Hey i wanted to ask a question about the starting cities. I would like to make limsa my city and the use the grand company there but i want to use a lancer. What i am wondering is if i start in gridania will it affect the story later on? I mean will it have to do with the gridania characters?

I can not say positively no, but from what we know currently it seems that the 3 cities stories converge and become the same exact thing after the first 15 levels. Only thing that seems to be different from what we have seen after that is a few random comments, like the adventurers guild rep in the city you started from will say something about "nice to see you again" or something. The grand company storylines we know nothing about however, and I would guess will be different.
Also, as for picking and playing as the class you want to play first, remember that to get the "job" for lancer, you will need another class at 15. That other class looks like it will be Maruader, so if you start in Limsa as that class, you will be 15 by the time you do the story quest that brings you to the other cities, letting you switch and level them. Just saying.
Hmm, I would prefer if Grand Company storylines/quests were identical to each other because I don't know if I'm going to join the same one as my rl friend. And I'd like to be able to do the same missions with him (assuming they won't be solo-only all the way). In 1.0, weren't the Grand Company quests the same no matter which one you joined?
isnt lancer one of the starting classes?
No. The last few missions were the same but not the rest. Well it's kinda like the separate city quests now. Where you are basically doing the same thing in each city even before they join, but the story behind it is different. All three cities you discover some plot against something city related, protect it, fight masked guy, get sent to cup the balls around the world. So I guess yes no.
Oh, I should have been more specific, I guess. I mainly am talking about quests that would require other people like in 1.0, doing the Ifrit battle. I'm fine if small, soloable quests in between the group quests aren't the same, but it would suck if there were group/party quests (that required dungeons or bosses) were different, so I couldn't take my friend with me from another GC.

The group quests were the same and you could do them with anyone (who was on or had completed the quest). You got a company seal bonus for doing them with a party of all members of your own company. (in 1.x)
Yeah, no idea how they are going to handle that kind of thing, but I would assume the same way as they are in the beta/end of original game. Have the major group quests be common between everything even if the stories are separate, or rather just converge the stories into a choke point for those fights. Who knows though since when picking the grand companies in the beta they made it clear what primals were in each of the areas.
That's awesome, thanks Capell!Stolen from Reddit:

Signing for beta was such a chore, had to get a vpn service to access the forums because
there is an ip block for my region
This is almost the best thread I've seen in the General Discussion on the beta forums:

same here. They block Chinese IP and a lot of service provider in my country borrow Chinese IP so they blocked mine as well.
Hi raven777, I'm from Singapore, are you from HK or Taiwan?
I heard there was going to be an exclusive Chinese server soon, that might solve your problems, but I rather play in an S.E.Asia/Oceania friendly area, as I can better relate to the population.
Japan Ridill ★
Japan Masamune ×
Japan Durandal ★★★
Japan Aegis ×
Japan Gungnir ★★★
★ Relatively Uncrowded ★★ Relatively Crowded ★★★ Crowded × World transfer applications not being accepted.
I was recommended the above, will try Ultros first though
whoa wait what, they block IPs regionally? I have a friend living in Taiwan that might want to join me.
No I am playing from Korea, so I don't really have interest for Chinese version.
The servers you listed above are Japan Legacy servers, just to let you know.
Ultros is great since its GAF server but since you are playing in Asia you have to deal with the ping and time difference.
Only for the beta forum, the actual game has no issue.

That's a pretty nice layoutMy UI.
My UI.
You're going to be needing more than just 2 hotbars, so maybe place one or two on the sides.
Yeah if I need more than two I'll place one vertically on the right side. Worked in WoW!
Also, I'd recommend to place the status icons bar on the bottom, since you might want to keep track of timers or effects, and having to be look up and down between them and the hotbars, might not be that good.
During the past beta I placed that bar just below the hotbars, and it made keeping track of all the effects so much easier.

All right. And Legacy status is for those who actively subbed during 1.0 times right?

Is there no "ability ready!" popup or anything? I really like those, although I've been playing so much League and Dota that I hardly ever look at cooldowns anymore and can just memorize cooldowns.
Got to wait for actually custom UI elements come out for better management of that stuff, since there is some things that you need to keep up that appears as a debuff on the mob, and others that appear on your buffs. Why I kept both next to each other for now.
I want to access the PS3 menu with the PC version.
Any date on phase 4 yet? Codes seem to be going out
Date will be announced on the 8th so phase 4 should start shortly after that. I think those codes have to be registered before the 30th to participate.
Though I'm sure they're going to be giving out tons of free codes like they did toward the end of phase 3.
A wretched hive of scum and villainy.

No one would ever made a Rate my Lala thread, because honestly who cares? :3
The party window doesn't appear if you're solo, so I don't think that's going to be possible. If they let me, I plan on removing the HP/MP/TP bar and just use the party window.
