Speaking of Retainers, is there a meaningful difference in having two? You can deploy them to different cities, but aren't the Markets all linked together anyway?

Aside from expanded storage, what's the point of two, rather than a single retainer with double the storage capacity?

This has been a fairly standard mechanic in the MMO world for 9 years or so. It's to prevent cheesing through fights, prevents people from creating mob trains in the zone and the disruptions that causes, and let's you get away from mobs you didn't mean to aggro or can't actually take.

If you're looking for something more hardcore than that in the game world, ARR isn't likely your game.

That doesn't justify it. It's a goofy old mechanic to keep the programmers from actually making the AI intelligent at all. It's "not my kind of game" because it's stuck 5+ years in the past and trying to bone you for 13 dollars a month. I don't mean to sound so pessimistic, but this game needs to do better.

My fingers are x'ed for phase 4.

Are you sure the Armoire in beta isn't working?

Did they say they would change it for ARR? Because the original Armoire wasn't just a bank like in other games.

Patch 1.22 will introduce armoires—storage cabinets that can be used to store untradable gear and other similar items. Armoires will be placed in the inns rooms of each city-state, and players will be able to store and reclaim their prized possessions at their leisure. The following kinds of items will be made storable:

Job-exclusive gear
Seasonal event gear
Achievement reward gear
Bonus items (Garlond goggles, onion helm, Asuran armguards, Hermes' shoes)
* There are certain exceptions.

While armoires will be free to use, the following conditions apply:

Item condition must be 100%
Only one of a particular item can be stored.
Storing an item resets its spiritbond.

Armoires are shared across all three city-states; items stored at one location can be reclaimed at another.

Is something up with the registration? I got my beta code this morning and registered it, but when I go to log into the forums it tells me my User ID/Password is wrong. But I can log into my Square Enix account from the main page just fine. When I go to Services and Options, it says I have an account FFXIV account, but it also says "Code registration is currently unavailable."

I wanna play!

The time it takes from when you create the character till you are finally out of the city and can fight something indeed takes far to long. That's an issue I had with FFXI and the first version of FFXIV. It just took to long to get to the point where you could actually do something. Even then the process to do something take longer then it should or just feels slow. It's just really annoying in the end when one doesn't have a lot of time.

It's Final Fantasy what do you expect :S

If you don't have a lot of time you probably shouldn't be booting FF up >.>

Yeah, there's a lot of issues with that. Something about the forum wanting an e-mail or another screen name you need to register for.
From the intros do you run into the old guy and the elf girls later in the game?
Yeah, you run into the twins later.

Should I just wait?

As of right now, since quests are not repeatable, leveling a new class will essentially be done by grinding, fates, and dungeons, correct?

"As of right now?" Yes, and probably forever.

Levequests, FATEs, guildhests, hunting logs, and dungeons provide plenty of ways to get exp once you're done with all the one-time main/side quests.

I didn't mean it's a glitch or anything. It's just asking for a different name.

You can DL the client here if you don't wanna deal with it right away:

http://gdl.square-enix.com/ffxiv/download/beta/ffxivsetup.exe

I downloaded the client but it tells me the same thing as the forum page, user ID / pass is incorrect. I can log in here just fine: https://secure.square-enix.com/acco...t=account&ref=cis_na_login&svcgrp=Service_SEA

But when I try here: https://secure.square-enix.com/acco...t=account&ref=cis_na_login&svcgrp=Service_SEA it says wrong user id / pass.

wtf square

Maybe they need to put even more emphasis on Hunting Logs so people pay more attention. It's literally right there for you to guide each and every class's progression.

I have the same issue, i can only log into that one specific link.

When you log in, check what your User ID is, I was just using my email because I couldn't remember it. When I logged in the client using the ID it worked.

Do we have any idea what the questing will be like once we are out of the beta content? Is it just going to funnel everyone from the 3 cities into a linear path or are there going to be options regarding where you are going to quest at level 25 or 30 all the way to max. At least then you might be able to choose the other options on a different class if so. Doesn't help you level everything but I think that should be difficult by design.

Story quests will follow the same path regardless of your starting nation. But there will be GC quests that will be exclusive to that GC. There will also be sidequests in all areas that can be done by anyone meeting the level/class requirement.

Holy shit..

So I'm doing the Hunting Log in La Noscea (Where the Level 23 Coeurls are) and I'm in the middle of killing one of the Coeurl Pups when a big Coeurl named "Lone Coeurl" comes running out of nowhere. Just as I think hes coming for me, a Simurgh (he looks more like a dragon this time around instead of a giant bird from XI) swoops down and they start duking it out.

Took some shots just before Simurgh finished off the big Coeurl.

That looks awesome, Can't wait to see all the little things and secrets happening all around Eorzea, come phase 4, or even better, release.

Saddens me a bit that events like this will probably be missed a lot considering it happens soon as the FATE spawns. 90% of the time so far in the Beta, a FATE has only spawned on top of me twice maybe three times.

Hello,

So I joined a Grand company and I got my Storm Chocobo Issuance. It states that I need to take it to the GC stables.

Are they in the game yet cause I can not find anything.

Qualifying monsters already have a hunting symbol over their names. And killing one updates the system notes in the chatlog about your progress (1/9), so you don't even have to pull it up to check. =/

Same. I'm excited to see all the little touch-ups and maybe some extra content for the beginning levels. Not to mention everything past the beta's levels.

So is everyone pretty much decided on their race/class choice? Did any of you end up wanting to main a character you weren't expecting from when you first started the beta?

I'm a Lalafell currently in the beta, but might be a Hyur for phase 4. Loved bein a Taru in XI, but I don't think i can bring myself to be a Lala for the hours I plan on putting into this game. Can't put my finger on why though........ but i do love their jump animation.

Forgot my class: I enjoy using a polearm so I think I'll stay a LNC. The later abilities also sound fun to me. I wouldn't mind some slightly faster cooldowns though, as others have mentioned.

So is everyone pretty much decided on their race/class choice?

I was a Hume in FFXI and regretted not picking a taru. So in this game, I picked Lalafell. They aren't exactly the same as tarus, but close enough for me to like them. I'm tempted to change my race/sex when 1.0 characters get the option, but... I just dunno. I really do like my lalafell.

SE just sent me a beta key, but when I go to register under my account it says "The entered code has already been registered."

Anyone else run into this issue, anyone I can contact to fix this?

I was a Hume and regret not picking a Galka because I had no idea what I wanted to be and was afraid that a Galka would be a "bad" magic class. Roegadyns (sp?) look pretty cool thankfully,

I think I like La Noscea better than the Black Shroud, but I hate the city of Limsa itself.

Decisions, decisions...where should I start?

I was a Lala in 1.0 but didn't grow as attached to him as my Taru in XI. I played on my Lala and made a Male Miqo'te in this beta phase and really like the mancat. I'll probably go mancat when we can change race/looks though if I did decide to stay Lala I'll definitely change how he looks.

Also defo starting as Arcanist. I need me my Carby.

I am in the beta and played on my PC, but it's really low end. I am considering getting windows for my iMac and playing it on that. Does anyone know if a late 2012, 27" iMac (the low tier 27") can run on medium or high settings? I don't want to waste money on windows if it can't.

Thanks

Yea, I'm prolly taking that class as well. Two of my three favorite jobs in 11 were SMN and SCH, so it's nice to see them collected into the Arcanist and subsequent paths. Having a Fairy army as a Roegadyn will be amusing.

I'll be going the boring, but versatile, male Hyur for retail. Spent about an hour tweaking a design in phase 3 that I will likely carry over unless there are a ton more options available.

I went to the chocobo stables inside the city with the chocobo Issuance and was able to get my company chocobo

Registration woes here. Got my code, but when I go to enter it, it says the Code has already been used. Waiting on a chat rep now.:/

Does anyone have any advice for finishing Duty, Honor, Country as a Thaumaturge?

I can't for the life of me finish the second phase. It's nearly impossible at lvl 15 to take on the gargoyle dude. Am I missing something or do I just need to level up more?
