Pacific Rim |OT| Apocalypse Never

Saw it in IMAX 3D, didn't really like it, even though I was pretty hyped beforehand. Robots and monsters fighting was very cool, but almost everything else was, well, mostly boring. Bummer.

The trailers for Elysium and Gravity looked awesome as fuck though.

Can someone give a rundown of all the Anime influences in the film? Like someone said how Hannibal Chow's shoes were a big Anime thing but I've no idea why.

Anyone know of some good Pacific Rim wallpapers out there? I'm ok with some stylized (minimalist is ok) designs, similar to that wicked poster above.

Googling isn't getting me anywhere. :\

LOL. I want to go fishin' (get it :P) for some weirder ones, but I don't know if I'd be able to take it.

I need some advice fellow GAFfers! I just finished this (I'm a t-shirt graphic designer) but I can't think any cool name...what about "Team Danger" ?

eDYPTeE.jpg

I vote for "Drift Compatible" to be the title too!

This is super bad ass but I can't help but be bugged that the silhouettes are Mako and Raleigh, but the Kaiju they're fighting is Knifehead. :(

What program did you use, Illustrator?

Jesus, any Pacific Rim merch just immediately flies off the shelf, doesn't it?

I fucking hate mondo. They're already sold out! What a shitty business model: for sale for two minutes and then you have to pay a ridiculous markup on eBay to the assholes who just camp on the site hitting F5 all day. At least with the 24 hour shirt sites you have a goddamn chance to get what you want.

Yeah, I really liked this about Teefury/Yettee. I didn't get the Yettee ones (not my style), but when Teefury got two awesome designs at once, including one from the designer who made one of the Yettee shirts (The Kaiju Hunter one, AKA the one I wanted the most), I was in.

This is why I love them.

That and the cool art.

I just came from my 2nd show, this time only in 3D digital. :/ I really missed the Imax screen. I may go one more time next week to watch it on IMAX 3D, it completely worth it the first time.

I love all their prints but have the same issue, I stopped trying a long time ago. Sucks to be super hyped for something. Get the tweet and try to add it to my cart and check out while the site crashes and 2 minutes later its gone and I have no chance.

Saw the movie for the second time today. This is the first time ever that I've seen any movie mor than once in theatres.

I went to a different theatre than the first time, and felt the 3D was tons better than the first time. Less blurry, for some reason. Maybe the first time the projector wasn't calibrated properly or something, I don't know.

But yeah, still fucking awesome.
Hong Kong
is leaps better than anything else in the movie.

That's because anything else in the movie (aside from the final action scene) kinda sucks. That whole middle bit between the awesome intro and Hong Kong is so boring.

Mondo sucks balls. I've given up buying from them. Let the scalpers enjoy the riches.

Hey thanks for the support guys!!

I'll upload the design to my redbubble store,I'm waiting for a teefury response too so you can have the t-shirt for 11$ instead the 20$ of redbubble.

Crossing fingers!!

fxguide did a podcast on Pacific Rim. They are critical of the movie as a whole, especially the host, and the ending effects scenes, but they offer a lot of insight into the effects in the movie.

There are spoilers in the episode: http://www.fxguide.com/podcasts/

fake edit: it isn't showing up on their site, but it is in their podcast rss feed since I just finished listening to it.

They've had extensive coverage of the film:

Of all the AMCs in New York City, only one budged and gave up the IMAX 3D slot to World War Z. Every other one has still got Pacific Rim on their IMAX 3D screens.

Welp, I know what I'm doing on this cloudy, almost-about-to-be-rainy Saturday morning! Didn't catch the movie ever since that screening, time to remedy that!!

Finally got to see this in Imax 3d. Movie was good fun. A little short on acting and plot, but those are secondary in this experience lol.

My wife hated it. My kids will love it.

...So I'm going to see this again as a pre-birthday gift to myself.

For the third time.

I wanted to see it at Movie Tavern (the premium theater with the great food and such), but they pulled it early :(

Does anyone have an idea when the Blu-ray will drop?

I found out that World War Z releases in little over a month, and that had the same theatre release window as Pacific Rim.

It would be awesome it this was out in a month or two.

There's been a trend in the last couple years to rush certain movies out to DVD/Blu-ray not too long after their theatrical runs. I think it's pretty awesome. We should probably expect PR to come out around Thanksgiving if I had to guess.

I saw this movie last Tuesday and I am itching to go see it again real bad. It was so good.

And the triple-punch of Idris Elba, Charlie Hunman and that young fauxstralian guy left me incredibly moist.
