Pacific Rim |OT| Apocalypse Never

Why...? So basically we won't be getting a Cherno figure.
This might come in handy.

I expect NECA to eventually make one. This is the same company that has released fifty hojillion variants of the Predator; a recent summer blockbuster seems like it can sell enough figures for a series 3.

I definitely agree that Cherno and Otachi are the two big ones that don't have a figure yet. Slattern could also use one, but it's not as memorable as those two.

Pretty good movie, would like to see a sequel.

Needs charlie, mac and dennis in their own jaeger.

The movie probably could have had 15-20 minutes cut from it and it would be better off for it. Mostly the pilot stuff.

Pacific Rim's story was never about one person either, it was about 3 things coming together: humanity as a whole to fend off an alien attack, giant mechs, giant monsters. They were never trying to set up an iconic figure like Hulk or Superman, or even Godzilla that was the end all, be all of the movie universe.

I already said that's the beauty of it to some people I guess, monsters, mechs, and some people in the middle. I think that's enough for a subculture of people, but I'd be surprised if it has major mainstream box office success with characters as undeveloped and uncharismatic as this. Maybe it will be a more global success, but U.S. I have a hard time seeing it, since people generally go to see characters.

Even the likes of Hulk, Superman are about characters that lead into the action extremely easily. But even them, characters like Batman or Spider-man are better setup to be successes because they have more dynamic personalities. For me, mechs vs. monsters wasn't enough. The fights were too in tight, too many night shots. I'll just leave it at that. What I enjoyed most was the fights in spite of that, and the visual design of, luminscent creatures against hong kong.

The theater where I live didn't get the movie. I guess I'll have to wait for the Blu-Ray.

It was really weird, there were about 2 regular showtimes between 7 and closing on a friday at my theater. Had to take an Imax 3D at 7:45 instead. I didn't understand why it didn't have more showtimes. Maybe too many films out there between Despicable, Grownups 2, and previous weeks offerings?

My review:

In a word? Awesome.

The entire movie was basically this less complicated, less fucked up version of Evangelion. Characters worked within the context of the movie. I wasn't expecting Oscar-worthy performances, but they were serviceable. Charlie Day was my personal standout because of how much of a contrast he was compared to the rest of the cast.

The Jaegers? Awesome. I liked the uniqueness of each one, and the mechanics of how they're piloted was really thought out. Personal favourite is Gispy Danger, because of how "heroic" it looks, compared to the others.

I only wish we got some more background on the characters, especially the other Jaeger pilots. I had the opportunity to read Tales From Year Zero (comic), so I got to know these characters before watching the movie, but it would've been nice to see it on screen.

I would love a sequel, either in movie or comic form. Del Toro pls.

My problem is that I'm in the middle of nowhere. The theater here only has three screens, so they only get the big movies.

In line for Imax 3D. Will be my second time seeing it. gf is hyped for this movie. 1 hour to gooooooo

Movie was really fun. Special Effects were amazing and the alien encounters were enough to satisfy.

I'm hoping this movie gets enough good word of mouth, makes alot of money, and gives us a sequel.

Would literally pay anything to see the full cast of always sunny in jaegers

Lets kickstart this bitch

Thank you Guillermo Del Toro for making me feel like an 8 year old again. Seriously, the fights looked like they came straight out of my head when I was 8. It was magical.

I loved the characters and their relationship to each other as well. It fit the movie perfectly and helped establish the tone really well.

My favorite things about the movie
-Hong Kong sequence
-Ron Perlman character
-None romantic male-female relationships (sick of bs romantic relationships)
-Use of electric guitar in the soundtrack (Terran music anyone?)
-Back and forth between different spoken languages

Only thing that really bugged me was the ending. It was just too cliche.

After Cronos, Devils Backbone, Pan's Labyrinth, and now Pacific Rim, Guillermo has become my favorite director. I can't wait for him to get the chance to do Mountains of Madness.

Well, I hope you enjoy it. I had great fun with it =)

Just saw it and WOW AMAZING MOVIE! so epic. I take everything i said back lol. i dunno how but they should have marketed better movie deserves to be a success.

And watching this movie really makes me want a proper live action Evangelion movie

Seriously this movie better not bomb. Really frustrating when shit like grown ups will probably get a grownups 3. I read that some big risk were taken in making this movie. Really hoping the word of mouth does it well. I want more movies like this made. I seriously felt like I was a kid again. It seriously reminded me when my brother took me to see terminator 2 when I was younger.... Such a fun ride!

Just got back from seeing it, god damn this movie is amazing!
That part with the Sword! Like, holy fucking shit, everyone in the theater was cheering!

Man, I wish Canadians were as enthusiastic as I hear Americans are about movies.

The only people making any sort of noise in my theatre were from my group, and the place was almost full :/

Saw it again. EVEN BETTER THE SECOND TIME

People were cheering in both the screenings I went to!

Yeah, people were cheering in my showing too, even though the theater was only about a third full. But then they had it showing on 3 screens, so that could be why too.

I am Canadian, people may have cheered at that one part but I was the only one at the end who was clapping :/

I guess I'm just some sort of boredom magnet, then. The only time I've been part of an enthusiastic audience was during Transformers 3, and it was mostly made up of dumb 14-year-olds who cheered at the wrong places and wouldn't shut up if stuff wasn't exploding every five seconds. Not even the midnight screenings of The Avengers or TDKR that I attended elicited a single cheer from the audience :<

Ugh I know what you mean, when I saw Transformers 3 everyone was cheering once the Autobots came back to fight (it was so predictable). At least the part with the
sword
in Pacific Rim was unexpected, made me think of mecha anime. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if Del Toro watches anime.

Yeah, my audience gasped when they found out that that one jerky dude was evil (which is a contender for the most obvious twist in the world) and cheered whenever the Decepticons blew something up (which was a lot). Man, they were just massively misguided :(

Re: del Toro watching anime: Oh, he definitely does. The whole fight with
Metavore in Sydney
seemed like a massive Gunbuster/Macross reference.

That moment flipped a little switch inside me that just put me in "yeah okay, lets just do it" mode. Really felt ripped from anime.
