pretty fun, kinda want to see it again on a much much much larger screen

This is the kind of movie that IMAX was made for. If you enjoyed the movie, I would absolutely go for it. Also i thought the 3d was great, and I usually avoid 3d. It worked well here.

What if it was a videogame?

Saw it today and absolutely loved it! Great set pieces and it delivered on everything I wanted out of a live action Mech movie. I will definitely see it again in 3D and pick up the disc when it releases. I hope that it makes all of its money back and then some - I want to see more movies of this scale in the future.

Saw it this afternoon. Absolutely loved it! I rarely go to the theatre these days but this was totally worth it.

Even the 3d was enjoyable and I have not been sold on that at all. Not sure I'll be able to see it again on the big screen but I am definitely getting the blu-ray day 1.

Thank you del Toro for creating such an awesome movie!

Fuck a sequel. The movie gave you everything you wanted and wrapped the story up in one film. Leave it alone! It's gonna be a cult classic forever.

even worse than no sequel is that this pretty much means other mecha stuff will not be greenlit.

i think evangelion was on WETA's backburner for years now.

An Evangelion movie hasn't happened primarily due to Gainax's attempt to renege on the film option placed on the property by ADV. According to ADV, a studio was interested in establishing a partnership to get the film financed, but that collapsed when legal troubles arose from Gainax. The financial degradation and asset sale of ADV in 2009 also complicated matters.

Saw it last night. Definitely a disappointment.

The VFX suffers from the same issues of Transformers. Too much visual noise and close ups. The fights were either on land in pouring rain, waist deep in water with waves/splashes, or under water with bubbles and sediment. The VFX teams much have been proud of the particle system to fill every shot with them, but just because you can do something, doesn't mean you should.

In the old Godzilla films, a dude dressed up in a Jet Jaguar costume doing judo moves on a dude dressed up in a Mothra costume might have looked chessy, but you could always see what was going on. In PR, most of the battles lost their impact due to being like CGI version of fight scene from the Bourne films.

As for the actual drama aspect, it was just soap opera level guff. I did find it funny that a big deal had been made about how this wasn't a typical Hollywood movie where America saves the world. Yet in PR,
the American saves the world
, and Idris Elba aside, all the non-Americans were OTT cultural stereotypes. Holy fuck at the exaggerated British accent of the maths dude, and despite living in Australia for the past decade, I couldn't understand what the fuck the Aussie dad was saying, due to his accent.

I really wanted for this movie to make money, but not for a sequel. I don't want a sequel. I agree with this guy that I got enough out of the story in this film. I would rather see it make $ so that Hollywood can start releasing more movies that aren't sequels, prequels, comic book movies or Adam Sandler comedies.

It was good. A bit too cheeseball for my tastes, but the visuals were incredible, obviously. Paid $6, which can't be beat these days; I simply cannot fathom paying close to $20 for ANY movie, in IMAX or whatever.

Charlie Hunnam is terrible, but he's handsome and buff, so he's perfect for the role. Plus he's like the perfect amalgamation of Channing Tatum, Matt Damon and Josh Hartnett — so yeah I hate him.

The theatre I was in was extremely nerdy. Clapping, HUGE belly laughs over almost all of the awful jokes and one-liners, and some It's Always Sunny fanboys/girls that lost their shit over everything Charlie Day did.

I was sort of disappointed that the movie sort of closes it's doors on this universe. There isn't much room for a sequel really.

There's actually a ton of room. Del Toro in a recent interview even mentioned an interesting direction for a sequel to take, plus other Jeegers he wanted to use...

End spoilers!

He stated that now the Kaiju Masters have remnants of a Jaeger... Human tech... which means... FUCKING MECHA-KAIJU. Plus, Matador Fury must have her day.

Prequel cartoon could be better than a sequel or prequel movie imo.

Saw this for the second time tonight, this time in IMAX.
most fun movie I have ever seen, and this coming from a guy who didn't even like mech shows much till last summer.

What kind of machine at the center of a nuclear blast will leave any kind of remnants?

this this this this a trillion times this

and to the guys saying how everything ended nicely and there's not much room for sequel
who says the alien race couldn't just build another portal?
and it's not like when gypsy exploded the whole alien mastermind race died with it, at most it would only destroy 1 city, if anything this would make the alien race pissed and even more determined to take earth

please god let there be a goddamn sequel, i'll even go to church again!
