Fighting Games Weekly | July 8-14 | All roads lead here

People are still complaining about Morrigan and not how dumb the game is in general?

And am I the only one who thinks not starting Injustice at 9 is a missed opportunity.

He refunded the donation money because Triforce got that last minute beech bailout. No happy ending I guess, just a footnote in the saga of EMP "management"

Not only that, Kotaku contacted him about this donation thing (possibly writing a 'positive' article about the FGC for once) but Jebailey was a bit upset that EMP is returning the donation money as he felt his efforts were for nothing. I think he posted a tweet that called out EMP and Triforce went ham because of this.

Most people know the game is dumb, it's that we don't care.

No, but Doom is the most played character in the game and there's ALWAYS awesome new tech. Most hype thing that happened at Curleh West this past weekend was Miniboss using missiles to OTG into lazers and sphere flame.

Morrigan meanwhile... SOUL FIST SOUL FIST SOUL FIST SOUL FIST.

That's more of a forgotten/never used thing than a new thing.

Why is high-res fottage so rare? Are nesica cabs usually incompatible with capture cards? HDCP thing perhaps?
Nope, just "because Japan".
They somehow fancy those 360p videos (probably has to do with how they enjoy browsing the web on their mobile phones).

That makes the complaints about Morrigan all the more sillier, though.

I don't see nearly as many complaints about the character these days, it's just that when she's winning, she's anti-hype. Plenty of people kill her nowadays, but then Chris makes a comeback with Vergil or Doom.

Anyone calling her broken or cheap or whatever are just not up-to-date or salty.

Evo doesn't truly start until someone comes into the thread and complains that Phoenix is broken.

If you missed Cosmo's sort of spur of the moment Melee education hour, you can find the archive here and it starts around 2 hours and 15 minutes into the video. He goes over a ton of things, it's like... 3 hours or so of him explaining certain mechanics, the basics, and even the Master Hand glitch.

Definitely recommend even if it doesn't cover everything.

Yeah I'm having trouble understanding why EMP coming through with the Evo money is a bad thing.
It comes off as a last minute opportunity for Triforce to save face. EMP players were panhandling the community for donations, and some were even straight up dismissing the prospect of going to EVO.

It's not surprising why Jebailey is upset. He put a lot of effort to help Dieminion, even when Dieminion was not being forthright about why he needed to ask for assistance.

I'll try...

I don't get it :(

Triforce got the money to send his players to Evo and the donations from the Dieminion thing are being refunded.

"Triforce is a PoS! He wasted money that should've been used to send his players to Evo!"

"Triforce got the money to send his players to Evo! He's a PoS!"

Obviously it would've been better if players didn't need to go as far as to do donation drives in the first place, but shit is dumb.

Yep. You have to wonder if Daigo has anything else up his sleeve...and if so how long it will last this time.

Biggest thing standing between Daigo and another EVO win seems to be a counterpick to Akuma. I am still wondering if he's keeping the wraps on a counter, but we'll see.

Late on this, but James Chen is right: NRS didn't and never has paid anything to Evo.

WB is another matter.
Not even sure why James would try to make a statement like that w/o backing it up when there is mounting evidence to the contrary.

These players were severely close to not attending EVO. I think that Triforce was hamstringing them and had they not put pressure on him by seeking donations, he wouldn't have sent them at all.

Man, it is really weird how people easily forget how bad of a manager Triforce is. It really wasn't long ago when he "suspended" his FG team which led to EMP players to seek new sponsors.

So I was thinking earlier today about the other "thing" with Jailhouse(sp?) trying to get to the Beach.

Why would VxG need his passport #?

(No, you do not need it to get plane tickets).

It's just a technical thing. NRS is a game developer. WB is a giant corporation. Which one do you think has the money? I know people treat NRS and WB as the same thing, but they are distinct entities, even if one owns the other.

Tom Cannon seemed pretty clear that EVO could not run Injustice without publisher assistance. Like James, I didn't sense anything nefarious when EVO announced Injustice.

LoL and how do you know this do tell.
Because they had to ask for donations in the first place, which means that the players had zero expectation of Triforce coming through.

At the time, it was just more of a funny "lolmoneyhat" thing- the game clearly deserves to be there. But having the lowest-turnout game get a stream all to itself on day 2? That's ridiculous.

So I guess he shouldn't have tried to get that money at all so it wouldn't be obvious that he was pressured into doing so? That would've been the right thing to do?

And yeah I guess just because I'm not on board this particular Triforce pile-on it must mean I don't still think Triforce is a shitty manager.

I don't know about Saint Marteen specifically, but each time I fly to Japan I have to provide my passport number to the airplane company.

That may be a special case for Japan. I've never had to provide a passport number for any flight to the Caribbean. Maybe St Maarten is different, or maybe they just wanted to check if he had a passport before spending the money on a ticket.

Is NRS even an entity or just a group of employees & assets within a WB division?

I get why being in another hall makes it difficult to put different games on the stream there. It'd be impossible to send players from one hall to the other to play a match on stream. It's hard enough sending matches to stream when it's in the same hall. Switching the stream address doesn't work because each stream is attached to a stage with a projector showing the matches to people in attendance.

That having been said, I don't know why Tekken or Persona couldn't be in the 2nd hall with MK & Injustice, especially since there are only 4 MK pool stations.

It's a subsidiary of Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment.

I don't know why you want to defend Triforce, but you don't have to look far to see how good teams, like Brokentier or EG, support their players. When's the last time they needed to set up their own WePay donation pages to go to tournaments?

I'm mostly sure you don't need to provide a passport number to flights to St. Maarten. I can double check, but we've never needed it for people my relatives have booked in their travel agency to anywhere in the Caribbean.

Granted, if he doesn't have a passport more than three weeks prior to the event, he's probably screwed anyways.

So it's his fault that the delay happened.

I personally don't care, but that's a dumb thing to say. Yes, it's his fault. Buck stops with the boss. Even when it's not really, it is his fault.

Y'all need to learn how to read. I'm not fucking defending that holy shit.

Nah, you can always get rush service in the three week window, and if you really screw up and live close enough, drive down to the State Department and renew in person.

After 9/11 it was a nightmare trying to renew passports, with applications taking forever, but that's largely a thing of the past.
