At least with manslaughter, they could have taken the "but not for Zimmerman's initiating a confrontation, Trayvon would still be alive" approach.

The facts of the case didn't hang on him being innocent of taking a life, we already knew that for sure. The case was about the killing being justified.

Personally, I don't think it really was. But like I said with OJ and Casey Anthony, they've gone through the process. I'm glad this actually went to trial and wasn't swept under the rug.

If there's no real evidence proving that the accused did something then a jury isn't going to rule against them. There was no hard evidence proving Zimmerman didn't act in self-defence, thus he walks. Just like Anthony did.

They blew it by overcharging and trying to get manslaughter at the end of the trial.
