New Dragon's Crown trailer

I ran across this. They seem to be the basic movesets for each character

http://www.4gamer.net/games/134/G013480/20130622007/

Those cards seem like they're for the Vita version, since it says R instead of R1. Based on the movelists, The Fighter and the Amazon play exactly the same, as do the Wizard and Sorceress. The Dwarf and Elf are both unique. So there are really more like 4 classes with a gender option for the two more generic classes?

I would appreciate that. I've got a lot of art as well (stuff I've grabbed off videos, extracted from the main website, etc), but always looking for more. No promises I won't cut, paste, crop, and edit stuff mercilessly when I make the OT, though.

I already got your thread logo ready:

:P

Anyway, I created the Dragon's Crown art album for you. I'll be adding art regularly.

Not sure how much the differences will be played up, but the Fighter sounds more defensive with his Shield Blocks, while the Amazon is forced to Weapon Block but also has a Mega Smash attack.

Also, as I noted above, the magic sets between Wizard and Sorceress are different (Wizard is a strong mage-like character, Sorceress has necromancy and transformation magic).

The fighter also has a mega smash attack. The move lists are identical. I guess the difference would be in what the actual attacks are. There'll probably be differences in range and damage, as well as defence.

Oh, just noticed the Fighter has the mega smash as well.

I would imagine that the Fighter's shield block allows it to transition between offense and defense more quickly, whereas the Amazon's weapon block doesn't allow it so easilly -- but this is just speculation on my part.

Seeing the characters videos seems like they have different move set, The Fighter can defend, Amazon has air jump, etc... is more than simply skins.

Quick translation of the control schemes above:

Fighter:
Square: Sword attack (can attack in succession)
Long-Hold Square: Shield Block

Attack and defend on the same button? Eesh.

:P

Ha, nice. I like the fighter's proportions in that, really shows off how he skips the legs routine in his workout.

I think another big difference might be in the weapons they can equip. The Fighter would be forced to equip one handed weapons and shields, while the Amazon uses the two-handed weapons. It's probably easier for them to design 4 basic move sets, and then differentiate the extra characters by what they can use and what the actual attacks do. Makes sense I guess.

Another bit I forgot about is the fact that every class has a range of Class Skills to learn at the guide. These will probably differentiate the characters even more because each class has unique skills which only they can learn.

There was also a recent series of IGN videos showing off the differences between characters, etc.

Interestingly, the stat that influences your treasure rank is luck, and the ladies have higher luck stats than the men, meaning you need booty to get booty.

Also, because it hasn't been posted in this thread:

Yup, so even if the identical movesets were a cause for concern you have numerous factors making each character distinct from another.

- Weapons (and the animations tied to them)
- Mobility
- Hitbox
- Class Skills
- Stat differences (that one video showing just how frail the Amazon is is a good example)

It seems like the movesets would make it easier for someone to jump from Fighter to Amazon or Sorceress to Wizard. Elf's seems to be complex as hell because she's doing both melee and long range attacks.

Worth noting that while the Wizard and Sorceress' control schemes are the same, their magic is different. The Wizard is said to have incredibly strong magic power, while the Sorceress can do things like control skeletons and turn enemies into frogs.

I can't wait for this game.

Thanks for this! So defense in this game is the same as Shadows of Mystara (Hold the button to block), rather than being set to a button. Surprising!

It's using a good variety of older brawler ideas to keep a vast amount of commands simple: a lot of single presses, holds, and simple direction + buttons, for attacks that could still have quite the variety.

All that on top of lots of item use, and the purchaseable skills (which I'm personally not too confident in yet; I could see those boiling down to buying buffs for skills you already have, for example) should mean there's a lot of play to work with in this game...

Looking through the move list....eh? no QCF motion? Perhaps unlockable skill at higher level?

Any idea if the Vita version can play MP via online?

Mystara does a lot of this, in fact. All characters but the Magic User have a down, up attack but what it actually does is quite different from character to character.

Still, it's kind of funny that the movelist, if that's all there is to it, is rather simpler than Mystara's. I'm quite intrigued about those "small spell" "large spell" attacks. I'm guessing those are stuff like the smalle flame (wizard) and ice/wind (sorceress) spells we see in most videos, while the larger, book-bound spells are treated like consumable items? Which, BTW, I'm not sure how they're activated. Triangle?

Can we use the d-pad for movement on Vita? the three video showing moving with the stick only.

Still can't decide which version to buy. :|

By default, character controller is on the left-stick, and items are on the d-pad, but you're supposed to be able to switch that in the options menu. The rest of the controls are locked in place, though.

hmmm, so if I switch then items selection will be on the Vita stick, hah that will be bad.

well I guess this is one huge advantage gone from Vita (aka Vita superior d-pad) now I lean more toward the PS3 version.

Thanks for the info.

No problem. Who knows, though, there might be some other control options for the Vita, but the only thing I've heard/read about is just touching the screen to get the thief to open chests/doors/etcetera instead of doing that with the right-stick like in the PlayStation 3 version.

Anyway, here's some video where the Japanese voice actress for the Elf plays the game while yelling enthusiastically or something: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q4QpKkU8z5s

Also, it seems the file sizes for the downloadable versions are out. PlayStation 3 version is 1.5GB, and the Vita version is 1.1GB. The info supposedly comes from the Japanese PlayStation Store.

Also, because it hasn't been posted in this thread:

Makes a beautiful wallpaper on Vita.

This game was on my "maybe" list, but the more videos (and fanart) I see, the more I want it. It is now a definite buy. Wish I could get my hands on the 64 page artbook that the US is getting though. Game doesn't use back touch in any way, does it?

I just preordered my import copy from VGP. Finally PS3 copy.

I know I'll be picking up VITA version somewhere in the near future and I want to see those gorgeous visuals in a large screen.

Edit: I added my self to the Google doc list. Can't wait to play this with some Gaffers!!

Who the hell wants a 120hr beat-em-up?

Serious question, is dragon's crown any different from a lateral sidescrolling rpg? I mean are combats in rpgs better/different/deeper than in dragon's crown? If skyrim, dragon's dogma etc were lateral 2d do you think that they would be really that better/different/deeper than dragon's crown?
Imo people has a wrong idea of what beat'em ups and rpgs really are.

Well, a piece of soggy toast has better combat than Skyrim, but I think the whole "people have the wrong idea of what an RPG is" discussion should have its own thread rather than be a de-railing of this one.

We don't know a lot about Dragon's Crown yet. The reveal of PVP and community cooking came as a surprise to everyone, and they still haven't shown everything I think.

What we do know is that it's a co-op beat 'em up in a fantasy setting with RPG elements such as levels, equipment, learnable skills and traits, traps, treasure, and loot tables. We also know it has cooking.

I think a lot of your questions would be better answered by watching any of the gameplay videos (there are lots of them) linked in this thread rather than trying to analogize it as "X meets Y" and dismiss it as not being as A as B is.
