Thank you, GAF! I wouldn't have known otherwise:

Went to the 7pm showing at a Regal tonight. I agree with what many have already said. Great, fun movie, and to the point. I grew up loving and watching stuff like Mazinger Z and Grendizer, and this movie is just like a love letter to them. Guillermo Del Toro can take all my monies!!!!

When I went I asked about the poster to several employees who had no idea, and just before I gave up, one of them got me the manager; who proceeded to bring a stack of the posters out of an office for PR viewers.

Saw this in RPX this evening. They didn't have any posters at my regal though. :( The 3D was actually pretty good. Really put you into the movie. I can't knock the grin off my face. Such a fun, fun movie. Wonderful cinematography, a great main theme and some incredible fight sequences. There are some some rather funny human characters that don't quite cross over into slapstick but worked. Don't miss this movie it is an absolute blast.

Standing in line for IMAX showing at Oklahoma City and this is the longest fucking line I've ever stood I'm for a movie. It's wrapping through the whole theater lol. Gotta be a sellout, so good news in OKC!

I don't wanna sound like a broken record... but if one of you lucky viewers can snag an extra full-size Yoji Shinkawa poster, I'd gladly pay thirty bucks plus shipping and handling for one of those. We're not getting those in Canada apparently.

My buddy dragged to this movie I knew absolutely nothing about. I was pretty happy with experience. I even managed to snag some neat posters along with it (for friends of course).

Ok guys moment of truth....im heading to the theatres fuck it i wasn't planning on it but i must watch it now....20 minutes ill ask for the posters

Same. Could someone keep an eye out for me as well?

Watch out for one for my buddy Chrono as well.

Saw it at 7 pm. Excellent action/special effects, everything else was mediocre to bad (I did enjoy Charlie Day and Ron Pearlman though). I didn't come for deep characters or a good plot though, so I left satisfied.

I think we got stiffed on the IMAX posters, this is the first IMAX showing but there was a non IMAX showing right before. Wonder if those scumbags stole them.

So jealous of you Shinkawa poster owners. Isn't selling for over 100$ online? I wish they provided the png file so I can print it myself at some printing place
No, they've had an auction up for the last 24 hours or so for five of these posters, and they're struggling to sell for $40 [four sold, one remaining].

Unfortunately, they only ship to the US [I emailed the guy]. -_-

I had to walk 15 blocks under heavy rain to get in time to imax, and my god was it worth it. Me, and the other 4 i dragged along absolutely loved it. Although i believe it's not for everyone, if you like this sort of thing you'll love it 9/10. The only imax in the country and it was only a third full, maybe in regular cinemas it'll perfom better, if not such a damn shame. And GODDAMN I NEED THAT POSTER.

Saw it tonight and loved it! It had everything I wanted from a GIANT MONSTERS FIGHT GIANT ROBOTS movie. Satisfied all of my Godzilla desires

Just got back with my 3 Shinkawa posters in tow.

Let me tell you that I loved every moment of the movie, as did my family and friends. I was smiling the whole time. Everything was spot on for me, and the 3D was great as well.

Will definitely see it again, and you can believe I will sing its praises to everyone I encounter.

I just got back from Imax 3d showing....MY GOD!

Great score, during the fight scene especially.
Great story.
The scale of everything blew me away.

I believe Imax 3d is the definitive version.

Anyway just thought I'd share.

Spoiler Alert
Dinosaurs were the first wave? I was so into the movie at that point I loved this detail. Edit I was wrong about this, correction below.

People getting extras of the Yoji Shinkawa posters give me hope.

It's not much hope...but hope nonetheless. I will take it! I'm still refreshing the Ebay auctions every few minutes waiting for one to be listed that will ship to Canada!

*grumble grumble*

I'm happy to hear that the 3D is great. That was really the only thing I was worried about, since IMAX showings here show it in 3D and nothing else [and I definitely want to see this in IMAX, it's one of the few real IMAX theaters].

same. I'm confused I thought they meant the kaiju were sent to take out the dinosaurs. You make it sound like the dinosaurs were kaiju.

I suppose I should mention the 7pm IMAX 3D screening I saw had maybe 20 people total in the theater :(

Oh - was very impressed with the 3D, much better than Man of Steel

True Fact: First you cancel the apocalypse and THEN you see Pacific Rim.

I'm sure the later showings will prove to be more successful.
I hope. :(

This movie deserves to do well. I loved how they don't beat the plot points over your head. It's about time a movie treated us like we are capable of filling in facts on our own.

I'm really worried that it won't do well, but maybe this is one of those movies that start out slow but, as positive word spreads, sales increase over-time?

I can hope.

I have it doing somewhere like Cloverfield and District 9 numbers. But this is clearly superior and should exceed both at the end of its run. It has cult classic stamped all over it.

If anyone snags an extra Shinkawa poster I'd love to get it. Obviously I'd pay for shipping and all that.

Positive word doesn't always mean much, I've watched so many great movies falter. I feel bad for Guillermo, he crafts such beautiful movies and they review well but I'll be damned if they can't squeeze out the big cash. I've wanted him to land a big hit since seeing Hellboy.

Classic makes me happy, Cult"...not so much. That doesn't usually equal good sales. :(

In either case, I hope it encourages more Director's to do something like Guillermo has done. We need more of this style of movie. If anything, I'm sure it inspires Kojima-san to do his own movie [Zone of the Enders, anyone?]. >:)

I agree completely, he's definitely a unique Director.

it's a shame they don't get as many sales as they should, he definitely deserves it.

Hopefully it inspires him to do something besides metal gear solid :P

I was expecting much more from it. The plot was so simplistic and they just threw every single cliche at it. The main characters were as flat as a 50 year old Coke. It was just... I don't know, weak. The action was fantastially done though, and my inner geek had nerdgasms in some of the best battles, but.... heh. Secondary Characters were worthless. Finale was expected. Etc, etc. Just a weak attempt but an otherwise actually fun/enjoyable moment. Its just knowing Guillermo del Toro I expected a bit more from the story side and more fleshed out characters. 3D was fantastic though!

6/10'

Sidenote: I hope the movie does great. We need more of this stuff. Its a start! I may go see it again and see how it fares in a second viewing.

I love Metal Gear Solid, but yes, something new from him [if we can't have Zone of the Enders 3] would be great.

He's got a great vision.

Just got back from a full theater in Bermuda for the 9:30 premiere, dragged like 7 loosely affiliated friends with me. None of them are really into the mecha stuff like I am, but we all enjoyed it thoroughly.

My experience was definitely enhanced, picking out the references here and there. "Yup, that's
Big O's piston punch
. Yup, that's that specific plot element from
Giant Robo
. Yup, that's the Rocket Punch from...everything."

There was trivia before the movie that said teh director only had 130 days or so to film it, so to save time he had the actors ad lib. That definitely caused me to lower my acting/character/plot expectations and it paid off.
