Does anyone have any recommended classes of the Hand type?

And how exactly does the Duty Finder thing work? I qualified by level (Level 12 at this time), but the first two quests are locked).

Go to a crafting guild and unlock a crafting class.
Equip the crafting class.
Select a dye from the inventory.
Choose "dye".

I dyed my armor this morning without having any crafting classes unlocked. I just hit sub commands on each piece of armor and the option to dye was there. After doing the quest of course.

I just tried the beta but the game looked dated and it took me forever to even be allowed to control my character. I uninstalled the game after the first tutorial. It's just terrible and I don't think I'd even play it if it was free-to-play.

Is Coerthas slated to be a region, much like La Noscea, Thanalan, and The Black Shroud are regions that compromise multiple zones that feel very different? I'm hopeful that is the case, and not just one level 50 zone.

I'm actually slightly concerned that the game is going to lack for level 50 content at launch... lots of great progress shown with the game so far but I'm worried it'll fall apart at some point where it just feels unfinished, as is the case with many MMO launches (or in this case, re-launches).

Computer, what kind of, uh, computer are you running? Or did you try on PS3? Because for all the flaws one might point out for XIV, "looked dated" seems like a hard one to justify. On the highest settings I've found myself floored by the game visually multiple times and think it's quite the achievement.

I played the game on PC with graphics on High. It looked even worse than Guild Wars 2.

Coerthas and Mor Dhona will have several zones each.

There is plenty of endgame planned for launch. Several raids, Primals, Crystal Tower, Bahamut's Labyrinth and PvP.

Coerthas and Mor Dhona are going to be 40-50 regions, like La Noscea and etc. In 1.0 Coerthas was HUGE and much of it was unoccupied by even monsters. I'm sure that the zone will be condensed but there will be plenty of cool areas.

In response to your end game comment, Yoshida has said that anything that was in 1.0 will be in ARR end game wise. So Hard Mode Primal Fights, Level 50 Dungeons, and Grand Company questline fights will still be in game ready to go.. Not to mention the quest for Relic, which is a pretty momentous task. Not nearly as intense as FFXI, but more intense than most questlines for one specific piece of gear. After that, Alliance Raids open up, and even if those aren't in game at launch, for someone without Relic you will have plenty to do before you run out of stuff.

Anyone else think the PS3 has frame-rate issues? Especially in crowded cities or during Fates. Has to be running at sub-30 fps most of the time. Hope they improve it for release.

There was something quirky about playing with a controller that made the game fun, but now that I tried out mouse/kb it just feels like any other mmo lol. But I don't think I can tank or heal with the controller..leaving only dps.

You're kidding right?

Edit: Its easy to tank with the controller, just make lots of dpad use for multiple enemies. Speaking of tanking, whats the preference for shields, block rate or block strength?

The pc screenshots people post here are pretty effing ridiculous. Insanely good looking game.

PS3 has framerate issues? Never noticed.

Anyway, just did the 26->29 jump, will do Haukke Manor tonight and stop playing (or maybe reach lv.30),.Already invested too much time on something that will be wiped :P

My impression with the LNC is that he is a mid-late game payoff.
With the faster sweep and a full combo now, he finally looks useful, since you can stun most big casts and deal some (finally) severe damage.

There's no DRG in the beta right?
Overall I'm having fun, duty finder was helpful with the guildhests I hadn't done, but I think they could add a teleportation fee, the way it is it ends up feeling really separate.

I think the game has SSAA support if you force it with your graphics company's utility, but no native MSAA. That will come whenever the game gets the dx11 update.

It had built in FXAA in the benchmark but the beta client broke that. You can force SSAA at a huge performance cost. The game will never support proper traditional MSAA because of the deferred rendering engine it uses.

Sounds like you gave it a fair shot.

I am not gonna lie, the aliasing in this game is pretty much my biggest gripe at this point. Even with nvidia inspector forced fxaa, some scenes are just one big jaggy mess. It find it to be very distracting and in this day and age games should come with proper AA solutions. I haven't played a pc game with worse aliasing problems in years.

On another note I played for 10 hours today and boy did time fly by. I guess thats a good thing.

Just did my first dungeons and they were pretty ok. Though it's always funny when the group sees the big boss and the awkward stare down happens of "who's going to go in first." My group even looked at me to go in first... I'm a conjurer, lol.

Did they add the feature to add people automatically to a dungeon in the latest update or was it always like that? I could have sworn I couldn't get into a guildhest or dungeon before because I didn't have party members to go in with.

How do I start doing guildhests? I can't do any on the duty finder, am I missing a quest or something?

(I wish they were still called behests...)

Unlock the ability to do Leve quest during the course of the story missions, then do the initial Leve offered by an NPC in one of the camps (quest hub) and once you complete that first Leve from that NPC, he'll inform you about the Battle Warden that offers Guildhest.

so I can do duty finder on guildhests but I can't doing dungeons because of a prerequisites can someone tell me what the prerequisites is for dungeons

Do the story missions, that'll give you access to the first three (Sastasha, Tam-Tara and Copperbell). Then, during the course of the story missions (Or you can do this separately) go to Vesper Bay and enter the Tavern named: "The Waking Sands". Once in there, there should be a door leading to a hallway, take the left door. There will be an NPC in there offering the quest "Hallo Halatali".

The remaining 3 instances (Haukke Manor, Brayflox's Longstop, and Toto-rak) just require going to the entrances and talking to the NPC in front of them. Open up the map and look at the drop down menu under each area, you should be able to pin point where each instance is from there.

Been playing for about 2 hrs so far. It's not bad. Really don't like the map at all though. Also, I'm about 3/4 to lvl 4 and have done every quest I've come across now cannot find any news ones. All are above my lvl. Anyone else experienced this?

I do not think FXAA is working correctly with the current build of the game. The only way I got any sort of AA working was using SSGAA. The penalty is huge though, I think my performance must have decreased by about 25%-40%.

Yeah, FXAA is broken right now. It works great in the benchmark!

Gahhh. Just want that to happen already so I can jump back in. :(

Same here. I've pretty much done everything I wanted to in phase 3. Got a good picture of gathering/crafting professions. Trialed the early dungeons. Got to see a glimpse of the story. At level 23 I can say I've "played" the beta enough to feel safe pre-ordering.

Gonna shelve this until phase 4. It's been a pleasure, all.

Which story missions are they? I kinda got completely lost in story missions to do once I visited all three cities? (Started as an archer)

So, am I a bit lost. I seem to have forgot how to use the souls to switch into job classes or do you have to redo a quest to use them? Or are they not allowed in the beta?

And is anyone on that can give me a pearl to the linkshell on Sargatanas?

I'd heard that games which use deferred rendering can't use MSAA, but other games, like Shogun 2, included MSAA support once dx11 patches were released. I'd heard that "proper" AA was likewise coming for XIV after a dx11 update, but it's possible I've heard incorrectly.

The fuck is this?

Why does this game look awful?

SweetFX's FXAA is working with this game. I toggled it on and off by editing the settings file and its definitely working. Not my favorite solution but its better than nothing.

^ turn up your shadow resolution if you can.

The quest you're looking for is "It's Probably Pirates". Just click on your journal (The "!" icon on your screen between "Character" and "Duty Finder".) and click: Current > Main Scenario Quests. That'll give you a clear look on where you left off.

If you did them back in 1.x on your legacy character, no need to redo them. Just look on your "Character" screen at the bottom right panel, you can switch crystals from that space. You might have to go through your inventory first and manually put them in your Armory Chest first to use them.

So, a question for any Legacy types.

I've been crafting. I'm guessing that the different colors of gear represent different qualities, ala WoW, but all the stuff I can make is always grey.

Do you get to make higher quality stuff, or am I mistaken in the gear colors thing? I have pink stuff and green stuff on my Pugilist, and I've seen relic stuff blue.
