Awwwww yeahhhh...

Crabs were picked in FFXI because they were pretty harmless. No terrible AoEs, no huge single target TP moves. High defense, but easy to dispel. Anything else was a pain in the ass. Flies? AoE. Spiders? Sickle Slash. Crawlers? Slow. Vultures? Helldive. Goblins? Bombs. Beastmen? Variety of annoying shit. Manticores? Nope. List went on and on.

Don't forget Mandies with Dream Flower! And Colibris' TP erasure and stick-my-beak-down-your-throat-to-eat-your-food abilities.

Fuck subligar, seriously LOL. I could not take my character seriously while he had that shit on. They look like dirty underpants.

Here's my Roegadyn F from Beta Phase 3:

Not sure how she look slike a dog, but hey... different strokes for different folks I suppose.

Eh, I love stealth and its a ton of fun in pvp. However, in raids its practically useless.

It lead to much of my fun too, only problem is 95% of the fun I had with Stealth was on a PvP server, and very rarely had anything to do with actual dungeon content or raids. Considering this game won't have open world PvP (that I know of), stealth wouldn't be nearly as fun as it could be.

Didn't play on pvp servers. Raiding isn't the only part of the game. There were times where they tried to make stealth useful in raiding, but normally ended up being hated parts. I may have raided for years 5 days a week, but that was because I liked the people I was with. Parts of the game I really loved was world exploration and leveling content. Loved being able to just stealth though elite areas and dungeons and just watch the mobs. Or take another rogue and kill things we shouldn't be able to. Stealth being an instant toggleable skill with no time limit was the best part of the feel of it. Not some shitty spell that you need to cast and can wear off, or an item that you used. A core part of the class you played.

Anyway, think I've gone too far off on a tangent here that is in no way related to this game.

did anyone have any good experiences on ps3 beta in phase 3? Was weighing options for platform couldn't get into beta -_-

Not bad at all. A slight server lag, but nothing that hurts the gameplay. The gamepad controls do have a bit of a learning curve, but once you get a feel for it, it's pretty damn intuitive.

That is a huge sigh of relief right now lol would like new pc build but yeah wedding and all to save for, best to get the ps3 version if it's not all that bad. PS3 keypad good with it or better to just hook up a usb keyboard?

The graphics-end obviously doesn't stack up to PC, but I gave it a shot for the last day of phase 3 and thought it felt really good for what it is. The control scheme is very solid, and there are enough customization options for targeting that I felt pretty comfortable once I got used to it.

That being said, I didn't get into any serious group play, so I can't say whether the controller becomes a hindrance as you acquire more skills or need to act fast under pressure.

Worked out fine for XI.
I agree...but for whatever reason it doesn't feel right to me in the FFXIV cutscenes and story so far. Maybe it's because the Galka had sort of a deep backstory to them. Hopefully we'll get some more of that kind of stuff for FFXIV before release. Also, ironically the missing tail makes them feel more disconnected to me. I guess it helped to define them as more than just a comically big dude. The Sea Wolves seem like they're going to get there, but I guess I just don't know enough (or see enough) Hellsguard for them to feel like they belong as part of the lore yet.

Still not sure, it'll be between one of the Hyur clans and Hellsguard. Will probably end up on Hellsguard regardless of story immersion, because if I actually end up spending a long time on this game (i.e. if it matters) I'll eventually care more about how fun the character is to use than the story.

Outfit looks alright I dunno but I'm ok with Lightning in XIV. I really want to see what Snows outfit is gonna look like on the lalafells.

never mind here is an image with them all

I've leveled off all those, heh. Too bad the game devolved into using level sync to fight nothing but colibri (and probably something else with abyssea by the time I quit). You were never fighting crabs to that point. A large part of my fun with leveling new jobs was finding rare camps. Discovered a few for myself. Mhaura > Selbina.

Poor Lightning. She's a fan-service doll now.

I REALLY want them to add a Counter trait/ability to PGL/MNK.

It would be nice to have but after doing a ton of dungeons I realized that it would just be more skills you'd never use. I relocated haymaker from my hotkeys because with all the mobs targeting the tank, it never got triggered in dungeons.

OMG Lalafells and Galka best races confirmed. These make those costumes ballin'. Galka Snow looks like he is about to mug a fool and Lightning Lala looks so adorable it almost makes me want to say "fuck it" and roll one.

Oh yeah, Haymaker basically IS Counter. Since Counter was just a proc off one of several outcomes of an attack, Haymaker is essentially the same. Just an active ability. Now, if FFXI Counter added Slow? Damn...

This is likely the design I'll be using for my secondary character. I'm a little annoyed I couldn't get the cheekbones to be more pronounced like my male Roe (my main character, legacy).

That looks great! Like her facial expression on 1st pic, looks badass
I might create fem roe for my tank character

You know what costume I want for this game? Auron! Release it with Samurai job.

This game already has a Summoner class, so Yuna's original FFX costume should be next.

Once Musketeer gets in, Gunner Yuna's costume should be in right away too.

There is a LNC attack that inflicts Slow.

And not only does the game borrow a lot of model/style from XI, but many the mob attacks are the same name or references.

I actually chuckled when I saw that crabs use "Little Claw" now.

You know what costume I want for this game? Auron! Release it with Samurai job and I'll subscribe forever.

OMG that would be awesome having that costume as AF and having the giant katanas that Auron uses instead of the ones that are in FFXI would be superb.

I doubt it would happen unfortunately.

Oh, you'll get your Noctis costume and instanced fight alongside XV's release.

I think it would be cool to have dungeons based on all previous FF titles' final dungeons -- some spacetime continuum ripping apart something or another.

This is my character from beta. Funny how my final class, let alone look of the character won't actually look anything like this but I am happy with this a fair bit. I'm going to try to make my own rendition of Izana... that's my own rendition of Noctis. :P

I don't mind the costumes for players to get but...

GTFO of my Eorzea :(

No, it is NOT essentially the same. Haymaker consumes your GCD in ARR meaning you have to consider its use over maintaining your normal combo rotations. Frankly the skill is too weak to be good for party settings.

I relocated haymaker from my hotkeys because with all the mobs targeting the tank, it never got triggered in dungeons.

I keep it on my bar because it's a good skill for soloing or lowmanning things. It's a potent attack for low TP cost that does full damage when hitting from any direction and the slow is OK (but nothing amazing since anything you're fighting without a tank is probably going to die pretty quickly anyway). I'm pretty sure that in later dungeons we'll be seeing things like circular melee attacks (there are already 180 degree cleaves on those suits of armor guys) and dodging those kinds of attacks should also trigger Haymaker.

Speaking of recycling mobs, I was looking through the FFXII bestiary, and it looked to me like the Mantis and Serpent models were taken from that game. And the Mirrorknight too of course.

There is a mini boss Fire Elemental in Halitali called Firemane. There is a boss with the same name in FFXII. I wonder if the elemental we fought in Phase 3 was a placeholder because the creature hadn't been added to FFXIV yet.

And it looks like Rogue Tomato and the other Mandragora variants from FFXII will be making an appearance in FFXIV as well.

Needs a darker outfit. :P

But pretty good try on the face/hair. xD

i came in to ask, how is this game on ps3? I loved playing everquest online adventures on ps2 and i dabbled with ff11 on 360 but it was too much of a hassle to find parties to play with...

is it worth getting for ps3 and then getting it for ps4 later? Or should I just wait?

My thoughts as well.

Counter, in prior FF' operates as an offensive defense, and in ARR, should be separate from GCD, so as to allow you to continue applying Greased Lightning's. In XI it essentially allowed MNK to tank. While they don't have to make it as potent, I think the ability itself warrants inclusion and adds a bit of flexibility to the job.

How long is the beta? Im thinking about signing up, but I have never played a FF game before and Im afraid it's going to feel too complex for me to ever get in and keep playing.
