And yet it wouldn't rebut any of the valid points he made about this movie.
But I guess I shouldn't expect adult responses in a topic about a movie made for manchildren.

Saw it. lots of fun. expectations were a scoche too high, but I still really enjoyed it. figures are bought and are on their way.
Yup, valid points like missing an elaborate conversation about a son being bratty/spoilt. I guess we need more in the face spoon-feeding, damn you Nolan.

For a sci-fi action movie, it really nailed it whenever a comedic scene popped up to break the tension,
like that one part when they check for a pulse,too fucking perfect!

I think the best humor in the movie was the stuff that wasn't just a product of the script.
is way better than that groanworthy
because the visuals complemented the script.
So yeah, manchildren enjoy this film, but only because it's a film that genuinely feels like childhood. Feel free to enjoy your caviar and laugh at the people who enjoy a film for children; at least that way we'll both be enjoying it.

It's not a film made for manchildren. It's a film made for children, with a few regrettable concessions to older audiences. Everything about this film, from its action scenes to its silly archetype characters, feels like an unambiguous love letter to kids playing with their toys. I know, I made stupid stories like that while playing tag with my best friend. It lacks the clumsy and futile attempts of complexity true manchildren films like Prometheus have because it isn't stuck in that murky transitional period of wanting the enjoyment of childhood and fulfillment of adulthood.
So yeah, manchildren enjoy this film, but only because it's a film that genuinely feels like childhood. Feel free to enjoy your caviar and laugh at the people who enjoy a film for children; at least that way we'll both be enjoying it.

I really wanted to like the movie.
But it was just average at best. Some great epic moements but in a very weak script.
none of the relationships felt genuine and horrible cheesy moments sprinkled in.

Awesome spectacle. Kaiju vs Jaeger fights were mostly awesome.
The climactic battle was weak. Some of the dialogue was atrocious and Charlie Day is the most annoying overactor I've ever seen. He's terrible and every single moment he opened his mouth made me want to reach in a pull out his tongue.
Idris Elba was awesome as always, though.

Saw this today in IMAX 3D with my girlfriend. I'm really glad I decided to see this in 3D. It was done really well and I felt that it was money well spent. I had a blast seeing this movie and will definitely see it again with friends who haven't seen it yet. The story isn't anything special, but it holds up well enough to glue the movie together. The special effects and the fights were just incredible. Literally like some of the coolest stuff I've ever seen.
I'm sure there are people who will dislike it and critique and just overall be displeased. They can suck a dick. Take it for what it is and leave it at that. No need to pick it apart.

This one kid (had to be 8-10 years old) in the showing I went to ate this shit up. He was literally on the edge of his seat during the fight scenes. I thought he would fall off lol.

Seriously, I refuse to be associated with anyone who wants to see that garbage. I don't even care how elitist or ignorant that makes me sound.
Every kid is different, but after seeing it, I'm going to let my eight year old daughter watch it. (She finally got interested tonight, when I was going.) The violence did get pretty intense at times, so it's understandable why you might not.
Nah, checking those box office numbers none of them will have seen it.
i think some parts might be too much for kids. basically all the parts with
pilot deaths were kind of brutal.

This is a weak argument given the disparity in the levels and intensity of violence in Bambi and Pacific Rim.
I get the point you're making, but different kids handle things very differently, especially that young. My two daughters (8 and 10) have totally different tolerance levels for violence. Nothing wrong with deciding not to take an eight year old to this movie on that basis.

After thinking more about it, its pretty disappointing thinking of possibilities for a prequel cartoon.
Start around Gypsy Danger's activation, Raleigh & Yancy as the protagonists along with at least one other pair. and a female in the group.
Main story arc is Gypsy's 5 kills(have maybe 2 as recurring nemesis)
team up episodes that focus on the other mechs & pilots.
Stacker as the protagonist of episodes featuring the past.

I wouldn't take kids because they would probably be bored by the halfway point.
Again, depends on the kids. Both of mine watched Titanic in theaters during the re-release. Twice. The slow talky parts early on were some of their favorite parts.

I remember watching an interview where Del Toro said he made the film for about 50% the budget he was allotted. I think that if they don't give on it (and this is a legendary pictures film, more than a WB film), it will give them a great money making sequel. Actually, fuck it, I'll be optimistic. It will get a sequel.

Fucking loved it. Best film I've seen all year, and makes an absolute mockery of self important hyped sci fi blockbuster films. It's a cliched love letter to men in rubber suits and it is so much fun.

I knew Wings were coming, after seeing it in a trailer. Still, didn't piece it together that it was going to be the one it ended up being. I thought it might have been a seperate kaiju, that had wings from the start. Definitely a "OH SHIIIIIT" moment.

I didnt watch any trailers, so I never knew that was coming. Was certainly a bit of a shock to be honest.
Just watched it, thought it was pretty bad. The only things going for it were that the mechs and monsters looked impressive.
Couldn't really give a shit about any of the characters and I can't remember the last time the climax of a film elicited so little emotional reaction. I expected more mindless action and less focus on the story and poorly developed characters. Flashback scene involving Mako was especially bad. Action wasn't great either, the sequences were overlong and rather samey, not helped by the fact that it was always dark and often surrounded by waves, thus serving to obscure vision. Sound was overbearing as well.
Also, this is a rather personal issue and not directly a criticism of the movie but I am getting really, really sick of the White male-Asian female pairing.

Saw this last night and was blown away in many respects. Wonderful, colossal destruction, so many cool scenes with great action.
I did find the ending anticlimactic; I don't think the final scenes got out of the shadow of the action in the middle.
This was a pity, and reminds me that I had similar problems with the Hellboy films, and that perhaps Del Toro has trouble putting a convincing ending together.
But I agree with whoever it was said they enjoyed the world in Pacific Rim and would look forward to spending more time in it. I can understand the 'cheesy comic book' criticism but I think you have to understand and appreciate this film for what it is instead of hankering for another dour Nolan superhero movie. It's very much like Speed Racer in that respect: vibrant, OTT, and happy to occupy a genre niche and excel at what it does rather than thin itself down for wider appeal.
Compliments to the chef, that was delicious.
