Read the Tales from Year Zero prequel comic.

Yeah, it really looks like the first act of the movie will be the revival of the Jaeger program.

Give this a read if you're really hyped for the film. The film picks up where this ends and it provides a nice back story.
Is there only one issue of this?

This really needs to encourage someone to push the true Evangelion movie forward. Mind fucks and mentally ill kids included.

To me it is the opposite. I love them, and I love to see the sets and stage directions. Although I am saving this one for after I watch the movie.

well i know the behind the scenes blu ray will be glorious! after seeing the cockpit thing i felt like i was in a robot already lol.

I don't know why, but I'm all of a sudden hyped for this movie.

The same thing happened to me with Prometheus, but dear God, I hope it's better than space vagina.

I'm with you.

The thing is that Ridley Scott, despite masterpiece Alien, had an iffy record, Del Toro on the other hand? he's flawless.

This statement would imply that you've outgrown any desire to see giant monsters fighting giant robots, which is obviously not possible.

Oh I haven't... but 10 year old me can play with the toys in public without getting awkward stares.

Also I was super into Godzilla movies as a kid. I watched a ton of the Japanese films with their terribad dubs. YEAH I LIKED THE 98 GODZILLA MOVIE AS A KID WHO WANTS TO FIGHT

Well it's not like as a kid you would go, "The CG was subpar and the plot really lost its focus on the central characters." It's a monster movie, how could you NOT like it as a kid.

Tales from year zero ordered. Don't think I've ever read a comic book before, I do own the couple of firefly ones though.

I'm probably going to buy a 6 inch Gipsy Danger action figure; I just like how symmetrical and sleek that design is.

Too bad there's no Cherno Alpha yet.

And too bad I can't cough up the dough for the 18 inch.

Which will bomb harder, this or Lone Ranger? I think PR has much better world-wide prospects.

Lone Ranger is already on it's way to bombaville. which is sad since it's probably the most surprising blockbuster of the year for me. really fun adventure flick. full of leone, ford and fucking dead man references.

This will be a bigger success. But it won't be THAT big. It doesn't have that transformers marketing/hype.

but if it is a success then the sequel will be huge.

Pacific Rim HeroClix! Anyone else want these? I have a NECA Gipsy Danger on the way but these look nice too :3

Wow, so I have two of my friends coming with me to see PR on the 12th and when I went to talk to a third about it, he was at first like "what's that?" So once I showed him the IMDb PR page on my iPhone, he almost laughed me out of the restaurant we were in and mentioned "that's that movie where Godzilla meets Transformers, nah I'll pass." So after a good 15 minute talk with him about it, he's leaning more towards canceling the apocalypse with us next week! Honestly I'm a little concerned that despite the recent trailer, I think the damage may already been done about the general public's perception of the movie. And it seems like the only way that can be undone it through word of mouth. Spread the word GAF!

Movie opens on the 2nd of August here.
Taking my staff to go watch it on that morning.

Excited as hell.

Boss of the year!

I....I don't understand.

Robots are lame now?

I've had similar scenarios with films. People know I have a good record though... if I'm willing to spend my time trying to convince you to see a film, it's probably worth your time. He'll see in the end!

A friend of mine who willingly went to see Wrath of the Titans and Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter said Pacific Rim looked terrible. I was seething.

I really don't believe that this will be a bomb the likes of WHD and TLR the past two weeks. I just can't see 3 action movies in a row bombing in 3 consecutive weeks. The buzz has picked up, I think this will do surprisingly well. Maybe not STiD good, but good.

I think there's this general perception that if it has robots and it isn't the brand "Transformers" then it isn't worth your time.

Some of your friends sound like they need a punch to the gut.

After he laughed at me in the restaurant, I briefly considered it.

A friend of mine who willingly went to see Wrath of the Titans and Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter said Pacific Rim looked terrible. I was seething.

Wow, I would've been seething as well! You may just have to bite the bullet and force him to come with you by purchasing his ticket for him! And then he can pay ya back later.

I have heard that the film has a Marvel esque post credits scene. Has anyone else heard this?

Hopefully we'll hear sooner rather than later if it's actually worth hanging around for.

I've heard this as well. I think Sent saw the movie and confirmed it if I'm not mistaken.

Yeah, I can see that. That kind of mainstream appeal is very difficult to hit or replicate. Not that I think this movie is trying to do that -at least not blatantly or cheaply- but I can understand how it seems that way to some. General movie going audiences will see all sorts of garbage, but are also real finicky about what they go to see en-masse. It's a weird thing.

I think this will do great internationally, and frankly, I'm just super glad this got made and by one of my favorite directors no less.
