So what is the picture?
Yes, Phil Fish has bipolar.
and all because of overreacting gamers, such a shame
If he loves games he'll calm down and carry on . I just hope he identifies the problems that make him so upset and angry before coming back.
It'd be a shame for him and the industry for this to truly be it.
I am kind of sincerely worried that the next thing we hear about Phil Fish is that he was found dead in his apartment, though. He says he's leaving video games and in the past he has said that making games is all he's good for.
WowI'll give a polite response if I feel something warrants it, but for the most part, no, I don't. A lot of these people are my customers, and they can think what they want. Far be it from me to criticize them for it.
My first game contains a myriad of pun/jokes, including the following:
Item: Polish Remover
Description:Hitler
A Polish newspaper got wind of this, and ran it along with my website, E-mail address, and Twitter handle. I obviously received hundreds, if not thousands, of hate mail. Even a few phone calls.
I ignored them all.
What was lashing out going to do? What was insulting people going to do? I couldn't change their minds, and they couldn't change mine. I remained silent. It blew over.
PR, man.
I'm happy to see you confirm that you were actively harassing him on twitter through that dumbass justification attempt just now.
You realize software engineering and general design skills are incredibly highly valued in the industry at large? Game programming can be applied and considered "qualification" for 6 figures position at google. It is known as one of the most complicated software work for a reason. He will make far more money in any industry he goes to than he would staying as a game developer.
Wow
I doubt that I will miss you.
Being bipolar doesn't excuse you from your actions, especially if you know you have it (assuming you are not self-diagnosing yourself to appear sympathetic, something attention-seekers love doing). Moreover, you are not entitled to the patience of others and more so of those over the internet. At the end of the day someone going through a manic episode is their own responsibility and they need to handle it like an adult. If that includes quitting twitter, so be it. That is sound advice for everyone who loses their shit on twitter, be it Amanda Bynes or Phil Fish.
This Phil Fish martyr stuff is getting a little crazy, though.
I am very sympathetic to people with mental health issues but ultimately all the rest of us can do is urge them to seek treatment--accommodation does not extent to enabling and at this point anyone covering his story to comment on it is enabling. Thankfully this will be the last thread on the subject we need to have.
Im a little lost...if the verbal abuse was just at the hands of some random people on twitter/other social networks...I cant see that forcing anyone out of anything they like to do.

Congratulations...?
What's great is now it's 100% confirmed that a good chunk of the people in these discussions have been spitting venom on a person with a mental illness.

I posted this in the other thread, but these are some possibly pertinent tidbits from Phil's GAF post history.
On working at Ubisoft:
and all because of overreacting gamers, such a shame
Here's a list of famous people with bipolar disorder. Very few of them tell people to choke on dicks. Why should Phil Fish get a free pass?
I'm lost now, does he actually have a mental disorder? Nothing pops up with Google
Exactly, i feel sorry if he has mental issues but he was a dick to everyone first. No that does not excuse people, but he did this to himself for the most part.
I'll say. If social comments hurt or stress you out THAT much...just close your account and keep on doing what you love.
Oh, I don't doubt a single thing you typed. However, from my understanding he left he industry because of the stress, not because of the pay. Meaning: If he felt stressed out and annoyed as an independent video game developer then I fail to see how working as a software developer for some corporation is less stressful. He will be limited on creative control, he can't set his hours, and in general someone else will be in control of his responsibilities. But maybe that will be the best for him. Maybe being in charge of so much for so long was too much for him.
Hopefully he'll be happier in whatever new line of work he decides to pursue.
Phil Fish said this six years ago, before anyone knew whatever Fez was. Really hope he gets a therapist—that helped me out enormously after I had a depressive episode.Being bipolar doesn't excuse you from your actions, especially if you know you have it (assuming you are not self-diagnosing yourself to appear sympathetic, something attention-seekers love doing). Yes. I think an antisocial asshole like him should focus on working his issues and not be put on a pedestral that will only make him worse.
