Fighting Games Weekly | July 15-21 | Post-EVO Pillow Talk

Damn, people going in on Rich for his name during the KI presentation. I mean, I could see why a layman could make the connection, but there isn't one at all since he's had the name for years and it sucks that he has to be dragged into the whole Xbox One debate cause Rich is an awesome dude.

I'm glad I play the PC version of SFIV because every stage is 60fps anywhere anytime. It just really sucks for spectating purposes. Also, hearing that training music is brutal.

Not for all tournaments, but I'd love something like CEO or UFGT to have the PC version of some games and have fun non-gameplay affecting mods like music, stages and costumes. Dreamcast MvC2 with custom music was the shit, stuff like that needs to be brought back and tournaments like CEO and UFGT would be fitting.

I would die of joy and hilarity if Triforce got a job as a Nintendo Smash community manager or something.

What do Smash players think of Triforce? I mean, I know what most of the FGC thinks but whenever I see Triforce stuff outside of FGC (Nintendo or retro game stuff), non-FGC people seem to have a positive perception of the guy.

I wonder if the stages will transition. I doubt it. If so, will we get multiple versions of each? Very curious, as several of those stages change significantly throughout a bout.

I'd rather have a low res static background where nothing changes or moves. I'd laugh my ass off

Twice Justin got that Zero to pixel health.

It's probably that 30k they added to him lol

I hope that patient play is something more players pick up on. It shouldn't be something exclusive to grand finals at EVO.

Watching Angelic do 3 randumb chaotic flames made me wish he never got anywhere near top 8.

Would be impossible for all the setups, but it'd be cool if the stream station on stage was running the PC version.

Akuma assist sucks for Dormammu.

"Hey Mr. Reggie, that power glove guy wants to talk to you again"
"Oh no.....again?! It's the 10th time he calls me this week...tell him I'm sick and couldn't make it to work"

That's probably one of the hardest things to learn in a game where blocking is a potential death sentence.
Well said.

Hey, random Chaotic Flame is a viable tactic! :-P

I just can't see Evo growing next year as well.
This year got a huge influx thanks to Super Smash Bros, but there's really nothing they can do to attract an entirely different audience again.

Without the publicity of the Breast Cancer Research Drive (even if they do it again next year, since Super Smash Bros will probably be a part of the main lineup, I doubt it'll get much hype), and Nintendo's stupidity, I don't think stream viewers will jump up either.

Nah, it wasn't just smashers, KOF hit 90,000 and you could say they were waiting for Smash, that hit 135,000, but with Injustice it went down back to 100,000. Then during Marvel time the numbers slowly grew back to hit 145,000 during GF (and it wasn't because smashers came back), then it went back down to 100,000 before AE and it stabilized around 120,000. Last year SF at that time was 75,000. There was an influx of new casual viewers, around 50,000 more than last year and I think the reason is because streaming is general is getting bigger.

Also, the top 8 for Melee at Evo was good, but not GREAT. If Melee caught your eye on Sunday, I definitely recommend checking out the top 8 at Apex 2013 and Apex 2012.

I agree, Top 8 had too many one-sided matches, pools were better.

Right, but I doubt it would've exploded as much if all those big media sites were not reporting on Nintendo's stupidity or the Breast Cancer Research Drive.
Awareness was raised for the event from those events, and I don't see that happening next year.

I'm not saying it'll decline necessarily, I just don't think it'll see as huge a boom as it did this year, and probably more along the lines of 2011 to 2012.

Infiltration didn't play any worse. He dissembled Daigo the same way as their previous two encounters. His adaptation to Sako's Ibuki was amazing. He just was matched up this year to people who could beat him, and that's how tournaments go.

Yeah, Infiltration played as well as anyone on Sunday. He took out Daigo, Sako, and PR Rog. He just had to run through too many killers. He's not the champion because of that loss to Rog on Friday.

Him beating Rog made me salty. Rog legit had his number but he lost because he was playing to sporadic and fell for every one of Hakan's gimmicks as a result. Genius move by infiltration to take advantage of that but you can't help but feel Rog left something on the table.

Oh, and seriously people, Shinsyn didn't give Mr. Wizard and Idolm@ster body pillow.
It was from Sword Art Online.

At least Idolmaster was good. Meanwhile, aw heck, Firehawk put it best.

Fuck Japan award: Sword Art Online. This is the worst show ever to have been produced by a culture. Take the solipsism of The Newsroom, the depravity of K-Town or any other reality show of that ilk, and the sad humanity exhibited exhibited in shows like Honey Boo Boo and you'd STILL get a show that is morally, ethically, and spiritually more justifiable than Sword Art Online. The bar has been set so low that I can even see merit in a show like OniAi. Fuck you SAO... just fuck you.

To him, there is a certain way that Street Fighter should be played. He could play Akuma in a style similar to Infiltration and it would get him tournament victories, but he feels it wouldn't benefit him in the long-run.
Yeah I mean, I know everyone jumped on Seth for going on about this during the matches (and yes Daigo lost (again) to Infiltration, who clearly has his number)... but the thing is what they say is somewhat true because at the end of the day it's always about Daigo. He breeds that kind of following and aura, whereas Infiltration, while clearly being acknowledged as the best player right now, with the most comprehensive technical knowledge of the game and execution, breeds a lot of resentment. People wanted badly to beat Daigo before, but I never felt there was resentment about his style of play and how he dominated.

That was one of the most dramatic matches I ever saw. I couldn't believe that Infiltration, down 2-1, top 8 in EVO, unleashed the HAKAN!! Never expected it in such a huge spot.

Ran into Daigo at the airport on the way home. Had a short chat with him. He said he had a hangover, lol. Chill guy.

Hey, I still haven't seen the AE top 8. Can someone please pm me a link to the archive? I'm trying to avoid spoilers so I'm not going to check back in here. Thanks!

Hahahaha what the hell? I don't even know how I would react if I was there playing Melee and saw my opponent was Taylor fuckin' Hicks.
