Pacific Rim |OT| Apocalypse Never

Loved the movie, but couldn't quite commit to picking up either of these at the screening.
They are more expensive than I'd like, but I know given their quality it's to be expected. I do appreciate this one being more of a landscape picture/poster. It contributes a lot to the depicted scene, and you don't get many posters in this format.

Shipping was *gasp!* $35 to Canada, though. Still, $80 for a limited print [of this movie, no less!] it's a horrible price to pay. I'm more than willing.

I'm surprised to see the Regular still being offered, I didn't particularly like the contrast of the Variant. Maybe the "limited to 75" thing was more an incentive? I don't know, but I'm happy I have the Regular. :)

Edit - Now Sold Out.

One thing that surprised me and was cool was that everything I had thought the film would be about was packed into the first five minutes. Film hit the ground running.

Definitely my favorite thing about it. This really feels like Pacific Rim 2, with all the origin bullshit out of the way.

I don't know why I haven't used the Jaeger designer yet...

Enjoyed it from start to finish. PR is a Robots vs Monsters movie, and it doesn't try to be anything more than that.

I probably won't buy the movie on blu-ray, but I might take the lady to watch it this weekend.

I am definitely starting to think I am one of the only people alive who found this movie to be pretty mediocre.

eh, it's a movie made for the anime-loving crowd, and for gamers who are hardcore enough to post on forums.....AND it has GAF's favorite Idris Elba.

The love it gets here is of no surprise.

Can't sit down at my desk anymore without first initiating a mini-skirmish between my PR figs. Knifehead be ornery.
I hope we someday get a PR prequel so
we can finally see Crimson Typhoon and Cherno Alpha fuck up some kaiju
.

Probably my biggest disappointment with the movie, although
their destruction
did admittedly up the tension and drama.

There's actually a ton of room. Del Toro in a recent interview even mentioned an interesting direction for a sequel to take, plus other Jeegers he wanted to use...

End spoilers!

He stated that now the Kaiju Masters have remnants of a Jaeger... Human tech... which means... FUCKING MECHA-KAIJU. Plus, Matador Fury must have her day.
That name does not fit the Mexican Jaeger. but I wanna see it anyway!

My only complaint was the contrived way they shut down the Jaeger program. "It's just not worked...' Then damn near the next scene a Jaeger beats the shit out of the hammer head wall buster. "We still feel that the Life wall is our best option..."

If it was some political money thing they needed to explain that better. Otherwise I think it just felt like a reason to have limited and old model Jaegers for suspense and plot points.

Saw this on Friday with friends, it was basically a live action anime done right. Story was right up there with most shounen anime plots, same with the characters, but it was still fun.

First though I had was seeing the yellow liquid inside the helmets and thinking LCL from Evangelion, the drop sequence was like in Xenogears and then having two pilots for the jaeger was Gurren Lagann...

It was just a fun popcorn movie about giant robots and monsters duking it out. Loved every moment of it.

Watched the movie yesterday.
I think I hyped the movie way too much for myself.

The fighting scenes were excellent,
and the special effects were awesome for those scenes.

Though a lot of the indoor scenes with people looked really green screenish,
Like the production value on those scenes looked made for TV...

All Idris love aside, I really did like him a lot in this movie. Probably my favorite role he's played so far, although his Heimdal was awesome, we just needed more of him.

I was just reading the wiki it says an hour of various character's backstory was cut from the film!? Sweet lord.

Yeah, they had to cut PR down a bit for release. I'm hoping we see a director's cut or special edition down the road.

It was the fact that they once had 30+ Yaegers and were down to 3 active ones and the Kaiju were coming faster than new Jaegers could be built.

Was it just me or did Mako look an awful lot like Gally/Alita? Not just in the shiny black pilot suit (which I thought was very motorball), but when she was in the complex in plain clothes.

Searched but didn't find this so:

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Why not just use missiles and nukes?

Conventional weapons such as bullets, missiles, tanked proved too weak. It took too long (6 days) to take down the first Kaiju, and we had to resort to nuking it in the middle of San Francisco. Goodbye SF.

After three to four of these attacks we built the first Jaeger to confront the Kaiju as a defensive line. To cut them off and kill them.

Surely it would take more than six days to R&D, build, prototype, test, then put in production even one Jaeger? I guess the movie explains this as well?

Super hyped for the movie; can't wait for its release over here!

They killed the first one with a nuke after 6 days. It took a year and half (from K-Day) to get the first Yaeger running.

Read it again. It took six days to kill them with conventional weapons, so they resorted to nukes. After that they were attacked 3-4 more times, THEN they built the first Jaeger, which took them a year.

The attacks started out much further apart then they happen in the movie.

Yeah, the first few scenes go over how the program started, and things like the frequency of the attacks. The movie also takes place years into the war already. I could give you more info, but it would be small spoilers. The movie does an OK job setting that up.

this didnt do much for me

the beginning was cool but the fights get tiresome long before the movie is over

script full of cliches and bland characters

going to the movie is expensive these days.. fucking $16 a ticket

Just got back from watching the movie. Fantastic. It perfectly does all of the usual archetypes/tropes you see in anime/kaiju films and just nails it for a western film. The writing was pretty solid too. The writing wasn't too cheesy and didn't get overly complicated either which is a plus. The cast of characters follow their archetypes pretty well but a lot of crispy dialogue basically setups their characters well and they kind of make fun of it a little too.

Cast was really solid but Idris and Rinko were the big highlights. it was pretty much their show in a lot of regards with Riley (I guess that's his name?) being the viewpoint we kind of see it from. Rinko in particular was awesome. I love her expressions and how she reacts to a lot of the things going on. That really made up for her lack of dialogue throughout the film. Thanks to that, it's hard to take my eyes off her during the film. <3 That's what really makes Japanese actresses much more beautiful than actual looks, expressions and all that.Too bad Japanese culture is awful about that.

Biggest problem with the film is the overall story is somewhat lacking. It's a bit truncated and doesn't set everything up to be as interesting as it could've. It works as a vehicle for the action bthough, I guess. They managed to answer most of the questions you'd really need to enjoy the film.

Is that Japan or something gathered together from 2ch posts?

2ch posts. And maybe the backroom feelings of entertainers over there. Most don't have what it takes to really make the jump overseas anyway, so there's probably a bit of jealous somewhere there. Kikuchi's a pretty solid actress and honestly, far better than most of her contemporaries when looking at what it takes to get it done outside of Japan.

The main character in the Battle Angel/Gunnm series.

There were a few scenes in I think the 3rd or 4th volume where she was in plain clothes. Mako looks very similar during scenes in the complex.

Let's see how long these images last:

When Mako was in the pilot suit it really reminded me of the motorball body:

Yes. I think she's meant to invoke the image of Alita or a similar heroine, yeah. Particularly the hairstyle and choice in casting Rinko, aside from her being a little more visible than other Japanese actresses.

Ok yeah I can see it.

I read somewhere that an hour of footage got cut and that it mostly dealt with background character development. I guess we're not going to see that.

Well, we are at least getting some deleted scenes. It also depends on when it was cut, so if it is footage with no effects in, it can't be included in a new cut of the movie anyways.

I loved this shot in the trailers but wasn't sure if it would be just as awesome during the movie. It totally was. Probably my favorite shot.

Always trust the Guillermos!

Never mind. I thought Fosdike's print was the last by Odd City, but apparently they have one more.

Regular Edition [$55, limited to 175 pieces]:

Variant Edition [$85, limited to 75 pieces]:

Eh, it's a good thing I'm not liking this one. Something about the eyes in the background bother me. I know they're supposed to be Kaiju, but they seem awfully...human.

It's an easy pass for me [which is good for my wallet].

well i have done my part in the resistance, i have now seen the movie 3 times and going on my last bomb run the with co-workers this friday. i have dragged everyone that i can so i am happy and they are too!
