Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | July 2013 | Slow Month, Fast Games

Thanks to all the Vitabros that recommended getting Mortal Kombat at the $5 sale.

So much fun, it controls perfectly I was pulling specials and combos on the Vita d-pad so easily; it runs great and the character models are not too bad either.

I've been playing the challenge tower mostly and am up to floor 160, really enjoying it!

Glad your enjoying it, the only downside imo is that its a memory hog, but its one of the most full featured games on the system, so not as big an issue overall.

I guess no Vita version of Ultra Street Fighter 4 signals the final nail in Capcom support of the Vita. It would bother me more if Capcom actually released games that I cared about, but as it stands the only two releases that I can think of that I really enjoyed this gen are Dragons Dogma, and Okami HD.

Really hope Injustice is coming to Vita, one of my favorite fighters in awhile.

How do you guys feel about Gungnir? I already bought the other Dept. Heaven titles and I want to complete the set but I guess I could wait since it looks like the other games are going to take a long while for me to finish anyway.

MK plays so well. I especially take great satisfaction inflicting fatalities upon Kratos--for some reason I really hate that dude.

Im really in the mood for Mech action and I was thinking about picking up one of the armored core games(psp) on Vita. Has anyone played them that can recommend on over the others, it looks like my options are Armored core 3 portable, Silent line, or Last Raven. Would be awesome to get a native Vita Armored core, but it seems From Soft is not doing much on the portable side at this point anymore.

Any recommendations on this are much appreciated.

.

I thought it was the best of them, but then again, it's also by far the most traditional (fairly typical SRPG)

What DiscoJer said. Has all the "look how much we can do" going on, but none of the "wtf is this" going on.

I'm digging it a lot. I say get it while it's cheap and before they ever decide it doesn't get to be on the NA store for no reason.

Thanks guys. Maybe I will pick Gungnir up then. And I have a feeling if it goes on sale another time in the future it'll probably be for the same price as it is now anyway.

I'd like to know this too! (Also, Armored Core was made by the same guys that did Dark Souls?)

Again I understand that, but with SE bringing Chaos Rings I have to wonder if those limitations apply to them. I always thought it was little weird that Sony made the Vita, and PS4 so easy to develop for, but completely boned PSM the way they have up to now.

I don't know chaos ring, but i can only guess that something capable of these(some of the psm demos) is enough for square

I am a sucker for romance.

Recommend me games for Vita with romance as one of its elements. The more important it is as an element, the better.

PSN/PSP/PS1 (outside Final Fantasy games) games that can be played in Vita are okay too.

Haha ok I never ran across a question like that before.

Persona 3 & 4
New Little King's Story
Dynasty Warriors Next
Riviera
Corpse Party
jk I have it but I haven't finished it yet so mark this as a "maybe"

Pink Spots Leg Massage is the obvious answer.

Romance of the three kingdoms! j/k

There are some visual novels on PSM too.

There's that hakuoki something game, dating sim game in shinsengumi era but you play as the girl if thats ok with you. There's also upcoming sweet fuse visual novel too, again, you play as the girl. :P

This http://youtu.be/A9oOvmu2-XU looks much more advanced then anything on PSM so far and the sequels are better, not to mention Square already noted that it would not be all they are going to bring to PSMobile. The difference between PSM, and PSVita is that Square "wants" to support it. The Vita itself? Not so much.

My games collection:

Vita: Wipeout 2048, DOA 5 Plus, Soul Sacrifice, DJMAX Technika Tune, Muramasa Rebirth, Gravity Rush, Persona 4 Golden, Assassin's Creed Liberation.

PSN: Thomas Was Alone, Mutant Blobs Attack, Super Stardust Delta, Zen Pinball 2, Guacamelee, Hotline Miami.

PS1: Breath of Fire IV and Harvest Moon: Back to Nature.

Dynasty Warriors Next you say? Hmmm. How strong is the romance element in this game? And Riviera: I've played the DS version before so is it worth it to buy the (I assume) PSP version? And NLKS... Honestly I am eyeing this game too, but the often reported framerate problem bothers me. I can overlook it I guess if the story is charming enough. Is it charming? And how strong you say the romance elements in this game are?

Pink Spots Leg Massage is the obvious answer.

WTF. Is this for real? Anyone here buying it?

How's the quality for those visual novels? Any recommendations?

Nah man, I am not comfortable with playing Otome games, really not my cup of tea.

Obvious answer is Dokuro, like come on guys

I heard conflicting reports about the quality of this game. Hmm, care to drop a little review?

Also, more recommendations are welcome please! :)

It doesn't look more advanced than that rpg demo imo, design make the real difference.
The psm rpg demo is 3d open world while the exploration i chaos ring is done in 2d environments and fights have just some characters in a very limited and not so detailed 3d environment.
Imo chaos ring on psm could be possible, on the other hand deus ex the fall is impossible.

I purchased this game in a sale a while ago, I think it's good, the puzzles are fun to figure out. BUT the game (at least from what I can tell) is really long - and that doesn't suit me. I tend to play one game at a time and the length is just too much for this type of game, I got bored of it and quit.

It's free this month on PS+, you can't go wrong with free.

Trophies aren't a problem. You'll only run into issues with multiplayer if it requires an online pass since as it would need to be redeemed through that specific region's PSN store.

Same question but for US PS1 games.

Will they work if I had a Vita and used my EU PSN account on it?

I bought several Final Fantasy PS1 games in the last US sale because of the 60hz vs. the 50hz PAL versions.

I don't believe it's possible without playing them on your US account anymore, I might be wrong though.

haven't tried online on MK. How is it? Do we still get matches or is there a long wait. I have to wait a bit before i pick a match in Sonic Transformed.

I've attempted to copy my US PSP titles from my PS3 onto my Vita while it was loaded with my AU memory card and it failed. Content Manager will error out and say that you must signed into the correct PSN ID. I'm sure that will be the case if you try to do it with PS1 games.

what else have you gotten? have u played Silent Hill?
Nope. I got Lego batman vita, knights in the nightmare, growlancer, Riviera, yggdra union and gungnir.

So far I have only played knights in the nightmare, and if you haven't heard of it, it is a real time, turn based, bullet hell, tic tac toe rpg. I am not kidding, that is exactly what it is. If you don't know what you are getting into, i would suggest not buying it, as I can see a lot of people not liking it. I kinda like its oddball mechanics though, so i will probably finish the game.

Iirc, it was my impression that the atlus sale is for the while month, but the summer sale ends this week. So if you want to get silent hill, you should get it tonight. But don't take my word for it. I played the silent hill demo and it really wasn't my cup of tea, personally, though fellow gaffer 2+2=5 swears it it good.

I really need a long term online game for my vita. Hopefully killlzone will help. On my PC is LoL. On my Vita there just isn't one. Would like someone to make a decent moba but im not counting on it. Maybe I will finally get soul sacrifice next month. I did like the demo and played so much of ragnarok and god eater.

Its a real shame I never see anyone online on EDF. Game is such a giggle. Also fighting games all seem to work pretty terrible online. Its either to much lag or never finding a game.

As a result I keep flicking from game to game and never find that perma fix certain games give me.

I want an mmorpg personally. I am hooked on the ff14 beta this past weekend, and I am pretty sure a smaller scale mmorpg (maybe an instanced one rather than a persistent world like the original guild wars or pso2) will get me hooked as well.

PSO2 would be perfect for me. Thats my fav kind of game probably seeing as how much I loved the first PSO.

Yea, people like to trash the vita heaven event, but I personally thought it was awesome because pso2 was announced. But damn, to date there are still no plans for localization.

I think SOE really dropped the ball not developing their own.

Not that the Vita would get it, but maybe you could play it via remote play or something...

Yeah I hear ya. Crazy we still don't have a date for the west. Really good mp game would go a long way for Vita. Funny how even KZ has just 4 v 4 mp. PSP socom games had higher player count than that. Still buying KZ day one though.

It may not be the mech action you are looking for but i suggest Front Mission 3.

Anyone try Growlanser?

I liked the PS2 games way back when even though I didn't get too far, but from the reviews I read it says the game is relatively hard/frustrating in certain areas which would be a major turn off...

I bought it on sale and played about 5 matches online, and was left unimpressed. Every person I fought was exploiting certain movies with their characters that I couldn't counter for the life of me. Combine that with a slight lag in the controls, and you can kind of guess how online is. I didn't win any of those matches.

Just beat the story mode last night, and it was alright. Kudos to them for actually implementing a real story mode to begin with, I've just never been into the MK mythos at all to begin with. The challenge towers are super fun though. Really great purchase all in all, for $5 you can't go wrong. Those character models though...

Well for me the one thing CoD on vita did is show that 4v4 can be fine. That games real issue was its terrible connection problems and some of its bugs and general lack of content.

With well designed maps 4v4 is fine. Also becomes more skill based and not the chaotic (albeit fun) large player count modes some of these games have.

My biggest issue with fighting games these days. They are fast and require split second timing. They are perfect for playing in the same room on the same machine as someone else. I played fighting games so much when I was younger and had a few mates to play them with regularly. I have never played one online that felt right at all. They all have one or more of the following:
• Terrible input lag
• Massive slow down to compensate for the lag
• uneven matchmaking
• SLOW matchmaking to the point it takes over 3 times as long as a match would last just to get a game
• Trophies that encourage people to quit so they don't technically lose a match and you don't get a win.

Its just not the same. However MK and DoA both have great offline content so both were worth the purchase for me. All fighting games should have story modes like theirs.

edit: also as much as people give grief over the character models I honestly could care. Once its zoomed out and the fight is happening it looks decent enough and I dont notice it at all. It runs at 60 fps and thats what matters.

Dynasty Warriors Next - There's a trophy for getting marriage pacts with your officers. Haven't gotten any yet though. Backlog game.

Riviera - You probably mean the GBA version (the DS never got a port, I think). The PSP version has better graphics but it's still based on the GBA version so you'll see the same content essentially.

NLKS - I've only rescued the first princess so haven't seen the romance stuff yet but I heard it's part of the game. Yes, the story's nice for what it is. So despite the shaky framerate (that only occurs in certain situations) I don't regret buying it at all. But it's been stuck in my backlog for some time now...might thaw it out after I finish Atelier Totori.

EDIT: Just remembered..romance also plays a part in how you manage your units in NLKS. If you keep pairing up the same (opposite sex) units on missions they eventually fall in love and get married. How that impacts the game I have yet to discover though. ;)

It's a really good strategy game. It's different because it's a mix of turn based JRPG system and strategy, leaning towards turn based. Plus the story is pretty good and far from cringeworthy. It's like a spiritual successor to Suikoden.

hmm. was thinking of LEGO but heard it's better played on Co-op

Well, Lego Batman Vita only supports local coop, but I think that is not a real option for a lot of people. I'd suggest saving your money for a future purchase.

I wish Knights in the Nightmare were in the EU Store, I could import the NDS version but is absurdly expensive now :/

been playing a lot of front mission 3 & ZHP

radsauce

I am now playing my second playthrough in Tactics Ogre LUCT, awesome game. After taking a rest of the genre, I am thinking to get Front Mission 3, I blame Pacific Rim for that.

I'm playing Rogue Legacy on my PC and it would be so suited for Vita.
Someone already tweeted Shahid about this, right?

Im sure its come up. In general almost all these kinds of indie games would be best on Vita for me.

Laptop for LoL
Desktop for AAA movie type games
Vita for Indie
Nexus for strategy.

Unfortunately not all indie games come out on Vita (although thats changing) and not all stratagy games come out for Nexus.
