I'm kind of glad there isn't a THF class since all it was in FFXI was just proc Treasure Hunter or other niche things.

It seems like this time they are trying to make all the classes useful.

By the way, Scholar is essentially a White Mage styled Summoner? What separates from it White Mage?

I have a question about the preorder bonus code. I live in Europe and preordered the game from zavvi.com(only 14 pounds + 0.99 shipping). I already paid my order with paypal and I didn't get any code. Does anybody know if zavvi is a participating retailer? If not maybe I should cancel the preorder and get it digitally from amazon.com(shouldn't be any issues installing the EU client with it). If anybody could shed some light on this issue I would appreciate it very much. Thank you in advance!

Scholar focuses on healing over time (like strong Regen-type spells) and White Mage is more healing "nukes". Though we really know next to nothing about Arcanist and it's Jobs besides their basic concepts.

From what I can tell, it looks like White Mage will excel at singular healing whereas Scholar's Fairy will be useful for full party healing and probably regen.

They can't use 'all' cross class skills, only 2 classes specifically defined by the job.

Basically, as far as I understand it.

If you're a tank, say a GLD, you can use other Tank class job skills, plus some skills from another job. In this case, some healer skills such as Cure, Raise, etc.

If you're a DPS, say Lancer, you can use other DPS job skills, such as Archer skills.

And etc etc, and so on and so forth.

Really, you're just leveling a class, with Jobs being specific specializations within the class. GLD's being Tanks the specialize in Defense, MRD's being Tanks that specialize in bursts of offense, etc etc.

At this this is my understanding of it. I only had limited time to play around with leveling multiple jobs during the last two phases of the beta.

So what seems to be the most popular classes so far?

The way this game is set up, players are eventually going to be able to fill any role their party needs. Players will hit the level cap, and in addition to sideways stat building, they'll quickly start leveling up other jobs as well. It won't be long before most players are built up enough to fill numerous roles.

For example, if you're a Gladiator, eventually you're going to want to level up a Conjurer, to have access to their cross class skills. However, once you have Conjurer jobs leveled up, you're probably going to be tempted to level up another corresponding job, since it'll benefit the conjurer.

The way this game is set up, to take full advantage of one job, you have to level several, and over time that snow balls into essentially leveling up everything you possibly have time for.

So reaching the level cap in one job, is really just the very beginning of the game. It also makes, "popular jobs," rather moot.

Yeah, so I should have known better than to trust zavvi with a preorder I actually want on time. They have no early access code and the release date is somehow 22 November 2013. Canceled the preorder and got my code from shopto after committing to buy. With the code safely tucked away I finally have some peace of mind but srsly lol at zavvi.

Outdated info. Pug is no longer linked to Dragoon.

Something else to mention is that all jobs also get a second class they can pull skills from aside from the 1 that needs to be at 15. So that means a job has all the skills of the primary class it is based on, and the sharable skills from 2 other classes.

Yeah, is MRD. I was stuck with the 1.0 requeriments.

I've had my preorder with them since 2 months ago, how do you exactly commit to buy? I haven't gotten the code yet. Just checked and the game is still there in my preorders menu.

That post kinda explained why it wasn't there in the first place...

Ah. I'll admit i just glanced at the post, it was kinda late. :P

Catperson? There aren't really enough classes to make a distinction yet I don't think.

Speaking of c@s, what's up with them? They weren't so popular in XI, and now i can't move 5 steps without running into some cat-person. It's like half of the server is made by them.

Hmm, where would you say at the five most likely places people will purchase FFXIV online? Amazon, GameStop, Zavvi, Greenmangaming BestBuy...?

Amazon.co.uk ran out of their preorder allocation for the PC CE and are only taking preorders for the other 3 skus.

GAME have the same prices as Amazon, which for the CE are actually cheaper than the every other place (besides Amazon).

ShopTo have the cheapest PC standard edition.

Searched the thread and couldn't find an answer (it's probably there, but my coffee hasn't kicked in yet):

Any word on UI scaling for PC?

At 1440p, things like the mini-map in the upper right are completely worthless when they are so small at that rez. Not only that, but my HP/MP/TP bar is too small and I'd frequently miss that I was low on health, leading to unnecessary deaths. Really need to be able to scale those up.

Minagawa wrote a few posts about UI scaling on the Beta Forums yesterday. Look at the dev tracker for the full story (with screenshots), but in Beta 4 you'll be able to scale your UI elements up to 120%, with more options coming after launch.

Now in ARR there's not only female Miqo'tes like in 1.0, but male ones, which also happen to be a new, so there's more people prone to choose them.

I would assume you have to pay them before they ship your copy. There is an option to pay upfront with PayPal or your credit card if you look up your order in the Pre-Orders section.

Certainly your coffee hasn't kicked at all yet, since that information is on this same page,

The site says: "PLEASE NOTE: Pre-paying for your preorder does not constitute confirmation of contract"

Oh nvm, there's actually an option that says Activate, after selecting that option it says I cannot cancel the order now and the code appears there together with the website where you apply it (or put the email for SE to contact you before the early start).

Well, I prepaid with paypal and there should be a green button in your preorder tab with "Activate code" written on it, you can't rly miss it. And when you click on it, it warns you that you are commiting to buy and can no longer cancel the preorder. Hope that helps :)

edit: Glad you got your code :). I'm putting myself in cryosleep, see you all when phase 4 begins xD

I presume for Phase 4 they will unlock the ability to remove pieces of the UI altogether. The option is already there. There is certainly a few things I wouldn't mind getting rid of. (Also, for fun, I want to recreate the FFXI UI.)

Legacy server pro #42: There won't be too many Miqo'te males.

A LOT of my friends wanted to be mithras back in the ffxi days, a quarter of them went with female mithras and the rest never did because they wanted to play as male, so now that xiv added male cat people, the rest of them switched to catdudes from humes.

I'm thinking of going lalafell this time.

I think you are forgetting that after launch will be possible to change your old character: appearance, race, sex, name, everything basically. So We still don't know.

Also, I want to get rid of the inventory thingy, and the gil. Everything else is alright, but I do want to resize many things.

The idea of it sounds cool, but I wonder how it would function in a group though. Something like that will be extremely difficult to balance.

Ever play WoW? I'm guessing it'll be something in-line with rogue (stealth ahead and sap a target for crowd control) or hunters with their traps, based on his comments. Nothing that hasn't been done before, and done well.

Is there anywhere to see this? Even with the change I would think that many of these things are still likely to make an appearance eventually.

This was waaaaay before jobs were even an idea, so you can see Bard and Samurai as Classes. Note that Sentinel did indeed existed in 1.0 for a while (it was a secondary class that you leveled when you equipped a shield. You gained skills from it, independently of the main class used (so GLD, THM and CNJ did have shield skills if they had one equpped), but was remove when all the shield skills were given to Gladiator.
There were even descriptions of some of their abilities. For example, Tanaka's Arcanist wasn't a summoner. It was a trap setting job, that created AOE effects around objects dropped in the ground by the ACN (a bit like the new Geomancer from FFXI).

I've been always curious about their other supposed DOL class, Shepard, and how would it have worked. In one of the old Coerthas villages (Owl's Nest, i believe), you could even see a house with what seemed the supposed symbol of this class (two antler's horns, drawn in the same style as all the classes symbols in the game) near the door.

so has there been any new info regarding DRK or and how it will maybe implemented? i could see it stemming off MRD and was wondering if they might change the quest to becoming a PLD around to maybe.....accommodate that or something. like at the end of the quest you choose, light or dark. PLD or DRK.

i think it would be neat.

In ARR some quests levequests require you to weaken an enemy and then /soothe him. Wouldn't it be interesting to have a gathering class that has attacking abilities to weaken an enemy and then after /soothing them or any other special action, they could be able to get their hide, or horn or something like that, without actually killing them. Specially since drop rates for mats are actually so low, these would make the Shepards able to gather 1-2 hides from a monster all the time.

And since Yoshida doesn't want crafters or gatherers getting mixed with the combat classes, then a requirement for a Shepard would be that use an ability when the mob HP is at 100% and it blocks anyone else from hitting that mob, even if they are in the same party.

Yoshida gave an example of DRK coming from GLA and being a complete opposite from PLD even though they would share the base abilities, but what he was trying to explain was how the class system is not the end all, be all. And that those defensive abilities could change into offensive abilities if the DRK stone were equipped.

Still he was just giving an example about how more Jobs could come of existing classes without being the same as the current Jobs. Let me find the interview.

Ok found it:

Question: Will you make the second jobs very different from their class or first job? For example, the Dark Knight is a very aggressive job and since you seem to want it to become the second Gladiator job (This has never been confirmed but since Yoshi-P always uses it as an example, you never know... ), don't you think Gladiator's abilities are in contradiction with his style?

Naoki Yoshida: I see what you mean. We created the system, but we do not necessarily need to follow it all the time. For example, let’s say that the Dark Knight is the second Gladiator job (attention, it is still not a confirmation), when you get its job stone at level 30, all acquired Gladiator skills will certainly be modified to better fit the image of the Dark Knight.

It was just to give an example to explain that we are not going to destroy how players consider different classes / jobs. It could be an interesting way to introduce future classes / jobs. We will consider your concerns on this issue, rest assured. This should make things more interesting, don't you think?

Man, Diabolos on XI was the complete opposite of whatever server you were on during FFXI. Everywhere I looked I seen Mithras.

Again on this topic, but specifically talking about FFXIV 1.0. The site XIVPADS polled about 49k characters that were active by the end of version 1.0, they also counted how many characters were there from each race:

Hyur 32% - Miqo'te 26% - Lalafell 20% - Elezen 15% - Roegadyn 6%

So the "cat" race has always been one of the most popular ones in both FFXI and XIV 1.0, and now with the male counterpart, it won't be strange if they become the most popular race on ARR.

All the annoying people will be lalafells. ;)

Fixed.

Damn, and that's without male counterpart....

...but male Miqo'te looks soo cool....I can't resist.

I was going Elezen, but male elezen sucks...and I'm not going female.

I was going to do a Hyur male midlander first, but the very disappointing char creator changed my mind. I couldn't do a character to my liking.
Locking facial features to different faces is absurd and bad.

So I'm going to roll a lalafell instead(lol character).

I don't know what you mean, but there will be anew character creator(and also benchmark) released on August 1st, you can save your desired appearance and use it when the OB goes live a week later or so.

If they change it, I might consider it. But phase 3 beta char creator was limited.

4 faces, facial features locked to different faces.

it won't be strange if they become the most popular race on ARR.

I predict this happening. The Miqo'te male posture and mannerisms are part of what makes them so appealing as an alternative to the Hyur male without looking very different. The Miqo'te are all around the best looking race.

Fixed.

wish i could play long elves. but that neck......and the running animation is nothing special either. they should make them more fun.

I don't know why but I hate the way male Miqote stand.

And I hate the way female Miqote jump.

But everything else is fine.

I would make Hyur but even the smallest looks big compared to Miqote and it makes me feel weird.

Lalas are too small and it makes some equipment design harder to appreciate.

Edit:
I don't like the way they stand, seem very arrogant to me.
It's like they're standing there looking for a fight.
This is why
