The jury believed it was self defense. That is how our justice system works. We are only seeing pieces. Most of you get your information from the media and third party sources. You may not be happy with the verdict, but they system worked.

I'm really astonished by the people posting some variation on this. The purpose of the justice system is to produce justice, not to follow its own rules. The rules exist because we believe that they will lead to justice, not the other way around.

Do you think George Zimmerman should or should not be held responsible for the killing of Trayvon Martin? If you think he should be, then the system has failed. The fact that it failed by following its rules does not mean that it didn't fail -- especially given how often the system fails to follow its own rules when doing so would mean not putting a black man in prison.

No evidence = No conviction. The system works, as far as that's concerned. Prosecution did a great job with what they had, but O'Mara and West put forward a great defense.

I live in Seminole County, Florida. I won't forget about this in a week, a month, a year. My cousin lives in Sanford, could have easily been him. Dude just got away with murder.

But, legally, the prosecution had to prove the unprovable beyond a reasonable doubt, because just proving that he did it and he started it wasn't enough.

The news commentator on the livestream I watched mentioned that he thought the defense had the argument won on the legal side of things, but that the prosecution had it on the moral side of things. And it's frustrating that there's such a wide gulf between the two in this case.

That's dumb. This should have went to trial. An unarmed minor got killed by a guy who changed his story a bunch of times and was told not to follow the subsequently killed person.

I had only watched the majority of the Prosecutions case, barely any of the defense's case or the closing statements. The Prosecution had serious problems with witnesses and having a clear statement or message, to disprove the self defense completely. They never presented anything that shows what happened between GZ getting off the phone (at his car) and the final outcome.

I say this, after knowing very little of the leadup. I remember the original story when it hit the media, and then ignored all the details since. The Prosecution just completely botched it, enough that I didn't bother watching the defense (what did they do, present 18 people that claim "that's his voice!"?).

Just getting in the house, but why weren't the lower charges considered? Really thought Manslaughter or the negligent homicide charges would be alot more proveable.
