This is bad, while I'm glad Smash allowed for alot of money to be recolected for donation it would have been better to any other game would have taken it's place, I'll never understand NoA.

"Streaming brings attention & potential sales to Smash Bros, neither of which are part of our business strategy with the Wii U."

Jesus Christ Nintendo, what are you thinking? All that EVO exposure is too little to offset the lost sales for a decade old Gamecube title?

Clearly Sakurai attempting to whitewash the dirty non-casual SSB from history. But seriously, that's just poor form. What harm is streaming a +10 year old game doing to you Nintendo?

I'm actually incensed at this. I may bitch a lot about little things in general, but mostly I'm never actually angry or anything. But this, this is madness. It is a giant middle finger towards their biggest fans, you know, the few people who actually bought a Wii U or were at least considering it in the future.

I feel so bad for Smash fans. I really do. This is the kind of company you support, Nintendo fans.

Amazed that Skullgirls wasn't moved up to an official game status after all this, though.

Tweet Nintendo's accounts to show your feelings about this!

Smashboards needs to get on this especially, like right now. Times are dire. Perhaps Nintendo isn't aware of all the work Smashers put in to get their well deserved spot.

This poses an issue for shit like Apex, etc. in the future now that Nintendo is tightening it's grip on this stuff.

Why? Smash is still being run at the tournament.. just not streamed.

It maybe has something to do with the 'negative perception' that the 'fgc' has a lot of time and they don't want that kind of association?

Exactly what I was going to say. They don't want their family friendly IP to be perceived as a hardcore fighting game. Maybe they pulled the plug once they got wind of Shirtless Marvel.

As one of the hardest of hardcore Nintendo fans on this forum I will join that chorus. That's sheer lunacy. I don't know if this is coming from NOA legal, or if this is coming down from NCL.

Either way this is complete insanity. Incredibly disappointed right now.

Uh.

  • Smash won the charity drive, it's an honor to be presented
  • Smash, at the highest skill level, on the highest stage, should be something Nintendo supports publicly
  • Smash fans and supporters who cannot make it to EVO deserve better

Tragic victim of fan death
can anyone think of a slightly plausible reasoning for why nintendo might not want to allow this?

Money issue regarding streams and such. Either that or NoJ is seriously out of touch with how streaming is in the west.

Yeesh, this move just makes no sense. Not only is this free advertising, it'd be a prime opportunity to pimp out SSBU a little (like what KI is getting). Goddamn it, Nintendo.
