Remembering Ryan Davis, 1979 - 2013

Didn't watch the Bombcast/visit GiantBomb, but 34 is far too young. And he just got married? Damn that's some cruel shit right there. My condolences to all involved.

Are you saying Jeff shouldn't "live on"?

Fuck off, man.

I think some people just aren't in touch with reality it seems. I didn't think there were people that would honestly say some of the things that they've said after reading that someone has passed. It's pretty disgusting.

I still can't believe I first read this hours ago and I still can't shake it off.

Pretty great:

Ryan Davis, always cracking wise.

He never knew me, and I not him - but did I ever love his contribution to the GBC.

Whatever comes out of this from a podcasting perspective - it will never be the same.

If you watch the Michael Jordan Encyclopedia Bombastica, you can see Patrick break down at the end. I thought it was just for dramatic effect at the time, but it looks like he just couldn't handle it anymore...

That ending makes sense now. Very sad to watch.

Wait, he died on July 3? Did the guys know during the freedom stream? Oh my god.
If they did they held it together like real professionals.

I'm starting to think they didn't find out till after because Ryan did tweet on the third.

Man. This is sad. I feel awful for his wife:( The Gal Gun cackle, the messing with Will Smith, with the plastic guitar and "kinda" in a band... So many good moments. I may never look at GB the same but I will cherish all the moments Ryan brought us. Rider meet horse, horse meet rider.

I am truly sad hearing that Ryan Davis has passed away. The guy was such a unique voice for the industry, and the entertainment, insight and joy he brought to so many of us will be irreplaceable. Like many of you, I'm such a big fan of Giant Bomb and how they connect with the community, and this news just stings in a really painful way, even for those of us who only knew him as outsiders.

I'll be honest, though. In chatting with my friends over the last couple of years, I had openly worried about the health of their staff members. I actually feared (and depressingly, predicted) this exact scenario -- involving Ryan -- and i knew that it would devastating for the guys and gals who make that site what it is as well as the community. This seems to be happening now. I don't say this to make light or trivialize. I say it out of love for the people who run that site and the respect I have for all of them. I wish I would've been wrong.

Big Respect, Ryan. I'll truly miss you and your unique presence. Much love to his family and friends in this very, very difficult time.

WHAT THE FUCK

Jesus fuck this guy was amazing, he was my favorite GB crew member. I can't believe this.

Hard to believe this is true.. Hard to even imagine how many hours I've spent listening to and watching his work.

Definitely will be missed.

Very sad to hear. GameSpot in old days was one of the reasons (1up being the other) why I got into videogames. RIP Ryan Davis, you will be missed :(

I can't imagine how any of his friends or family, or his wife are feeling and have been feeling for the past few days.

But I've been sitting here for two hours now unable to focus on work. It must be visible on my face because multiple people have asked what's wrong. And it's a hard question to deal with.

I just heard about a death. No, it wasn't family, or a close relation. It was...this guy. He was a larger than life personality and brightened my day at least once a week. He often made a rough day at a job I don't like that much better by making me smile and laugh. No, not a comedian, not per se. He was just a funny guy you like to have around.

A friend died. And it's hard to deal with.

Sums up how I'm feeling too. Well said.

The man just got married, too. Got to be devastating for his wife (well, I guess widow now) and family.

RIP and condolences to all his family and friends.

You don't think it's too insensitive to speculate? Goddamn some of you people are fucking absurd.

I don't see why it's "insensitive" to speculate on the cause of death. I'm not sure some of you can even define the word "insensitive." Especially considering that people such as myself didn't know the guy, and had little personal emotional attachment to him--some people are simply curious. By most accounts, I'm sure it's a terrible tragedy for many people who were close to him.

I hear ya. I'm just sitting here unable to concentrate. None of my co workers play video games so it would be pointless to explain anything...

You are not discussing. You are saying, quite matter of factly, that the entire site will not go on, which is blatantly stupid. It has nothing to do with appropriateness, it is just completely nonsensical to think these guys will essentially quit their jobs and livelihoods because a friend and co-worker passed away.

Exactly. Sorry, but that's just stupidity. As many have mentioned already, it's a business and it's owned by an entity to which they are contractually obligated to continue to work on. This isn't some social club formed to talk about video games on their spare time. It's a company of which people are gainfully employed to do so.

Really really am just in shock from this news. My friend sent me a text this afternoon while I was at work and my heart just sank. I can't imagine how his wife and the guys in the office feel.

The owner of Neogaf has straight up said it is, this is not up for discussion.

So sad, a friend told me about it and it at first didn't even register to me that it was Ryan from Giantbomb. I couldn't believe it.

When you have someone die on you and everyone starts speculating you will see why it's insensitive.

Just let it be. You will find out what happened soon enough.
