Verdict reached in George Zimmerman case - Not Guilty

This is an embarrassing moment for all Americans, not just the Florida Justice Department.

I look forward to the next case that uses the precedent set here as their defense.

Don't have to wait long, we still have the case shortly after this here in J-ville where the guy shot the kid for playing his music loud in a gas station parking lot. After this verdict i'm fully expecting that guy to get off to no matter how ridiculous it seems.

What the fuck?

I'm not happy about it. About as far from it as possible. Zimmerman is a piece of shit who should rot in hell but the not guilty verdicts were the correct ones based on the evidence provided in court.

How does this reflect poorly on our justice system? This is our system, just because it doesn't go the way you wanted does not mean the system failed. The evidence just wasn't there. The whole thing was very muddy. Yes, Zimmerman's entire story sounds fishy and personally think he was trying to be a gung-ho hero, but there isn't anything to prove that he went out to create that outcome. I'd rather our justice system let people go under circumstances like this rather than convicting people who might not be guilty. We can't lock people away based off inclinations and perceptions. There was tons of reasonable doubt about what lead up to the shooting.

Both sides presented their case, he was tried in front of a jury of his peers. This was justice in our country.

I'm a little disappointed. But I'm just happy this went to trial like it should have.

I agree with this. We have a court system for a reason and the trial was a fair one. Sometimes you don't get the result you want or is just in the eyes of most folks.

So was there a jury leak? GZ's friend went on TV earlier today saying it was 5-1 for acquittal and there was a 1 hold out for manslaughter.

I assume that one person was the person who asked the question and during dinner they got turned.

Prosecution blew it. Overcharged him and then didn't deliver. So, not surprised and as an attorney I think the jury got it right. As a citizen I'm pissed as this guy should serve time no question.

Isn't there no proof at all that he was even attacked? So how can he kill someone and claim self-defense if there is no proof of him being attacked?

There are pictures of him with his nose and back of his head bloody but nothing compared to shooting and killing someone.

Obligatory

Still chuckled even though I expected it.

what happened is an unarmed kid was killed after needless provocation by some white dude.

Zimmerna's about as white as Obama. He may have a white parent but he doesn't look white to me. I dislike people who make this case a white/black issue instead of what it is: an over-zealous security guard who shouldn't be packing more than a tazer to begin with and a teenager who refused to comply with his community's security patrol. Fix your gun laws, Murica.

I have to keep reminding myself that this happened in the south. The south is a part of America.. but it's still the south.

Just stay the fuck away from the fucking south man. Just STAY AWAY

You guys just wait for the Fox Interview where they paint Trayvon as the evil incarnate, and comforts Zimmerman as he tearfully recount his narrow escape from that weed smoking black devil.

People must have only been getting case information off social media if your surprised at this verdict. Every competent legal analyst was forecasting this since the state rested its case.

I honestly don't think the justice system failed. I think the lawmakers of Florida have failed with the Stand Your Ground bullshit. That's the problem.

I thought all along that he would get off.. I was surprised when I was reading this thread and everyone was saying it was a sure thing he would be found guilty

You're honestly telling me that the facts don't support even a manslaughter conviction?

Fucking DISGUSTING.

2nd time in my city someone murdered a CHILD in cold BLOOD and got away with it.

Orlando is disgusting, this country is disgusting.

He better fucking hide his ass GOOD is all i know.

Do people really believe this? Dude can disappear half way across the world no problem and live a perfectly normal life.

With all the money that his newfound celebrity will bring him, too.

However, as a human being, the psychological torture of killing another human being I would imagine will be with him for the rest of his life.

Majorly overoptimistic. :/

They've been predicting it since the state charged him with 2nd degree murder

Sad that this happened, but the fact the prosecution wasn't able to flat out prove what happened in the moments leading up to the shooting meant they had an uphill battle. They must prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt and were not able to do so.

Pretty much. Not just going on "he followed and shot him".

Manslaughter would have been the maximum.

Should have been at least Manslaughter in my opinion.

I look back at the final scene of Friday for reference, fight with your fists and live to fight another day, win or lose. Pull out a gun and it is an entirely different story. Just because you have the "Community Watch" title doesn't mean you should be so quick to pull out a gun to resolve a fight.

Stay safe Florida.

So all that someone needs to do to murder someone clean in this country is to carry a concealed weapon, then attack them at night. As they defend themselves, shoot them and say you were defending yourself.

Uh... what the fuck?

Basically if you're going to kill someone...it's probably easier if they're black. That's what I've learned from all of this. ugh

Great post. Justice is about the process, not the outcome.

Florida's self defense law makes no sense. Dead people don't talk. If they did the law would make more sense.
