Any tips on beating the "Duty, Honor, Country" quest?

I have a level 17 Pugilist and can't for the life of me defeat the friggin gargoyle.

I have a level 17 Pugilist and can't for the life of me defeat the friggin gargoyle.
Pull the gargoyle away fromt the mage so you don't hit by the mage's magic and have antidotes on hand to cure poison.

Overall, I liked the dungeon and had fun with it. :)

Bring potions and antidote, after he poisons you use the antidote then go all out, if he poisons you again you're going to die. Don't attack the mage
 
Man, they should really tone down the equipment rewards for the quests, crafting is actually fun (unlike XI), but at low level selling items is worthless.
 
It's nice, not for me, but I'm also still waiting to be able to scale UI stuff.

I like mine better though. Gotta make the minimap bigger, and likely when I can scale the actionbars down more, get a second chat in there.

Yeah I like aspects of both tbh. For example one thing I like about yours, having your stats closer to your character is more important than actions you'll eventually commit to muscle memory. And putting lesser needed HUD things like XP TNL neatly to one side.

But yes, now I know you can do a dual chat, for me there's no going back xD A scalable mini-map would be very useful indeed.
 
I'm sitting here weaving my ass off. This is probably the oddest thing I've done in a game. XD

I've been doing a shit load of carpentry! I just can't bring myself to invest too heavily in a fighter/mage class when I know it's going to get wiped and I'll have to start again in a few weeks time.
 
Heavy Thrust isn't linked to Impulse anymore. Also, please don't link aoe to non aoe, doom spike is fine unlinked.

I didn't say they linked, just that even witout being part of a combo link they are useful in your rotation at lower levels.

Also I neither didn't say they need to link Doom Spike to non-aoe skills, just that there's no reason to leave them out (like Feint) of the combo tree.
 
I am at level 24 with my Thaumaturge and am loving this game. I joined a Ul'Dah's Grand Company and bought all the first set of gear. I just finished Holitali's dungeon.

I have some questions if anyone can answer them though.

Is there any good tricks with using the Thaumaturge? I've done alright but not sure what I could do better with my skills.

How do you use a Limit Break? I was in a dungeon and my party wanted me to use it but it wouldn't let me. The LB was lit up and I had it set to my hot bar but it wouldn't do anything.

How can you get a chocobo to attack enemies?

Is there any Hand and Land classes that are better than the others? I am planning on going as either a Thaumaturge, Conjurer, or Arcanist in the main game. I was thinking either a weaver, gold smith, or miner but I'm not sure if any are more beneficial than the other.

After you press the LB as a thm/blm you have to aim where it goes on the ground
 
This game has been frustrating me a bit. When I go to purchase new gear I can't tell how much the item is. I can see how much it sells for however. I'd like to know how much more gil I need to get the item I want.

Also, what is the fastest way of accumulating money?

Sorry I misunderstood your post. I agree with feint, Just don't want them to link Doomspike to another single hit thing like ring of thorns is. Maybe those two would work together in a rotating combo though.
 
Configured it like this in the end. Probably seems a bit busy to some down the bottom. but I prefer it being taken up there than elsewhere. Will probably end up changing it anyway after something about it annoys me xD


EDIT - Yup, already adjusted the target bar to go more central above the bottom hotbars.. could get really OCD with this stuff..
 
Been playing this for the past few hours. I'm only a lvl. 5 Thaumaturge so I'm sure I barely scratched the surface. But so far its really fun.

Is switching classes really as easy as equipping a new weapon?

Not really, you have to apply to the correspondent guild for each class, once done, yes is as easy. You can do that at lvl 10.
 
so whats the best way to use MRD as a tank? im level 15 and the only skills i see that generate hate/enmity are skull sunder and overpower. im not seeing any skills that are specific tank hate generators.

Am I locked into one job? If I go dragoon, can I also change into a different job?
Can bard be a dps class? It seems so support, with lowering damage to replen mp and whatnot.

Enjoying the beta, I'm levelling every class lol

Once you hit a certain point in your class quests you can bounce around to anything you'd like. Also, it seems like bard is a dps class. Nothing like FFXI bard. :(

MRD is an attack tank.

I usually start the fight with Overpowerx2 or Tomahawk and then Overpowerx2. At that point i have enough enmity to have all the enemies on me. Heavy Swing + Skull Sunder/Main also do a good job. Sometime i mix Fracture/Bloodbath in.

You may want to get flash from Gladiator, but personality I don't use it that much, Overpower serves me fine.
 
I'm worried about character creation, it's very limited and a lot of stuff seems tied to certain faces. It's unaccaptable, imo.
They talk about memory constrains etc. I certainly don't hope the ps3 is limiting the character creation, because that will make me uncertain on what we can expect from future things.

Some more hairstyles are needed imo. There are only 2 that every male picks.

Is there any way to turn off the targeting going back to the enemy that last hit you? It's hard tanking when I switch a target to smack but the other enemy hitting me gets retargeted.

Not sure I understand what you mean. Basically in the second guildhest with the big knight in the center and spawning skellies, I quickly try to tag a skelly with a move but if the big knight hits me my targeting switches back to him. Stahp dat game.

Oh sorry, I'm going to assume so because you can switch classes, so why not be able to switch jobs as you unlock them? That's the impression I have so far anyway.

We had a naked party on Ultros this weekend! We began our nude conquest in Limsa Lominsa and eventually landed at the new GAF headquarters in Costa Del Sol for a few drinks and some fun in the sun.
Needs more Galka. (I refuse to call them Roedgyn)
