Why is such an awful country allowed to be on the UN security council? Countries with laws like this should not have any say in world affairs.

Hunting homossexuals is his mission, this is how he lure them...

Not sure if serious. It's the largest country in the world, the world's second largest arms exporter, has the world's largest stockpile of nuclear missiles, and has many allies in Asia, Eastern Europe and the Middle East.

What does this law have to do with the Security Council?

Fucking Russia going backwards day by day.

Thinking that creating mindless, xenophobic, hateful people makes a strong and successful nation. Bending over for their sleazy government.

Countries with laws like this shouldn't have a say in world affairs where human rights are involved, it's really that simple. They should be severely punished for this type of behavior.

Russia, parts of africa and the middle east need an enema to wash away all the filth of prejudice disguised as mandates of religion/culture.

And who will punish them? The handful of western, primarily European countries where gay marriage is legal? It's still illegal in many states in the US, many countries in Latin America, almost all of Africa, Middle East and Asia.

taking the orient express from moscow to beijing with a partner has been a dream of mine for a while :(

One day the dream may yet come true; progress is ever steady, just sometimes excruciatingly slow.

We will win this fight, though, like all the others. These mouthbreathing neolithic asstards will one day all die out and a more progressive group will fill their roles.

Last I checked you can't be arrested in the US for being gay. Bottom line is, Russia should not have a say in world affairs anymore. The country is a shithole.

Why are you defending Russia anyway. Do you support this shit?

Makes sense, If they don't feel that homosexuality is right then arresting openly gay people will help secure that.

Understandable decision (from their perspective).

Oh gosh, my favorite authoritarians are the ones who care.

Who is defending Russia? How old are you? I took offense with your dumb suggestion that Russia not be allowed on the UN security council because of a domestic law they passed in their country. Can the rest of the world say the US shouldn't have a say in world affairs since they don't really care about sovereignty and invade countries seemingly at will or spy on them?

Who are you to say that, is what I implied. Then again anyone who decries an entire country and populace as as shithole because of the policies of the government is someone incapable of civil discourse.

I live in Canada we've had legal same sex marriage for almost a decade nationwide. Can I day the US is a shithole because it's behind us in passing laws to deal with this issue?

Yes the law is draconian, but there are countries in the world where homosexuality is punishable by death.

My point is, whether you like it or not, Russia is a world power, especially in terms of military and security, this issue has nothing to do with that.

And no I'm not defending Russia at all. It's a horrendous law, passed by an increasingly authoritarian government.

I don't understand the rationale of legislation like this. Was the downfall to the Mongols not a low enough low point?

Because morality law was a smashing success for the US and Caesar Augustus.

You sure do like let people know how you are against homosexuality without actually coming out and saying it.

Any country where you can be arrested for being gay isn't what I would call a good place to live. If the truth means I'm not being civil in your eyes, then whatever.

The people in power in Russia need to be dealt with. This isn't the only bad thing they've done in recent times.

Trying to think of a reason why visiting Russia would have been a good thing... not really coming up with anything.

Openly gay?

Well, if it's directed towards the type of people who are half naked, gyrating on everything, then fair enough. Regardless of sexual orientation, I think that's inappropriate.

If it's about people being gay, that's just wrong. Something like hand-holding shouldn't be discouraged between gay couples.

Why are you defending Russia anyway. Do you support this shit?

I do. I think this law is against people who come to Russia and do various protests and parades. It is highly unlikely that someone is going to be arrested for hand-holding or having rainbow stickers. I support this law if it means that less people are coming to mess around with protests and demonstrations. If, on the other hand, there will be stories about people getting arrested for minor things, then I would withdraw my support.

RUSSIA! What the hell is your deal, I said
RUSSIA! You really need to chill, I said
RUSSIA! This thing needs an appeal
There's no need for this. It's crazy.

So, will they ban Heavy Metal from Russia? Most of the "leather and chains" clothes associated with modern rock come from the gay SM fashion.

Sickening.

You probably supported your government when Pussy Riot was arrested too, didn't you? Protesting shouldn't be fucking illegal. Damn. This really only reinforces me beliefs.

Arresting gay people won't stop people from being gay, because all the evidence suggests that sexuality isn't like flipping a light switch where you can instantly go from gay to straight at a moments notice.

to be fair, what's wrong with him being against homosexuality?

To be fair, what's wrong with being racist?

You sound extremely foolish. If being gay isn't a choice (and it isn't as most evidence suggests) than being against homosexuality is no different than having an aversion to a race.

Yeah if only that could be reflected under a public indecency law that would equally affect heterosexual and homosexual sex acts being performed in public. Please, tell me why they would need to specify homosexuality?

This is why I have wondered if the LGBT community is ready to take on the rest of the world after the focus of the US tapers off.
