I aw it for my second time last night in IMAX, I loved it just as much as the first.

Going again this weekend to see it a third time. I can't get enough of this movie...

I believe that's a fairly old interview that was more along the lines of what he would like to do in a sequel if one were to get made and not any sort of confirmation of it actually happening.

There's more detail to be shown if it's up close. GDT said the reason why he kept the camera close was to portray just how big these machines and monsters really were, filming them far off would have diminished the scale and made them look normal sized. The fight scenes are well shot imo and best of all they don't have the shaky cam so you can see things. I couldn't see shit in Robot vs Robot fights in Transformers because of just how shaky it was and how fast everything moved.

I don't get this line of thinking. If anything, wide shots give a better sense of scale, as they establish that the giant mechs and monsters are as large as the buildings around them. When the camera is zoomed in at shoulder level, you could just be looking at a couple of action figures. You don't get any contrast with their surroundings. Also, I think the tight shots, along with the constant rain, water, and darkness, made the action scenes difficult to process. Just my opinion though. Maybe I would've liked the fight scenes more if I hadn't watched the movie in 3D.

Woot, got Crimson Typhoon today after watching the movie a second time. Wave 1 complete!

Wooow!!! I just came home from the theater!! I had soooo much fun!! ;D Oh, boy, that was some seriously cool, summer Anime/Kaiju/Super Robot blockbuster. If you like Neo Genesis Evangelion and Godzilla or just big huge monsters in general, this movie is definitely for you.

So much freaking fun.

I am definitely going to watch the movie again in a couple of days! ^^

Didn't expect to be so disappointed with this movie but I unfortunately was.

Looked forward to seeing much clearer action than the blur fest of transformers but instead found too much of the action taking place in dark, busy environments (so many neon lights!) and fast cutting with the camera in close made it work for me to figure out what was going on. The brief daylight fight was great and would've loved more of that.

Better than transformers action though not by as much as I expected.

The story was serviceable but the robots other than the main characters' (with the male leads monotonous delivery of every line!) didn't even get to shine anywhere near as much as they should have.

The monster designs were quite boring and generic for the most part too, I felt. After Del Toro talked about the pop idol process they went through I expected something more unique/different rather then what we got.

And next time, they need to learn how to market a movie to general audiences.

Has the sequel been definitely confirmed?

Yeah something tells me the 3x rule does not really apply to this movie, the marketing was in no way on par with MoS or even Lone Ranger. There are still people I talk to who did not even know it came out, even on a super advertised bomba that would not happen.

Its not a case of people just saying it was bad or ignoring it, people don't even realize its out from what I have seen.

While it being dark wasn't really an issue for me, I would have still preferred, and a little ( very small) disappointed we didn't see more daytime battles, like that small part were we see Striker
protecting Australia
in the news was so good to see.

The fights were very easy to follow though, which is what makes it so good too.

LET'S DO THIS YO

Also, goddamnit Warner Brothers! I'm chomping at the bit for Pacific Rim merchandise! Do better!

I saw those stuff on Yetee earlier, and while they're cool, they aren't the ones I want! The Kaiju Hunter one by the artist who did Apocalypse Canceled is eons better. COUGHTHATONEUP

whoooop whooooop

I've seen it once at IMAX in 3D, then 2D on a smaller (though still quite large) screen, and found the action wonderfully shot on both occasions. I attribute a lot of my enjoyment to this fact.

Same but the sound was so much better in IMAX it wasn't even comparable.

I'll probably see it one more time in IMAX 3D before it leaves for good.

IMAX 3D was absolutely amazing for this movie. During some of the fights, I was actually saying holy shit out loud. Really glad I got to see this during its theatrical run on a massive screen.

FUCK YEAH!
I really dredd the possibility of there not being a sequel.

I see what you did there.

There's a video on fxguide detailing some of the ILM VFX pipeline for the film:

http://www.fxguide.com/fxguidetv/fxguidetv-175-pacific-rim-pipeline-special/

We visit ILM to discuss the Pacific Rim production pipeline with John Knoll, Eddie Pasquarello, Lindy De Quattro and Hal Hickel. The pipeline uses NUKE, Houdini, KATANA, Modo, Alembic, Arnold/RenderMan and ILM’s 3D and fluid destruction and muscle sim tools.

Vid is over 30 min! Haven't watched it fully yet, but I wouldn't be surprised if there were spoilers for those who haven't seen it yet.

Looks like PacRim took over 500 TB of disk space. Some shots took a couple of weeks to render out completely.

there is a god afterall!

Saw the movie for the 6th time yesterday with a friend who hasn't seen it. I will probably watch it one or two more times in theaters but I will walk out during the middle part and go drink some coffee.

The first thing I'm gonna do when I get the 3D Blu-ray is rip it on my PC and cut out the middle part. My very own director's cut that only includes the awesome fighting scenes. Can't get enough of them.

I liked the slower middle part on my first viewing but it is annoying and boring on repeated viewings.

I loved this movie! Visually stunning, story is entertaining and fun to follow!
G.I. Joe 2 should have been way more like this movie!

Well if you see a movie six times in such a short period things tend to get boring.

After reading del Toro's ideas for a sequel, I am so goddamn hype. I initially thought the obvious route and possible cash-grab of the Kaiju just coming back was too simple, and my friend had the thematically contradictory and severely out-of-character idea of the different countries fighting each other with the Jaeger as standard war machines, but del Toro knows what's up and I can't wait to see that on screen.

It's still the most boring part if the movie, even on the first viewing. Not that it was particularly bad, I was just very aware that I was having to wait for the action to come back in. If I do see it again (which I might) and absolutely have to use the bathroom, I'll do I during the training sequence of the test scene.

Also, a lot of the acting was laughably bad, especially at the beginning. Though I did like Idris Elba's authority speech, despite the obvious joke at the start.

Movie was fucking fun. I had a huge grin on my face during those fight scenes.

Me in the theater a few times:

Went and saw this last night. It was pretty good, but it felt a bit rushed. There was so much more I wanted to know about the state of the earth, Hannibal Chau's past, the Jaegers and the Kaiju, that, because there was only a two hour runtime, wasn't addressed.

It was hysterical how they kept hyping up
the other Jaegers, only for them to prove completely useless and get immediately killed off, leaving Gipsy Danger to basically do everything.
That was definitely a sore spot for me.

This movie did nothing for me and I was really hyped to see it. I came in expecting to see big mechs punching monsters but what I got was 2 hours of cheesy dialogue and bad acting. I understand the movie is MEANT to be cheesy, but it was too much for me. The movie takes itself way too seriously and it just drains the fun away. Also, it was really disappointing that the other mechs just
get killed off so quickly, after so much hype they are just cannon fodder
.

Maybe I'll watch it again when it comes out to DVD/Blu-Ray but I haven't been so disappointed with a movie in a while.
