Pacific Rim |OT| Apocalypse Never

I don't know if it's true or not, that was the reason one guy gave me when I asked about it to confirm the limited showing. At least it gave me a good reason to watch it in Imax as there's no imax theatre near me.

You guys sure its not getting a wide release everywhere? Here in america a lot of theaters don't put up their listings until 3 or 4 days in advance, aside from opening night showings.

I was going to pass on this. Then my 5 year old saw the trailers and flipped out. Now that I know more about it, excited to see it.

Just looked up what 4DX was, holy fucking shit that sounds insane! 200 theaters here in america will have it soon eh......

I saw Prometheus in 4DX and Iron Man 3. It made the first one fun (not the movie, the experience) and the later one even more fun.

I feel 4DX was made for Pacific Rim though (it was actually made for Avatar)

Wrong thread.

EDIT: Thought this was the MLB thread.

Batter up!

If a film is good, it'll catch on and people will go see it. I've seen it happen plenty of times.

Also what the fuck to the people going "Ehh those water effects look a little off with the shadows and the particles, I've seen a lot in my day in case you didn't know. Not sure if I want to see this."
If you read my post, I never once mentioned the water looking "off" at all. It was certain shots of one of the mechs in the background and the frontal shot with the helicopters.

But Xia helped rectify a bit and of course I'm going to give more than the benefit of a doubt since this looks like a great movie. I never once meant to insult anyone who worked in this movie (didn't know there were people here who did) and if I did, I apologize.

OK somebody needs to explain to me the radical religious devotion to this movie, to the point that fans are screeching in the ear of anyone who criticizes one frame of it. Is this that anime cult thing, where fans get SO INCREDIBLY into it that they're deeply emotionally invested in its success? Marrying pillows with characters on them and shit?

This is bizarre. It's not just GAF, it's everywhere. Is it because this movie appeals to younger kids, so you have a lot of 13 year-olds crying about people being mean to it? Is it just because school is out and so there are more kids around than normal?

You must be loads of fun at parties.

So many people trying to drag this movie down, man. It's a conspiracy I tell ya!

I still need to buy tickets for this, I keep putting it off.

Geez, I was obviously exaggerating. I felt that making a silly post out of my concern would hopefully get to the point faster. Don't have to go and be a complete asshole about it.

And I guess since you're taking things so seriously, no, I'm not 13, I don't any body pillows let alone character ones, I've been out of school for a couple years now, and I'm not even remotely "emotionally invested" in any film that I know of.

edit: Also, in case you're curious, this is how to converse and not be an asshole:

And in response to this: Nah, you didn't insult anyone. I was just being silly because it seemed like a lot of people were taking that screenshot reeaaaallllyy seriously. To be honest I'm not even that familiar with the innards of CGI stuff, I just don't want something that seems really trivial to put people off the film. It needs all the help it can get :(

So the Titanic easily broke in half yet a tanker can be swung around and stay in one piece? Ok...

My mom thought it was ridiculous Elmer Fudd could shoot Daffy and Daffy would just live.

Same shit for like Wily E. Coyote and what have you.

But, I'm sure you're not my mom, right?

It's probably one of the few original, sci-fi action movies that's not a reboot/remake. It's from Del Toro, who has a good history (Hellboy is one of my top superhero movies of all time) and it just looks like an "incredibly airy and light feel", in contrast to the "super-brooding, super-dark, cynical summer movie" as said by Del Toro himself.

Also, I believe one of our fellow GAFfers (Xia) worked a bit on the film but correct me if I'm wrong on this.

Honestly, the movie could be hit or miss even with people on GAF. I remember Prometheus being hyped to high levels here then people being let down (I was one of the few here who actually liked Prometheus, however) once it came out. But the amount of positive attention it's getting here is understandable. It's also getting favorable reviews from some in Hollywood.

Looks like pacific rim is getting a limited release in the UK and it's gonna go off cinemas by the end of July.

So check to see if your cinema has the movie showing as I've booked tickets to Odeon Imax in London already.

Might wanna warn UK people in the OP about this as well.

I'm calling bullshit on this, there's not a chance in hell that there's not one cinema in Belfast showing this film.

Gonna see this with some friends Thursday at midnight in IMAX, way too excited for this.

Hopefully I can find a nice fat blunt before we head in...

Love that Cherno print. Though wish it was the best Jaeger instead, Striker Eureka. I would buy that in a heart beat if it was.

I like you.

By the way, I bought myself a navy blue Gipsy Danger baseball cap. I hope this movie's general reception is good, otherwise I'll garner strange looks wearing it in public >_>

This is rich coming from a writer at Cracked.com where everything is blown out of proportion with some lazy list articles where negativity reigns supreme. Apparently, can't get excited for a robots vs monster movie without being insulted on age and (ironically) maturity.

I think you're exaggerating things. Sure, those fans exist and many threads are plagued with them, but I don't see that as heavily with this movie. If anything most of us are just hoping it's good (and if it is, we want it to succeed), not ripping people apart for not liking it.

Anyways, waiting for those reactions from Dookkake.

Updated Tracking

rs pac rim mid 40s grown ups 2 mid 30s before you get excited rs has been saying low 50s for weeks on pacific rim {nm}

Take it with a heavy grain of salt, tracking is like political polls. A very imprecise science that can be skewed easily. Hopefully it is a sign of good things though.

The floodgates open tomorrow morning gentleman!

Wow, actually made the main robot look awesome
Gipsy Danger always looked awesome.

Still sad that Cherno Alpha wasn't the main bot.

Since this is David "Write the same traffic-generating comment-bait article 5 times in a row" Wong, I'm going to guess trolling. Admirable attempt, 8 out of 10.

It looks like trailers for Pacific Rim are being advertised heavily on FOX Animation Domination tonight.

Plus, just a friendly reminder that for those who want the free poster to attend the first IMAX showing at their local IMAX theater - which (I assume for some) is on the evening of July 11th. I'm just pointing this out in case people are accidentally booking their premiere tickets on the 12th. For some reason the Pacific Rim IMAX website is just advertising on July 12th, but their not really highlighting July 11th.
