If you are going to buy the old CE, why not pay a bit more and get instead the new one? The artbook is more than worth the entry price, unless you don't care about that and just want the digital items.

Because the PC CE is sold out.

My character for this Closed Beta:

http://na.beta.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodestone/character/3937095/

I won't be keeping the name or appearance, and will be rerolling on Ultros come Phase 4, but it was nice while it lasted. Goodbye, Beatrix.

Is there a quick guide to what is and isn't macroable?

That's cool, didn't know you could see your character on the web.

Here's mine, haha http://na.beta.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodestone/character/4791785/
I have to say I'm pretty proud of how damn cool looking she is

Anyone know the purpose of name day and guardians? I just chose random and hope those things don't actually affect your character.

Awww, cute. :P

Wow, she looks awesome. :)

Speaking of gear, they really need to add more interesting stats to the artifact armors. The old versions of the gear had unique stats like "Enhances Regen effect." or something like that. As it is now, they are just the usual +VIT, +MND, +PIE, and +Determination. So boring.

What elitism are you talking about? I'm referring to the fact that WotG was released as an empty expansion, it took them months and months of updates to actually release content for it, not mentioning that it was already set on existing areas that just required a few cosmetic changes, and even with that it was underwhelming for over 6 or 9 months after its release.

It has nothing to do with elitism, it's was paying £20 for 2 new jobs and a new event in remodelled areas, that had nothing of interest for a long period of time, also the story almost didn't progress in that period of time.

But actually you were right, I'm an elitist with my wallet, if the product is not up to par, then I won't expose my wallet to that.

I;m not trying to be hostile, but I mentioned elitism because you just assumed I didn't know what a full expansion involved. Not once did I mention WotG or anything relating to FFXI in the post you quoted. There was simply no need for you to even bring it up.

From the instruction manual:

Select your character's birthday and patron deity.
* Starting elemental resistances will differ slightly depending on your patron deity.

Then again, I just used WotG as an example of how an expansion shouldn't be released. It had nothing to do with you mentioning or not, FFXI.

So I'm about to preorder and my id that I use for the beta doesn't work on the Square Enix main site log in. So I create a new account, same email and all, but now I'm a little scared to preorder. Will I be able to link my beta account to my main account so I don't lose my phase 4 character?

Just start your phase 4 character on the new account?

Regarding Grand Companies, will there be any benefits to being in the same one as your friends? iirc, in 1.x, you got bonus items or experience or something if you completed like.. Ifrit with everyone being in the same Grand Company. I actually don't really like that because I'd hate to be turned down an invite due to the GC I was in.

I'm only going to check in occasionally during the final test. I've done pretty much everything I wanted to do in this test and I'm ready for phase 4/open beta.

Nice! Here's my guy :)

Gonna be changing my name back to Omega Balmung once Phase 4 hits. For job wise I'm probably gonna stay with a tank character since most of the mmo's I play I usually roll as a healer >.<

Nah, no one is going to turn you down even if there's a small boost on exp for beating a low level fight. Besides I haven't heard anything about GC exclusive events, for example you can do GC leves from any GC npc, it doesn't have to be from your GC region. Same as earning seals from FATEs.

I think the differences will all come down to colours, not even stats in gear, since everything in ARR appears to have balanced stats on everything.

Do those EU Alienware keys work for US players? I have a friend I'd like to get a key for that missed out on the last offering.

If it doesn't then he can just make an EU SE account. It's not like it matters what account he's using during this week's test.

While that's true, I'm looking to get him access to phase IV so he can start with the rest of us, so that account would become the primary account and getting a EU account might be a pain for things like simply using a credit card.

Worth a shot though in any case.

Here's my guy so far.

Not really into that white look that's been going around lately, rather stick with a dark blue for now.

Dark blue looks sharp with that armor set. Dragoon-lite.

Ah well that's good to know. I definitely wouldn't really like GC exclusive events because I suspect some of my friends will be in different GCs from me. Are we going to be able to earn seals via FATEs in the full game? I had heard a while back that seals were only given out at FATEs to help beta testers, but I never got a confirmation.

Initially I used the white motiff to stand out a little, since people are a little more likely to send party invites to you, if you stand out. Now that everybody else is doing it though, well, it doesn't really help.

I'm probably going to try for a black motiff when things start back up. Not exactly hugely created, but not all that many colors work well for armor.

This key might only work for this phase, although phase 4 being open beta, then he wouldn't require a key on his other account.

Oh, I'm not too sure about that then. If they take that out, then the only way to earn seals would be through leves and handing in items, which is rather slow either way, so if they don't keep the seals on FATEs, they have to add something else.

Is there a option to keep the look or hide piece of armor? Say you like the look of the armor set you are wearing but something else with better stats come along but you want to keep the current look?

Personally, I hope we CAN do FATEs to get seals, but we'll see, I guess. A dev tracker comment recently said they were going to increase the amount of seals you got from leves and quests for your GC due to some of the feedback they received.

I think you can only hide your head armor - it's an option in one of the config menus.

Doesn't look like an option so far. Thankfully, only a few sets in this game look truly bad.

There's plans to add daily quests, so maybe they will be for GC and besides exp and whatnot, the main purpose will be to get seals, and if they are indeed dailies, then the amount you gain might be higher than just from a leve.

Hmm, Game has the game for £41. £46.94 after shipping to the USA. Will I still be able to use my USA Square-Enix account info? Will it be just like I am playing the US version? I want to get all of the digital bonuses too.

I wanted to join the GAF Free Company this past weekend, but was afraid my wife would freak if she saw I was in a Linkshell (bad past FFXI karma). :(

Anyway, here is a pic of my character. I wish I realized the beta ended when it did, would have left my character as PUG with decent looking gear.

I created and tried a few different races, but in the end went with Hyur since they can look pretty awesome in this game. Its a big step up for me, was a tarutaru in XI, lol.

I'm loving the game so far, feel free to add/follow/whatever me :)

Oh, I thought phase 3 was over.

I guess I'll get the last part of the set.

Your post reminded me- are there any people that plan to play on one of the GAF servers but don't plan to be in the FC? Personally I'd like to play on Ultros come launch, but I know the GAF FC is going to be gigantic and I'll likely be in a smaller FC with some people I know. At least via this thread (or whatever thread we end up in) I can still occasionally cross paths with many of you, but after being in the FC this weekend it's very... busy, and I felt like I was reading GAF while playing XIV (neither a good or a bad thing necessarily, just not what I'm looking for in-game).

Probably in the minority on that one though, and of course I want to see the GAF FC go on to be the #1 FC on Ultros and all that.

Given my situation, I will probably have to go the same route as you, though it did hurt a bit to see when someone with [GAF] passed me :(

I couldn't tell you. You might want to drop a quick word with SE's customer service and ask them if you can use the EU bonus items on your NA account.

I'm hoping the GAF FC folks will have a LS setup as well, because I'll definitely take a pearl if that's an option. If not, there's always this thread and I'm sure I'll be seeing most of you fairly often come retail.

I'm not sure I'll join GAF's community or not, but I want the option, and most the other people I know whom are playing the beta haven't decided where they're going to play yet.

There are certain things, the being apart of a community should help with. Materia binding for example, should work far better if you have plenty of friends in with different jobs. Since Blacksmiths and only attach to armor, armorers can only attach to armor, leatherworkers can attach to bracelets, and so on, to get yourself fully decked out in Materia you almost NEED a support group by default. The amount of man hours to level all all the crafting jobs single yourself, would simply be staggering.

But, like I said, I haven't decided whether I'll be joining any large groups or not. It depends on what the potential benefits are, and whether or not I actually hit it off with people in game.
