NeoGAF Drawing-a-Day Thread

day41mgy42.jpg

another quick one (with better camera quality for once!)

I have literally never drawn anything in my life, but I'm looking to start here pretty soon. Out of school right now and bored out of my mind, so I figured I'd put my spare time to good use. Is it okay to post boring shit like "how to draw a circle" and "shading for babbys" here?

of course

This thread re-sparked something in me, so I decided to join in! Haven't drawn in donkeys, but here's my first attempt at a random character lol. Hoping by the end of this challenge I can scrub up a bit again and maybe even do some proper digital stuff. Photo taken on my phone, cba to scan it in lol.

Day 1, about 20 mins. Black ink pen on paper.

day 22, ~25min.

Your style is getting much more slick and clean over time. I like the progress I'm seeing.

About 7 hours or so maybe with this one, I think I need to start taking this timing thing more seriously.

I can't wait for the end of these commissions. I'll probably upload the finished result in Art's n Farts as it will have been more than one day by then.

Daler and Rowney A3 sketch book. Mech pencil.

Partial colors, plotting out patterns and color combinations. Time around 15 minutes to fix lines so the fill tool can work properly.

Dude that's looks absolutely amazing. The video of the process was pretty fascinating to watch. It looks something that could be in a video game. I wouldn't be surprised if you're an environmental artist or some kind of professional artist. I need to practice drawing environments. If you come to the GAF meet up this Sunday, I'll buy you a beer.

This page is very good. Great job you guys!

I was debating whether or not I should post this since I don't really like to put things I'm not satisfied with online, but I think I could use some general critique:

Time: ~1 hour for Sketch; ~2 hours for painting
Programs: SAI and Photoshop

I intended the full painting to feel a little "loose", and I like that I gave it a soft, water color-like feeling. I want to master that style for use with traditional animation.

My obstacle right now is just consistency. I included the second picture to show just how large the disparity between my sketches and digital work is. Ultimately though, it's just practice, and this thread seems like a good motivation to keep at it. I've noticed almost a 200% increase in my ability from using the red pencil and drawing weekly. I can't promise a new one a day, but I'll keep sketching her.

Day 6! Visiting my brother I watched him play some of Parasite Eve… Didn't bring my tablet, so this is just pencil.

I don’t know anything about the game, so my only reference here was the super low res in-game model and vague recollection of some official (PE2?) art, lol.

Is there any tablet that can be used efficiently for drawing? Such as a Nexus/Note/Ipad, along with a digitizer sPen?

Or would it be really bad pressure/sensitivity?

I believe the Samsung Galaxy Note phone and tablets have Wacom technology, so they could theoretically be used, though you might opt for the tablet due to it having a larger screen. There's a new one coming out soon if you're interested. Could act very much like a Cintax.

On a side note, this page is insane.

I love love love these.

And this one, just immense. The lighting, colours, use of strokes etc.

And and JuJu, really liking your style too. Wish you'd finished the cyborg dude above though! Curious to see his facial design!

I don't know what's going on but I just can't draw today.

I know that feel all too well. I'll draw kinda okay in the morning, do shitty in the afternoon, and then bang up a masterpiece towards the evening. I really don't understand it and it's frustrating to say the least.

I'm working on a simple environment study I should have up in a few hours.

Wow thanks. Ever since I discovered SAI, my ol' bamboo has been seeing more love. A lot of artists will say that it's not the tech/medium that defines you (and that's usually the case), but I don't think I'd have been made aware of what I could do had I not been exposed to SAI. Photoshop really wasn't doing it for me :/

Haven't had the time to draw much but here is another face.

This one was great. Why do I feel like I know this person?

I finally figured out how to use my tablet. The first drawing was under an hour, but the second was probably closer to two or three. I haven't really figured out how to color either, but I thought I'd give it a go.

I've been following this thread for a while, loving a lot of the work in here!

It looks like Michael Madsen, and he's awesome.
