Until Friday?

http://www.theverge.com/2013/7/29/4...n-encore-on-the-imax-screen-for-one-week-only

I'm still debating whether I want to spend the money to see it in IMAX this week. It's so expensive :x

I saw it in NYC last night, IMAX 3d, 23.50. Absurd.

Just watched it, style over substance.

The only good scene was the little girl flashback.

The acting is poor, but really who cares,it's a science fiction movie about monsters. How much substance do you really need?

This is awesome.

I don't understand. Here's a great looking movie that pays homage to a genre that Japan practically created, with awesome looking giant robots to boot, and starring a Japanese actress in a prominent role. The potential to for the movie to be a success over here seems huge and so - nothing.

They don't really care for the genre they practically created anymore. That's why there hasn't been a new Godzilla in almost 10 years. That's why there hasn't been a new Gamera in 6 years. Kaiju eiga is dead in Japan, and they don't care.

Received the Neko action figure of Gipsy Danger. I'm pretty amazed at how well sculpted it is. The paint job is great too.

I know nothing of action figures [I never buy those but I gladly made an exeption for this], but the overall quality is tons and tons better than the action figures from when I was a kid back in the eighties/early nineties.

Cool stuff, I'll maybe even get Crimson Typhoon as well.

Crimson Typhoon is actually really cool with its 3rd arm and ability to bend backwards like in the movie.

I just came back from the movie.
Man what an awesome ride, even my gf who doesn't like kaiju movies thought it was good.
Day 1 blu ray :)

Holy shit.

What an amazing movie. Easily the best I've seen in a while. First time I haven't slept in the theatre this year.

what movies did you saw?

I haven't seen much in the cinema that I can remember. Fast 6 was pretty good now that I recall. The Die Hard film put me to sleep, This is The End had some sleep worthy moments and I can't even remember the other stuff I watched.

Pacific Rim had amazingly well shot action with awesome monsters and robots. Sure there were some tropes/cliches but the action and Charlie Day made up for it.

edit: World War Z was decent but still had slow points where I slept in.

This is a recent trend. A while ago I would never sleep in movies. I'm not sure if I'm developing a problem or if I care so little for so many movies that I find it hard to stay awake

Dunno why they mentioned it opening in Spain and Japan today, I thought it opens in those areas next week.

Saw it a few hours back. Bloody loved it, such a fun and enjoyable experience- I had a huge grin across my face throughout the film.

What are the chances of a director's cut for the Blu Ray release? I hear there was an hours worth of deleted scenes with extended character arcs?!

I finally saw it last night, and loved it. Loved loved it.

I'm gonna try to see it in theaters again before it's out, and I just want to go out and buy all the stuff I can- art book, soundtrack, action figures. It was like a big screen love note to my childhood, and I want more dammit!

Just got back from seeing it. Wow! Just wow! It promised awesome fights between giant robots and kaiju, and boy did it deliver. I'm already considering if I want to go see it again, and I'm definitely going to get the Blu-Ray when it's out.

Awesome movie, this is how an action movie should be.

EDIT: The effects in this movie were spectacular, too. Punching a giant monster in the face with a giant robot should feel heavy, and that it does. I think the sound design team needs partial credit for that, too.

Just saw this. Was one dimensional, but the execution delivered. Fantastic movie. The best part was the one where the robots fought monsters.

Has this movie the best CGI? It looked so awesome

a lot of it had to do with there being some real weight being thrown around. i knew it was cg, but it didn't feel like that's what i was watching. lots of other cg looks like slapstick in a way. i also think it was a supremely smart decision to build an intricate set for the cockpit, and to actually show the mechanics of the jaegers as things are hooking together or about to deliver an attack. it went a long way to making it seem real.

Just finished my 3rd viewing, using a D-Box seat. Even on the highest setting, sitting in that was so silly. At least I got a 2-hour massage out of it

I need some advice fellow GAFfers! I just finished this (I'm a t-shirt graphic designer) but I can't think any cool name...what about "Team Danger" ?

Sweet Poster!

Anyway, it doesn't mean that they actively hate the genre or something. The factor that Hollywood made a film like that might give them some kind of gratification.

The other problem is that they can get their Kaiju-fix with shows like Ultraman and Super Sentai for free on TV.

That's amazing.

I've been listening to the soundtrack, and two names I thought of after seeing that are "2500 Tons of Awesome" and "To Fight Monsters, We Created Monsters."

holy fucking shit where can i buy this

Got my IMAX 3D tickets ready for tomorrow afternoon (China). They are pre-selling the tickets days beforehand and from what I can see, majority of the IMAX 3D shows are sold out.

Gonna smoke a J before watching this, and I'm expecting to be blown away!

Dang it was awesome, was all jacked up on adrenaline after seeing it, went to the late show and couldn't sleep for a couple hours afterwards, excited like a little kid.

Think I'm going to see it again with the mrs this time.

The pace was crazy, there were a couple scenes where when they were over I really went "oompf" :lol

One of my friends hated it for the "bad" acting and cheese, need to adjust your expectations when going to a Gundam vs Godzilla movie mang.
