I had the stupidest grin on my face the entire movie. Like, goddamn, I must have looked like a moron.

The script is total bullshit but damn was it hype as fuck.

Same here, it was a film full of pure enjoyment and it was exactly what I wanted from that kind of film.

I loved the cheesy dialogue, it fit so well with the overall direction of the film.

What is up with so many professional reviewers mispronouncing "Jaeger". Nearly all of the televised reviews I've seen pronounce it as "Jay-ger". How would they come up with that? It's spoken more than it's spelled in the movie, and they say it so many times I don't know how you'd miss it.

Piloted by a brooding couple who appear from the aether just when things are going terribly wrong. Anime hair, super reflective glasses & zippers/belts all up in this cockpit. And of course they disappear after the fight so nobody truly knows who they are or where they come from.

Did I mention brooding? Oh so much brooding. They're edgy and cool.

The asymmetrical shoulder armors got me, lol

Its not all that bad apparently:
"WB waged an aggressive last-minute marketing effort, and the studio's president of domestic distribution Dan Fellman says it paid off.
"Two weeks ago, we were looking at an opening of $25 million to $30 million," he said. "This result is just what we've hoped for. There's nobody that doesn't like this movie, and it's Guillermo's biggest opening to date. Now, our job is to broaden the base."
Fellman said the studio will accomplish this by airing ads that tout reviews and the audience CinemaScore.
IMAX theaters -- the favored venue for fanboys -- ponied up a robust $7.3 million in Pacific Rim ticket sales. In another sign that fanboys turned out in force, more than 50 percent of the overall gross came from 3D screens, a record for the summer.
Younger moviegoers made up the biggest percentage of the audience for Pacific Rim, with 47 percent of those buying tickets under the age of 25 and 67 percent under the age of 35.
...
So far internationally, the tentpole is outpacing a slew of films that went on to gross between $300 million and $400 million overseas, including Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Clash of the Titans and Prometheus. It's also pacing on par with World War Z, which has earned more than $200 million to date at the foreign box office.
Korea leads with $9.6 million, followed by Russia with $9.3 million. Mexico opened with $5.3 million, three times bigger than any of del Toro's previous films. On Monday, Pacific Rim is expected to surpass the lifetime gross of Pan's Labyrinth ($5.8 million).
Pacific Rim only opened in 50 percent of the foreign marketplace and still has a number of major markets in which to open, including France, Germany, China, Spain and Brazil."

Excellent news indeed!!! I've seen it twice already and it looks like I'm going to see it a third time again as well.

My work colleagues bought me the NECA Crimson Typhoon to say thanks for a project I've been leading on. They all know what a massive dork I am lol.

It's pretty awesome! Going to get Gipsy Danger and Knifehead as well I think...

I kept hearing Jeff Goldblum saying, "Um, now, you do eventually plan to have monsters and giant robots in your monsters vs giant robots movie, right? Hello?"

This made me laugh. I think what there was was enough to buoy the movie up to satisfactory standards, but more would have certainly helped.

Worth it imo, I just need Striker and Gypsy V2 now.

Wish some company would make a few of the pilots at like 2-3 inches,
I would display a few with their Jaegers.

Made this avatar while working on mine,
Striker-Eur-Avatar_zpsdf7931fc.png

anyone can take it if there isn't someone already using a similar one.

You guys are on drugs.

Excellent news. Thanks man.

This is going to do gangbusters overseas.

Minimal plot gets out of the way of the action.

I usually complain about this. But robots.

Thank you.
I thought as much but was a bit confused.

Pretty much we just have NECA making the toys and Sideshow doing the Knifehead statue correct?

Yeah I hope they replenish those figures. I went to hunt one down on sunday at a toy r us and then come home to find the inflated price on amazon and out of stock everywhere. :( I need you Gypsy!

I really need to go see this again. I told my wife that it felt like a "thrill ride at an amusement park" when we were leaving the theater yesterday.

It got to here more than she'll admit. She was watching Daimos and Voltes V episodes for most of last night. Series she grew up with. Her sister was telling me about the t-shirts and posters my wife had as a kid and how obsessed she was. Wow, I guess you learn something new every day.

But yeah, I was one of those idiots with a huge grin the entire time. I felt like that wide-eyed 7 year old watching Transformers the Movie again. I hope Pacific Rim does well enough that we see a "Matrix" effect with more mecha themed movies and video games in the west as a result.

Yes! Excellent news, this movie deserves all the success in the world.

Yeah, I've definitely noticed some price inflation. I got all mine for ~$20, but I've seen them selling for as much as $35.

After I saw this movie I was so amped up I felt like I needed to go take a walk. I needed to have a moment to myself and reset cause I had just been rocked so hard. Felt the same way after the Spartacus finale. Man, so great.

Also I talked the gf into seeing it and she freakin loved it, she was all giddy after it was over. That was awesome because she is a major girly girl and normally doesn't get involved in my nerd outs.

I tried to convince my dad to go to the movies yesterday, but he's the kind of guy who doesn't like going to theaters much. :( I'll definitely get him when we go to Mexico though. I'll also make sure to take my whole extended family with me. We'll cancel the bomba together!

In other news, I can't stop buying the Heroclix. I got three
Raiju
already, but I want Striker Eureka and that awesome Gypsy Danger one.
