Saw it last night. It was good. I had issues following the action scenes though. It was hard to make out the kaiju silhouettes during the big action scenes. Maybe I'm just getting old. Anyone else know what I'm talking about?

:D

catered to the 10 year old in me. predictable plot, but good cgi and action sequences. acting is on the lower end of average.

Saw it a second time yesterday, still great and I actually noticed more details the second time around. Regular viewing this time without IMAX or 3D. I think it's one of the only movies where I preferred the 3D version.

Also Regal finally got back to me about the posters from the premiere show and are supposedly sending some. If your theater didn't have any when you went to the premier you may try contacting them if you still have your ticket receipt handy.

The sad thing is that I have noticed the same but it's not happening at the box office. I expected Sunday to overperform because of it, nope. I expected a small drop on Monday, nope exact opposite. with 3 new movies opening this week, I think it's going to be bad.

Its has been guaranteed 3-4 more weeks in IMAX so that will help offset other movies biting it due to the higher ticket price.

The upside is if people enjoy it they will buy the home video which earns the studio a lot more money since the split is much more favorable then a theater.

Definitely, day 1 3d bluray for me. Come on overseas market save the day!

I figure this has to be bound to get a Blu-Ray release around the holidays, right? It seems like the sort of movie that's going to make a killing on those sort of sales.

From my understanding movie studios get almost all of the money during the first weeks run of a movie. The theaters dont make any money on the tickets until 4 weeks or so later. Thats why concessions are so high.

That much is guaranteed. I'm surprised it's not up for preorder already like Man of Steel and other recent summer films.

Just got back from watching it. Amazing! Action packed, imaginative works. Loved it.

I don't want a sequel. I want a prequel.

What a trashy letdown of a movie. The pacing, acting, and the motives of the characters are all wrong.

Ok, so the main character, Raleeg Bickit, loses his brother at the beginning of the movie in the most hilarious fashion. Then he has to "find himself" in the first half of the movie by showing him, down and lost, working on the wall. We aren't even given enough time to really see this point of the character develop.

The army is so unbelievably stupid here. Why would they not build a defense perimeter around where the dimensional gate was located? You know, have a sustainable defense set up. Instead they let the monsters come out and are given free reign to go where they please.

The big moment where Raleeg dons the mech again was completely buchered and anti-climatic.

Why did the mech unit stop receiving funding for a wall that doesn't work? LOL

The main villains are incredibly one dimensional. No character development at all.

So these mech drivers are supposed to be good, heroic fighters meant to fight the monsters and save the people? Reeeallly, because all I saw was the mech punching through buildings, and attacking the monster around the general populace. Did the mech drivers even make an effort to move the fight from the city to a barren location, like the ocean? Did they even attempt to save anyone in the city? How many deaths were there in the city caused just by the mech himself? And we are somehow supposed to root for them? LOL

It seemed like every character including the main character was half baked, the plot was by the numbers, the villain sucked, and there was no sense of fun in the movie. Even the action was just shit blowing up, it wasn't exciting. There was no "fuck yeah" moment. Hell even the fight vs The category 5 monster was... I didn't feel the tension, which is why the outcome was felt so flat.

They weren't kidding when they called Leatherback a hefty chunk of plastic, although he looks pretty tiny next to that awesome 18 inch Gipsy Danger. Hopefully Leatherback will have both hinge and swivels for the elbow.

Did we even see the same movie?
There is one fight that happens in city limits. Every other fight happens on the coastline. That's what the Jaegers are there for, to fight and destroy the Kaiju before they stomp through and obliterate half a city. That's what we see at the beginning of the movie when Gipsy's near Alaska, that's what we see when Crimson, Striker, and Cherno try to stop Otachi and Leatherback from reaching Hong Kong. The reason Gipsy had to fight Otachi there in the first place was that the other three Jaegers failed at stopping her from reaching the city; they tried to fight her in the ocean and got their asses kicked. As for attempting to get Otachi out of the middle of the city, how do you suggest getting a 2,500 ton monster that wants to stay in the middle of the city out of the middle of the city?

Even with one fight happening in the middle of the city, casualties were minimized because everybody had run into underground bunkers like a 50's nuclear test. Nobody was in those buildings, and unlike some movies, we actually did see an explanation for why.

Your point about the villains being one-dimensional is particularly silly; it's a fucking monster movie. Are you going to complain about the alien or Bruce the shark being one-dimensional?

I'm not sure you even saw this movie and you're not basing your points on complaints in the spoiler thread.

Um, wow, did we even see the same movie? I pretty much disagree on all of your points, and it seems like you completely missed certain details of the story.

Serious question, were you texting or talking to someone else during the movie, and like not paying attention?

Ahhh - I hate that I feel compelled to respond to this nonsense. I really shouldn't do this to myself, but, here goes.

Oooh, you mispelled Raleigh's name! You sure got me steamed!

Set up a building site around an area under constant attack...in the middle of the ocean...genius.

Missed the part where they evacuated all the citizens to shelters, huh? You remember those other 3 fights that all take place in the ocean, right? Of course not. Too busy thinking up your gem of a post to actually pay attention.

I'm sorry the movie didn't live up to your expectations. In my experience movies tend to be much better when you don't go into them thinking about how much you're going to hate it, and how cool you'll look hating on it on the internet.

This has to be one of the finest movie intro I have seen, haha. The music paced with the visual worked so very well until the "PACIFIC RIM" logo appeared. Furthermore, it sums up pretty much exactly what this movie is going to be about too. Awesome popcorn movie :O

If there is a Youtube of that intro... I'll say wow !

I actually meant the whole part where the first brothers were suiting up for their battle and then the activation of their robot. The music and visual was synchronized very well in that part :) but yeah, that main intro thing and end titles were really cool too.

You're right. Instead incorrectly getting mad at the movie's plot, maybe I should have payed attention. Furthermore, I now realize I went into the movie wanting to hate it because I knew it wouldn't fit my 1, very focused idea of what a mech movie should be. I should judge it on it's own merits. I now realize that I can't over analyze (often times incorrectly) every little element of the movie to justify my ignorant opinion of it. I feel a little stupid for thinking that if I went against the norm, it would somehow make me feel like I was above the general mass audience that enjoyed this film.

Wow. I feel great. I think I will go watch Man of Steel now.

I just purchased my tickets to [finally] see Pacific Rim tomorrow in IMAX 3D [real IMAX, not "LieMAX"]. I already have plans to see it a second time with my sister in the next few weeks, and if I enjoy it as much as I think I will, I'll probably go a third time too.

I'm excited.

What should a mech movie be in your view? (I don't intend to argue your views, I'm just genuinely curious)

Hah, judging from your criticisms of Pacific Rim, you are absolutely going to hate Man of Steel! :)

This post is really disarming. Kudos.

I believe it is $85. Leatherback looks great, like a big gorilla.
I kinda hope his head tentacles have a gimmicky glow-in-the-dark-style paint.

I actually agree with you on at least one of your points.
Raleigh needed an actual character arc involving his brother's death.

Wow. I feel great. I think I will go watch Man of Steel now.
Well, your comment about them destroying cities and killing civies makes more sense now. Well trolled.

That's a shame. Was looking for some viewpoints on this movie by someone who didn't think this didn't live up as a giant robot movie. Again, not that I'd agree with them, just curious.

Just got back. It's was pretty good.

I'll focus on the negative.

In terms of the plot it was mad predictable. Every moment in terms of characters was obvious. Also a lot of details were rushed. Still everyone played their roles. Also a bit letdown by the number of fights.

But dat ones fight yo.

Boat swords motherfucker.

Very enjoyable movie. Also best 3D I have seen a while.

It wasn't perfect but I really liked it.

Shit might watch some gundam or some shit
