Florida's laws really failed the people on this one. God damned shame. That he didn't even get convicted of manslaughter is shameful.

If someone says its not about race you can just direct them to the youtube video where the defense defends profiling. Blatantly defends profiling.

I'm curious as to your reasoning for posting a link to "Hood Life Volume 3" in this thread.

Because he thinks everyone in the african american community and the black hispanic community are down here in gangs shooting up people n shit. Im surprised he wasnt spotted and banned for that FILTH

Because the law is the law is the law and we should just take this laying down because it's the law man.

How would you improve it?

I'm by no means think it's perfect, but, I don't know how to improve it. Instead of all of us talking about how shitty it is, let's talk about how we can improve it.

That's what it's coming down to. I've yet to read of a fair legal system in the entire history of the world. America is about as good as it'll get without having a time-machine that lets you see the exact crime in question. My point was, that it's not perfect, but, based on factual evidence. Factual. The prosecution did a poor job of going for a conviction. They should have built a case around Manslaughter and not Murder. As all preliminary evidence pointed to Manslaughter. People whom are upset should be pointing the finger at the prosecution and no one else. GZ did not get away with murder. He didn't commit murder, he committed Manslaughter. The State of Florida would have won that case had they built it properly. But, we have irrational assholes on both sides of the fence, screaming racist shit(both ways) and it gets a bit grating.

Wrong.

Murder 2 was the right charge...unless you really believe that Zimmerman didn't think a shot to the heart would kill a person.

The problem is that there were little to no evidence to circumvent his claim that he did it out of self-defense. Nothing more.

If GZ had enough freedom to grab a gun and fire it he had enough freedom to use his knees/legs/feet to nail this kid in the balls to get him off. Heck even punch him there.

This isn't racism.

The arguments the DA's made against GZ were bad and they couldn't sway a jury of five mothers that a young man was (likely) shot in cold blood because there wasn't any real evidence to prove it.

It sucks that this case had to be made into a race argument by a lot of people, when the real argument should be the repeal of Stand Your Ground laws. No citizen should be able to take a cop's job into their own hands.

The repercussions and moral messages from this case are just so unbelievably bad it's unreal. It's going to shape the law going forward, and it's going to be ugly. People are now free to arm themselves and follow around random teenagers just because they think they look "suspicious" and then if those kids retaliate, and they end up losing the upper hand, they're justified in shooting and killing them. UNREAL. I would not want to be a parent living in Florida. Scrub that, I wouldn't want to ever live in Florida, or most of the US full stop.

Agreed. This is sick.

I wonder how my coworker maced some creep in a Walmart parking lot because he followed her and nothing happened and yet he was arrested. Yet GZ walks a free man after killing an unarmed teen.

Oh wait, I know the answer already. I'm done with gaf for awhile, can't stand the thinly veiled bs posts and the gifs after the verdict.

I hate this country. GZ is a monster, he stalked and brutally murdered an innocent kid. I hope GZ will be living in fear for the rest of his life. How could any sensible person suggest GZwas innocent? Bull fucking shit if this country were fair he would be getting life for this. Isn't it sad how most GZ are racist? I'm somad, im tempted to leave this country and never return.

Still waiting on someone to tell me what piece of evidence the state provided that proved GZ was not acting in self defense.

Sounds to me like GAF is filled w/ people that wish to have an Orwellian judicial system that convicts people based on gut feeling and emotion while ignoring real and measurable evidence.

Self-Defense hinges on an honest and reasonable belief that you need to resort to force to defend yourself.

No one (or rather, the prosecution probably shouldn't have) disputed that GZ acted in self-defense (despite essentially creating the risk of harm himself, which is going to be a fun one when the civil suit comes up). But if it's not reasonable under the circumstances (like deadly force when it wasn't necessary to avoid grievous bodily harm), that is one of the grounds that mitigates murder to manslaughter!

What the fuck are you two babbling about? Zimmerman's lawyers made this into a race issue, cut this us against the world horseshit out.

If you're trying to imply that I'm for Zimmerman in any sense, I suggest you read the damn trial thread.

The media were a huge issue in this case, period. Once Zimmerman was charged, I shouldn'tve heard a goddamn thing about it until the verdict was in the paper.

I wasn't following the trial very closely, but wasn't there some pertinent info revealed that showed there was a possibility that Zimmerman was innocent?

I haven't really been following this case, but no matter what happened, I don't see Zimmerman going free:

>If Trayvon attacked first because he felt he was threatened (and you can't really believe someone's a "neighborhood watch" - especially late at night), Zimmerman should at least be held accountable for disobeying instructions not to pursue.

>If Zimmerman attacked first or gave any hint of aggression, he should be going to jail

I'd bet that if Trayvon were the one alive in either case, he'd be facing time, and it's quite obvious why.

Ugh this again? Dispatch is not the police, they have no authority. It's not against the law to follow someone.

No evidence he attacked first and if I call you an asshole and tell you to go fuck yourself it doesn't give you the legal right to punch me. Zimmerman could have done a lot of things but there just isn't any evidence. This is about what you can prove, not what you assume.

Madness. Manslaughter charges require the jury to believe that he "intentionally committed an act or acts that caused the death of Trayvon Martin."

Zimmerman himself (and his attorney) admitted as much. He followed an unarmed kid after being told not to do so. The entire confrontation is avoided if Zimmerman isn't a racist cowboy dumbass who racially profiled a kid cause he was black. He shot and killed the kid. That's manslaughter.

It's irrelevant who did what first after the confrontation started, because Zimmerman's stupidity created the situation in the first place.

Fuck Zimmerman and fuck our vigilante loving culture.

I say this as a white guy in the military. This is some Casey Anthony level bullshit.

About an hour ago, I started hearing fireworks a few doors down. To be honest, I thought nothing of it; just a couple of kids finishing off their July 4th stash. When I came to GAF and sped thru this thread, (didn't see the news) Ive seen other posters noticing the same thing...

I have a sickening feeling in my stomach now that I know why...the fireworks are still going strong...bastards...
