Yes Railfan is a similar kind of game.

The main difference between Railfan and Densha de Go series is that while the former records a real video of the train course, the latter plays in a full virtual environment.

Both approaches have its advantages and disadvantages.
With the first method you get a perfect image quality and environment, but since the video is pre-recorded it sometimes can go "out-of-sync" if you do not follow the time perfectly.
The Densha de Go method instead has a fully 3D modeled world, so the image fidelity is lower but the interaction-immersion level is much higher.
That 3DS game should be made with the Densha de Go method.

I remember trying Densha de Go Final a few years ago and really liking it.
I was trying to find a copy for myself here in Japan but even second hand they're pretty expensive, $50+. Controllers can reach $200 easily!

Unfortunately the whole "de Go!" series was dropped by Taito with the advent of HD consoles because it became too costly to build HD towns :(
Sorry for the late reply, and thanks for the info. I've never played any of these titles before, but I have to agree that Densha de Go method is definitely better as a game. Still, Railfan is really pretty to look at. It's unfortunate that Taito were acquired by Square Enix... all their franchises are pretty much dead now. :/

Incidentally Taito dropped the series before the S-E acquisition and when they were bought S-E actually tried to revive the genre a little bit by publishing new games/ports on DS, PSP and iOS but they didn't attract much of an audience.

Which is too bad as Train Simulators are almost like a timed puzzle game.

Here's hoping that the SonicPowered game manages to revive interest a bit.

I see, that's really too bad then. I didn't know that they were released on PSP as well, so I Googled and then checked out Amazon Japan. Holy crap @ the prices! :O Densha de Go! Final is 7,000yen though. Would you recommend it to a newbie? Watching the gameplay videos have piqued my interest in this series.

Someone clear my confusion: I thought Orochi 3 came out in America but why are they re-releasing Orochi 2 there? Or is Orochi 3 here Orochi 2 there?

Yeah, Densha de Go games are crazy expensive!
I'm searching for a used copy around here as my budget for final is about 3000 Yen.
No way I can find a new copy that cheap.
I saw Densha de Go 3 for 2000 the other day in Akihabara so I should find it for that price.

I can't say if I would recommend it to someone new in the series as I'm not really an expert, as I said before I just tried Final for a brief period and it seemed a really nice game.

Hmm... OK I guess I'll just pick up Densha de Go! Final when I have some cash to spare. Good luck in your hunt! Hopefully you'll be able to find a copy within your budget. Sorry for going way off-topic, and thanks for replying. :)

That Batman box isn't final. Also, oddly, it doesn't look like the 3DS version is getting a Japanese release.
I have to assume it's yet to be listed on Amazon Japan or something, because why the hell would you skip releasing it on the most popular platform there? Unless Sony paid for an exclusive, but that seems relatively useless for Batman.

I really really hope that picture of Arkham Origins on Vita means that Vita games are finally getting transparent game cases, but I'm just kidding myself.

And I looked up Amazon Japan to try to find the 3DS version of the game, no dice.

What I DID find out was that the Japanese title for the game is "Batman: Arkham Begins," which I can't help but feel is a way better title.

Yeah, I'd like to see more fully transparent cases, especially in case they ever decide to print more reversible/double sided covers in the future... that aren't just used to display warranty/warning garbage (so less Xbox 360/Tales of Xillia USA, more first party Sony/Tales of Xillia JPN.)

Musou Orochi Maou Sairin = Warriors Orochi 2. So when Musou Orochi 2 came out, it became Warriors Orochi 3 elsewhere.

Similarly, the PSX fighter Dynasty Warriors = Sangoku Musou. When it turned into the hack and slash we know the series as today, the first one was called Shin Sangoku Musou, whereas elsewhere it was called Dynasty Warriors 2. Thus every modern game has a DW title with one higher number than it's SSM counterpart title. We will run into a similar problem if they ever make another Hokuto Musou game too.

I'm pretty sure Warner Japan only released the Vita version of Spy Hunter in Japan too.

Although I would only import Japanese versions of games that I like if I had no other choice in which they don't come to America or even Europe, I like Japanese covers of games more so than American covers of certain games, because the American covers look kind of bland compared to the Japanese ones.
