No way dude.

Yoshida hates the idea of having a godly being submit to a person so he is not making the Primals pets.

Besides there was still the idea of having Primals being summoned by a FC and affect the whole world at the moment they do. Wonder if that's still a thing.

Did Yoshida do FFXI? Wasn't the summoned primal slightly smaller than the boss fights in XI. The XIV design looks dumb, in all the FF games I played all gfs, aeons, what ever they were called were summoned full sized. Except maybe Anima.

He didn't but he did say he didn't like seeing the avatars around like pets.

Well this FF is different, here SMNs aren't powerful enough to keep gods on a leash.

No, Yoshi-P was not involved with XI.

And, yeah, the Avatars in XI were smaller than the Prime versions you fought. But they also kept the Avatars really small by FF standards in order to make that happen.

So I'm fine with Egis because it means that the actual boss versions can be as big and as they should be. Leviathan should be bigger than a boat, not just some floating water snake the height of a Galka.

make some new, non primal, ones like carbuncle then
like ixion or something
at least that's more exciting, imo

They won't.

And I really don't want everyone running around with something the size of actual Primals behind them.
well they can always make it smaller
it's really not that much bigger than diabolos

Is that an Evoker's horn joke?
this is what you actually get in game

The XIV models look better then that diablos model, it is WAY to big and its silly looking to see a bunch of people running around with the same exact summons that are supposed to be the equivalent of a god.

It makes alot more sense to spin it as summoning a portion of each of there power since at least they have alot of power to go around.

Also no summons bigger then a normal character and preferably no bigger then half the size of a normal character, it just causes unneeded strain on the servers / peoples PC's and there's already going to be a crap ton of them since its a new job being added in people are going to flock to. There is a reason alot of MMO games have done what they can to avoid pet classes in general and this is a game that has to run on PS3 as well as PC.

Not to mention if this game intends to have encounter mechanics dependant on avoiding red circles on the ground and lots of mobility, I'd rather not have a bunch of over sized summons add to the clutter around a mob.

I actually thought Diabolos was too big in XI - he'd pop out and I'd have to move my camera just to see the game.
I think it was too big too. But now we have people complaining about the flashiness of the effects and how they couldn't see anything in FATEs or dungeons... and at the same time, people asking for bigger summons. MMOs, it happens ;P

Just like how everyone is complaining that all they do is spam TP skills on melee classes, while simultaneously complaining that they can't do it forever.

Oh man, as a tank, if you are fighting a big boss and happen to have your back against the wall (Ifrit fight for example), where you just see the mob right in front of you, most of the fight you only see all these animations and effects flashing around. It certainly was a little bit too much.

i loved the flashiness of attacks :X
not flashy enough even
still waiting for something akin to death blossom

re: avatar size
didn't play smn so they didn't really obstruct my view
but i did love seeing them getting summoned

As much as I love beautiful SE branded attack/spell effects is a bit too much right now. I mean it gets pretty bad with four people I don't want to think what happens with 8 (or we can just look a FATE...)

Don't remind me... :(

I'm ok with this!

I haven't been following too closely, but do those have a perpetuation cost-thing or do they remain out until dismissed without draining mana?

Ruby and Diamond Carbuncles are an ability, not sure if it has a casting cost as in TP or MP, but that doesn't matter since you can keep them out until it dies, then you have to re-summon it again.

No idea about the Egis or Pixie, I'd assume they're the same.

I agree, I once got pretty close to the mob on a fight as blm... and my first thought while nuking was "man, I'm doing this all the time and the tank doesn't hate me?" Good luck positioning yourself to the flank of the enemy when you only see light.

So yeah, now imagine having a summoner in the party with that Siren around, not even several, just one would be such a pain. Ey, I'm sure the summoner would enjoy it like crazy, but this is not a single player game :P

Seriously, as MRD I felt like I was watching Geometry Wars the MMO. I'm okay with the flashy effects personally but I can see how some people would get distracted by them.

If you can move the camera far from your character then the effects aren't a problem, but there's still those occasions when the camera becomes annoying being next to a wall.

So awesome. Thanks. Seriously pumped for Phase 4.

Guys what's the news on Phase 4. Do you need to re-register or will SE just send me an email with another code come August?

If you had already been accepted for any beta phase previously you'll just receive an email from SE. The client might be on the beta forums again.

To heck with leveling up multiple jobs! After leveling the following in FFXI:

99 DNC
99 SMN
99 RDM
99 PLD
99 BLU
99 COR
99 WHM
99 GEO
99 BST
99 THF
99 NIN
99 SAM

I sure as great moogle chocobo mandragora pants am not doing that again.

I agree if they're permanent summons. However, it would be cool as a limit break to have a really powerful summon for an extremely limited amount of time. It would even make sense in terms of Final Fantasy, since summons typically come out, do a powerful attack, and leave.

Lalafell is the way to go and you know it.

My only complaint is the armor Lala's wear that miss out on the great detail that the taller characters have. I've never really played the small races types before in any MMO but I'm curious to follow the Lalafell way. Though I'm still set on Elezens.

So I heard it is easier to reach cap in FFXI now than it was to get Maat cap in the pre-ToAU times. Am I right?

It's definitely a lot easier to level now, but leveling is still a time consuming process.

I played from 2008-2013, in which, I am done with FFXI. I actually didn't leave because of any particular reason, just there wasn't much for me to do in it anymore. I achieved all the voidwatch gear I wanted and leveling GEO up to 99 felt kind of pointless without the artifact or empyrean armor, and with the class being lackluster, it was just disappointing.

Actually, the main reason I can think of is that FFXIV is pretty dang good from when I tried it out in Phase 2. At the jobs thing, the reason I leveled so many jobs was to fulfill roles since the character balance in FFXI is awful, and most jobs only fulfill niche roles while basic classes like WAR, WHM, and etc are overall just better and diverse.

When I look at in the classes in FFXIV, I can see a lot more balance, and it just feels much more snappy to play. I love it.

I see that there still must be a lot of effort involved to get to 99 in Abyssea or wherever, but the game pre-ToAU, before 2006 was way slower than what how you met it in 2008, specially for the melee jobs.

Anyway, FFXI aside, you will find out how reaching 50 in ARR is a painless process and you will find out levelling more jobs, also maybe to be able to fulfil more roles, but mainly because it is actually fun to level up a class in ARR.

Also, lv50 will probably be attainable within 2-3 weeks of constant playtime, maybe 4-5 days or less with hardcore playtime.

To be honest, as a legacy player I want the level cap to be raised as soon as possible, it should be around 6 months after launch on the 2.2 update.

Getting to 99 in Abyssea is easy, actually. The bigger issue is leveling skills as a result of that fast climb to 99. That's time-consuming.

Would I be missing out on much if I played this game on PS3? I don't really want to lug out my desktop to play a game that I could play on my already set up console.

So the SMN summons mini dudes? Whelp, sticking with WHM I guess.

Yeah...I don't see how a class about summoning things could possibly be fun if you never get to summon anything exciting.

Would be like making a warrior and never letting him wear armor or use weapons that look intimidating.

Lower graphics, lower screen resolution, low frame rate, inferior control.

You sure you want to play on PS3 if you have the option to play on PC?

Do you guys reckon that the Summoner class is going to be overrepresented in ARR? It struck me that the combination of it being "the" FF class, lots of Legacy players going straight to it and the flashiness of it may add up to a flood of them descending on Eorzea, at least in the beginning.

I would assume most of them are going to it for now as that's the only class they have left to level :P

Don't worry so much though not everyone is too hot on the idea of a dot dps class once they start playing it.

The thing is by levelling Arcanist to 50 you don't only get a Summoner 50, you also get a Scholar 50 by default (and quests, etc).

So I don't think it will be overrepresented, now if you ask about the first 2 weeks (OB and early start to be specific) on a legacy server, you can be certain that 95% of the people will be levelling Arcanist.

the flashy battle effects were terrible. right in your face the entire time while playing a melee class. can't appreciate combat when you get blinded every time you fight.

i think that is my biggest point of criticism so far, right after the delay.
