Big shoutouts to all the attendees and to all the compendium purchasers for making this happen!
Especially mkenyon & dreams-visions for making gaf-swag runs!
Also woot woot gaffers: cyborgmatt, bounchfx(?), and anuxi running the workshop!

See you all next year!

Eternal Envy-sama who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy mouse,
thy mercy come,
thy draft be done,
in matchmaking, as it is in captains.
Give us this day our daily DotA,
and forgive us our inferior tactics,
as we have also forgiven those less skilled.
And lead us not into fanboyism,
but deliver us #TI4.
Amen

FAQ
1. What is the console auto-spectate code - I can't watch games live but want to win sweet tourney items from work?
In the main menu, hit "delete" or "\" to open console,
than copy&paste dota_spectator_auto_spectate_games 65006
Dota 2 should watch every match as they become available all day. Unsure how it will work for the multicast days.
2. Quick! When is the next match?
see above
3. How long is a match?
The drafting/loading stage takes about 10 minutes - the acutal game itself can be 15-90 minutes long. So give or take 25-100 minutes with smoke breaks inbetween.
4. What's a dota?
Dota is quite complicated to explain in a few sentences, please check out the wonderful Dota OT by Artanisix for more information
5. I've never watched dota before - what's the big deal?
-Watch "the play" from TI2012. This is the climax of a game.
-If you want a recap of last year's tournament here is Valve's official video.
-How to have the full The International 3 Experience
6. Should I buy a compendium?
Yes! Support e-sports. $10 gets you a fantastic value: a free courier, free taunts, free immortal item, free HUD, free battle-bonus, and fun mini-games.
7. I'm a total dota noob - can I ask questions here?
Feel free - the dota vets will be happy to answer your questions. The Dota wiki is also a quick reference that even the pros use.
The International for Dummies (youtube)
8. Any storylines to follow?
3-4 Chinese players will be retiring afterwards, including DK's Burning.
Who will win the solo mid and all-star contests?
Who will be the casters of the Grand Finals?
9. Should I enable twitch chat?
No. Kappa.
10. Shoot, I missed the matches where can I watch the games?
Youtube and TwitchTV links will be posted below as they happen - Dota TV in-game are usually available for download 10 minutes after the game ends
Got no time? Check out highlights of the day by DotaCinema
11. Any mobile solutions?
Dota Mobile - a crazy Final Fantasy like real time updater - works in browser too (sample pic)

The 4 Caster teams
1. BeyondtheSuAAAit sample @LDdota and @LuminousInverse are Kickstarter supported pro-casters who cover mostly the Asian scene but have expanded to total international service. They also have a courier who gains views with each match watched. Since neither has pro experience they tend to be the clowniest casters, but they casted the 2012 Grand Finals. Lumi recently gained some huge props by performing Eminem live. They also have fan favorites @MerliniDota and @PurgeGamers and @Blitz_Dota for post-game analysis. #productionvalue

2. JoinDota sample @TobiWanDOTA is one of the oldest and most famous Dota casters, an exciting mix of Aussie twang and classic lines. Tobi casted the 2011 Grand Finals.
@WagaGaming is a Dota pro player without a
team. Or it might be Clairvoyance if Waga didn't catch his flight.

3. Sheevar sample @sheevergaming is one of the few female pro casters, she is independent of the big studios and is known for terrible in-game play
@bdizdota is a pro-doter who throws for EG

4. Team GG sample @ayesee has a deep, smooth radio voice and is a fan favorite for his lovable teddy-bear physique and professional manner
@Draskyl is a former HoN pro player

Really cool, i like inKluding my awesOme, Badass name iN my all my posts dA vinci code wordplay style.

On a more serious note, can't wait, the dota competitive hero pool has never been so diverse, CM balancing is the best it's ever been imo--should be the best TI yet.

Nothing to see here, move along (quite literally, damn that OP)

It'll be my first international, is this where all the teams unleash their super secret strats and meta they worked on all year?

Kinda disappointed with the prize pool allocation, 1.35 million for first doesn't seem like a big increase. I would have prefered to see first take 2 million.

The prize pool is interesting, 2nd place has always been $250 k . For the additional amount via compendium, I was assuming it will be distributed with the same ratio among the top 8.

1st prize gained - $358,686
2nd prize gained - $347,882
3rd gained - $121,737
4th gained - $110,216

Anyway, the 2nd-6th positions become much more rewarding.

what does bottom 8 get?

Nothing.

This is the OP we're getting? That thread title? No pictures for teams or the venue?

C'mon son. It is full of useful links, but it's missing some flair and class.

Criticism aside, I'm hyped! Where are the # team rankings coming from and what happened to the missing teams (#9 #13 #15 #17? Liquipedia doesn't have any and looking at the joindota rankings, they're completely different.

It might not be as flashy in a wow! marketing sense, but from a "fostering esports" perspective, it's always the better play to increase the number of recipients and spread the prize pool more evenly.

wow they sold around 1,1mio Compendiums?
Thats a really smart idea, the bigger the game becomes the bigger will be the prize pool each year.
But from 7,99€ only 2.50$ goes to the prize pool?

what does bottom 8 get?
Prime spectator spots to watch the 8 best teams in the world play, maybe learn something.

Yeah, Valve has a pretty insane margin on that thing.

I hear Statsman Bruno is doing the coding for the fantasy teams on the compendium, so I guess he's now technically working for Valve. :o Thought that was a fun little tidbit.

Subscribed.

Just got into Dota 2, will follow this The International. Wondering if I should get that Compendium thing or if it's a waste for someone like me who doesn't know the teams, players and etc and will purely be watching for the high-stakes high-level gameplay. I do need to start buying some shit from the Dota store soon-ish though, or I'll start feeling guilty for playing such incredible game for free.

Realistically, I can only see LGD.cn, iG, NaVi and Alliance challenging the throne. Orange is the dark horse but someone needs to take out LGD.cn for them.

Well you'll get a bunch of stuff from meeting the milestones (courier, HUD, taunts, immortal item).

Bottom 8 really sucks though.

Yeah that's true. Especially with the size of the prizepool. Could easily have alocated some of the huge prizepool for the rest of the teams in the tournament.

Also not a fan of having prize distributions that are scewed too far towards the top. Having prizepools where the top 1-3 get 90% of the total prizepool is really silly.

Agreed, I'd cap 1st at 1mil and distribute the rest to other spots.
