Character time? Yay.

http://na.beta.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodestone/character/4538339/

I usually play as a Mage, but after the awful final years of FFXI were BLM was treated like shit i wanted to try something different. Initially i went for CNJ because i heard healers were super-requests but boy, it's one boring class. So i picked a Tank.

Dunno whatever I'll stay on Sargatanas or move on Ragnarok for Phase 4. I'll have to see where my FFXI linkshell friends will be.

I'm not sure I'll join GAF's community or not, but I want the option, and most the other people I know whom are playing the beta haven't decided where they're going to play yet.

There are certain things, the being apart of a community should help with. Materia binding for example, should work far better if you have plenty of friends in with different jobs. Since Blacksmiths and only attach to armor, armorers can only attach to armor, leatherworkers can attach to bracelets, and so on, to get yourself fully decked out in Materia you almost NEED a support group by default. The amount of man hours to level all all the crafting jobs single yourself, would simply be staggering.

But, like I said, I haven't decided whether I'll be joining any large groups or not. It depends on what the potential benefits are, and whether or not I actually hit it off with people in game.

GAF's playing on Ultros right? I'm not sure I'll be playing that server either. Depends on where my friends end up.

Logged out in the best looking armor in the game.

Spent way too much time playing phase 3.

Here's my character.

While adorable in size, totally going to make a normal size character come the real game and probably change the name. Probably won't be an archer again, even though they are awesome just so I can experience starting in a new town.

Personally, I hope we CAN do FATEs to get seals, but we'll see, I guess. A dev tracker comment recently said they were going to increase the amount of seals you got from leves and quests for your GC due to some of the feedback they received.

I think you can only hide your head armor - it's an option in one of the config menus.

Haven't checked if it's the same in ARR but you were able to hide your weapon too in 1.0

Anyone here playing on Ragnarok (EU GAF)?

I am on Ragnarok, ebil is there as well. We were just talking in the last page about setting an unofficial GAF LS just for chat, but since in my current LS is looking on forming a FC and we don't have enough members for 24-man raids, then we've been looking (well since before the end of 1.0) for people to be dedicated on a single FC.

Hey I'm not sure if my times are compatible (Australian UTC+10:00) But I'm pretty I'm on Ragnarok and I'm very interested in finding a company that's level headed and getting stuff done (legacy player mainly went MRD but I managed to get my WHM up to 50 and grab the moogle wand just before servers went down) Ahh the memories.

Some choice quotes from that Player Feedback Status List that answers quite a few questions I and a few others had. Figured I'd share the more interesting ones:

Please add powerful monsters that can only be beaten by high level groups to the hunting log.

Will be Addressed at Launch: Up to a certain rank, players would be able to complete the hunting log at a resonable level. However in the higher ranks, powerful monsters are planned to be targets.

When leveling your second class, please make it possible to accept quests that you have already cleared.

Discussing to address in an update after launch: Implementation of daily quests, or quests that can be received multiple times, is being planned for an update after launch.

Please make it so FATE participants are automatically partied up so AoE spells can be used.

No Plans to Address: We will not be having an automatic party formation feature since this content has been made for people who want to play casually. We appreciate your understanding.

In regards to dungeon difficulty, would it be possible to have a normal and hard mode?

To be Addressed in an Update After Launch: We already have plans to implement multiple difficulties of the dungeons. It should be ready not too far off from the official release. Not only will you see changes in the monster's placement, we plan to make adjustments to the level design as well!

The field areas feel safe and without danger. Any plans to add huge roaming monsters?

Continuing to Discuss: We have plans to add aggressive monsters that are prowling around once you stray off the main path.

When compared to the hotbar, the cross hotbar takes up a lot of space on the screen, so please make it possible to freely resize the map and log window or have different size options.

Planning to address after Beta Phase 4: We are planning to make it so all widgets can be resized, including the cross hotbar. This adjustment will be made in time for launch.

Make it so treasure chests spawn in the field.

Continuing to Discuss: Not only will we implement treasure chests, you will be able to obtain items and achievements by searching the field. We'll do our best to implement this as soon as possible.

Aside from not getting any party interface support for FATE (Guess I'll stick to just targeting the tank as a healer), good stuff all around.

I'm looking for people to play with but I'm not an expert since this is my first mmo.

oooo i love the sound of this

Welp, Treasure Chests?
Welp. That's full RPG territory here.

what i was thinking of too
one of few things i really miss from offline rpg

With treasure chests and hidden items all they need for the full Final Fantasy experience is to add a card game and the ability to morph enemies into cards.

Also, one more that I see brought up quite a bit:
I would like other ways to obtain seals or else I'm afraid the FATEs will be even more packed.

Continuing to Address: You will be able to obtain seals not only by FATE, but also when you join a grand company and undertake grand company leves as well as certain quests. In Beta phase 3 a portion of this content will be introduced.

So seals from FATEs is here to stay it appears.

Regarding Grand Companies, will there be any benefits to being in the same one as your friends? iirc, in 1.x, you got bonus items or experience or something if you completed like.. Ifrit with everyone being in the same Grand Company. I actually don't really like that because I'd hate to be turned down an invite due to the GC I was in.

Now I'm not sure about this, but I may have read PvP is tied to Grand Companies, with the different GCs battling each other.

I'd like confirmation of this as well, so I can gauge with my friends if we need to be in the same GC to fight together, rather than against each other.

I wish they'd run the UI assets at 1080p... the texts are also huge in the chat log, shouldn't use that much memory =/

Oh yeah, that's true. Forgot about that option.

Yeah, all that sounds good except for no party interface for FATE. It really is a shame because I'd like to cast Protect on people I'm doing FATEs with as well as more easily heal people. It really annoys me that I cannot cast Protect on people outside my party. :( Giving random buffs to strangers as I pass by amuses me. lol

More good news! I just saw a thread recently that said something about them removing seals from FATEs, but if that Feedback Status List confirms it, I won't question it.

Does GAF on Sargatanas have a Free Company? Or will they at launch?

Oh yeah, I do recall something about PVP and Grand Companies. I'd prefer to be able to play WITH my friends, not against them. Of course, I also heard that the PVP in ARR was going to just be 1v1, so... not sure if it would matter. Maybe they will add stuff like 2v2 or 4v4 later?

Both of you PM your character's name to have them in hand, and come phase 4 I'll friendlist you and we can set up a LS. I'm always open to help with anything I can. And as far as the FC goes, we'll just see that in-game since my current LS is still seeing if making one and recruiting people or merging with another LS, since we're not more than 10-12.

I hope they have exploration in mind when they implement those field treasure chests. It'd be a nice incentive to just go exploring random areas you wouldn't normally go to and find a chest waiting for you at the end.

i wonder if they'll do it like FFXI's coffers/chests
rotation of programmed pop spots requiring keys, from mobs, to open

not sure if i prefer that or completely random pops

I do hope they make the zones more dangerous to get around beyond simply adding large monsters that'll aggro. I'm not expecting FFXI levels of hazardous, but the way it is currently is pretty disappointing especially combined with how easy it is to get anywhere and everywhere... getting somewhere in FFXI felt like an accomplishment (at least the first few times), and here it's like WoW, except probably even easier to get away if you run somewhere you're not supposed to.

Man so many people I've talked to about this game get so excited then get pissed when they find out its a pay to play game.

People are cheap and have been conditioned to think MMOs should be free. No thanks.

Nostalgia? FFXI was only "dangerous" the first time you played it and you didn't know what aggroed and what didn't. How would you change this for XIV? Or MMOs in general?

Just posting my characters. Lucent got to level 15 before I stopped. Knowing my character was gonna be wiped kept me from wanting to get in to deep. I hate the armor he has on there. I dunno why they kept armor that looks like that. Looks bad on pretty much anyone.

I made Emma just to try to make a cute Lalafell girl.

I'm undecided if I want to stay a Lalafell or go with a human.

At least for me it's definitely not nostalgia. Granted I haven't played XI since WotG, but I really felt as far as MMOs go XI's world was far more dangerous than certainly XIV, WoW, and any current MMO offering. Maybe some of the really old school MMOs offered harsher environments, but I really appreciated how if you weren't careful simply walking from one location to the next could mean you were dead. Many (most?) zones required the purchase of a map, and even with that map the mapping system wasn't very good and required a lot more effort than what you find today. Many things aggroed, and when they aggroed they had a good chance to kill the up and coming player.

I know from your posts that you played a lot of XI, so you at one point probably experienced the above, and I can't comment on what it was like to have a really well-geared or simply capped XI character, but I stand by my statement that XI was plenty dangerous and that I miss it in some ways (and can also see all the reasons why they'd want to change that in XIV too).

Yoshida regarding PVP:

First of all, we are going to introduce one part of the PVP we're planning to make, Coliseum. This is going to be 4 vs. 4 or 8 vs. 8. With this next beta phase, 4, we're going to test that out - so you'll be able to find out what happens when different classes or jobs fight against each other within FF14.

This Coliseum will be introduced with patch 2.0, straight away after launch. Six months after launch, we're planning to also introduce another PVP called Frontline. This is more like a RvR - Realm versus Realm. This uses whole zones - it's a large-scale PVP.

With this PVP system, there's going to be different character systems compared to the PVE version. If you win a battle in PVP, you'll earn points, and when you collect these points you can exchange for certain abilities or skills or equipment dedicated to the PVP system. As such, you can level up your character in a sense within the PVP system.
