Super Smash Bros Wii U and 3DS: Info Collection - Dojo, Mega Man and Trailer! 2014!

So, what does everyone think about some old mechanics/items returning?

For instance, the warp pipe mechanic from the mushroom kingdom stage in the original SSB, the old screw attack, (where you could throw it in addition to jumping with it.), the , crate creatures, and some things like the old Ness home run bat reflector.

As far as items go, in the jump between melee and brawl we lost:

Barrel Cannon
Cloaking Device
Flipper
Parasol
Red Shell

And these were probably some of the more unique items as well. They also were much more balanced than the Brawl item strategy of "EVERYTHING IS A NUKE!"

Didn't add a Kid Icarus representative simply because I didn't play Uprising, so I don't quite have the means to know who'd fit better in smash.
Das ok. I would highly recommend playing it though.

Speaking of which, I remember when I saw the first Brawl trailer and I had no idea who Pit or what Kid Icarus was and I thought to myself "what who wants this crap in Smash", and now I want like 4 KI reps in this next game. Amazing how one incredibly well-made game can change my perspective.

I plan to, as soon as I buy a 3DS...

I honestly hope we lose a lot of the brawl items, especially the ones that seem to not be from a specific game series. Smoke bomb, spiny thing, soccer ball, they just didn't seem that great to me.

Sega made a three Sonic game Wii U exclusive deal with Nintendo. I really doubt he's being left out of the next Smash. Snake has had very little to do with Nintendo in the last few years, though, and Raiden was in PS All-Stars, so I could see that franchise not appearing this time.

I know if it was a Namco guest, we'd get Pac-Man. But I wish it'd be Klonoa.

As for the Star Fox reps, to be honest I'm in the camp of thinking that some neat combat things could be done with Krystal, and a lot of people just hate her because of the internet crap. And I like how Wolf played in Brawl. Honestly, the one I wish would go away, that I feel just eats up a slot is Falco. I know he's not a straight Fox clone, but he brings so little new to the table. If they do have him back, I'd hope they'd at least radically reinvent him. But then people will fuss about him not matching previous games.

Raiden in allstars only gives more prescedence to snake being in smash

Edit: I also agree with you with starfox, minus taking falco, nobody has given me a legit reason why they hate krystal other than the hate for the furry fandom or using her as something to direct hate to for advetures and assault

I have faith that sonic shall return no problem. Snake...meh couldn't care less if he's in or not.

I wouldn't miss his overpowered attacks :P

ah! I was hoping we'd talk about roster ideas soon!

Here's an addition I've been thinking about for a little while now that I don't think many in this thread have talked about yet...
I, for one, would be fantastically pleased if they added
Slimetime_zpsa19afd2c.jpg

This little guy!

There's been a bit of a discussion about who would represent Square Enix if SE were to allow a character into Smash bros. and, although I do love Mario RPG and Final Fantasy, I think that a Dragon Quest rep. would be more successful than Geno or... I dunno, Cloud? Black Mage? Who-ever the popular FF character is!
Nintendo has been holding Dragon Quest's hand lately and have been real buddy-buddy when it comes to localisation in west and, try as they might, DQ just can't seem to be a huge, huge success over here. I reckon this is a real shame because the games are good and there's so much charm!
I reckon a Slime character from the series would be the best rep. figuring it's already been in a Nintendo character cross-over game (along with FF characters) and is the face of the whole series (we're talking Pikachu level mascotism over here!) and would be a hoot to play as! Lots of potential could go into the development of this little ball.

It would be a wonderfully vivifying stroke if Nintendo and Square Enix were to allow something, anything, from Dragon Quest into SSB4. And if they choose to make it a playable character, whatever it is, it would allow a whole slew of established items, characters, and places from the series to be in there, too! Iconic for the east, but new and exciting for lots of us in the west!
(not to mention if a DQ character *does* get in than maybe square-enix would be nice enough to reference RPG and let Geno in too!)
As a cameo Assist Trophy, lol.

As for moveset and final smash and all that good stuff... well I reckon the little dude's attacks would be elasticity based. I'm thinking a Rocket Slime kinda vibe would fit well in Smash. His final smash could be a tank or a pirate ship from the DS games *or* a combining act with dozens of other slimes to make the giant Slime "Ultrus" ala gigabowser, y'know?
With a character so old and played around, really, you could design it pretty well anyway you want.

Or that they don't think Playstation All Stars are worthy enough for Snake to be in.

Keep Wolf and get rid of Falco.

Absolutely NO. I loathe the concept for Slime to be playable character in Smash Bros.

Both Falco and Wolf are better choices than Krystal, and there's certainly no way that Star Fox needs 4 characters.

Whoa, due to The Last of Us and the PC version of Dark Souls, I've been out of the loop with SSB since E3.

Olimar has been confirmed to return??

The Reset Bomb Forest is a stage in the 3DS version??

What other new stuff has been shown since E3??

Where are all these question marks coming from?!?

1) Yes
2) Yes
3) Nothing new as of yet.

This is fantastic. I had started to ignore the new "Dojo" because it seemed like Sakurai was just going to show screenshots of stuff we already knew. Good to see he's using it to reintroduce veterans and showcase new levels (albeit only in glimpses).

A Reset Bomb Forest stage is encouraging. GIVE ME PLAYABLE PALUTENA, SAKURAI.

Legitimate suggestion for a boss in the new smash bros.

Since cranky is DKOG, and the grandfather of the DK we see today I think it would be interesting to see him as a boss. Kind of master roshi style he turns into some huge buff gorilla and causes chaos.
It would also be interesting to see jumpman, while some speculate this is mario. Mario a long with Luigi, Peach,Daisy I guess, bower, DK and Wario were all babies at the same time, so jump man has to be a different guy.

It would kind of be interesting to see some gruff old short Italian man like the old big boss version of Mario and Luigi. At least as an alternate costume.

" Heya, are'a you'a Jump'a man"
"yeah Im jump man"

There's no speculation that Jumpman is Mario. It's been long CONFIRMED Jumpman is Mario. Hell, Mario's Smash trophy even says this. Also, it's long been established that the original Donkey Kong arcade game was Mario's debut title, and that DK and Mario are old rivals as such. The ambiguity lies more in the identity of sports spinoff DK -- is he arcade DK, or is he descendent DK from the Country series?

[/nerdtalk]

Namco rep should be Klonoa.
Also Rayman
Rayman is Ubisoft

Hmm Cool.

I wouldn't put too much stock in the mario "canon", its just dumb speculation on my part. But Sports DK is the same DK you see in the Dk games so. Take what you will.

I'm pretty sure Jumpman is confirmed to be Mario. Donkey Kong is consistently regarded as Mario's first appearance.
Yes, you're correct. Note the titles listed on Mario's Melee trophy:

Known worldwide as Mr. Nintendo, Mario uses his incredible jumping ability to thwart the evil Bowser time after time. While he's best known as a hero, Mario has played many roles, including racer, doctor, golfer, and villain. His tastes have changed over 20 years of gaming; he long ago swapped the colors of his shirt and overalls.

◾Donkey Kong
◾Super Mario Bros

Oooo, shot down! Bummer.

Not a fan of the blue goo?

I'm not sure about that. I have hard time to decide who would fit for Square-Enix nowaday. I guess it might be better if you have slime riding on Chocobo since both of companies merged into one and they were released their games on Nintendo and Super Nintendo.

TBH, I always preferred to see Chocobo over Slime but I'm biased since I played more Final Fantasy than I do with Dragon Quest.

YES I KNOW! I HAVE A FEELING THAT WE MIGHT NOT SEE PALUTENA BUT I'M NOT GIVING UP WITH OUR HOPE FOR PALUTENA!

Ahh yeah that. Nearly reached 200 too. Those were the days.

It took like nearly two years to get to that point which isn't bad with consideration with low amount of members at the thread due to low expose.

Just incase you missed the first pic of that stage.

Heh, I just realized the irony of Jumpman being unable to jump in arcade DK, then changing his name once jumping becomes his thing in SMB, lol.

Oh man, why would you even begin to doubt there'll be another Kid Icarus character? All of the stars -- ALL OF 'EM -- are aligned in the series' favor. And the green-haired goddess would be top priority. Palutena is Sakurai's waifu.

Yeah, I would like to add this link to support your argument. I think.

I'm pretty sure Jimpan era Mario can jump, just not really big :P

tbqh it's just us bickering at each other with cycles repeating etc

I'm with you guys, Palutena needs to be in this.

I would be very surprised if Palutena doesn't make it in. She has the best chance of any potential female newcomer.

I know. I really want to see her to be playable character but I'm afraid of Sakurai's humbleness.

Ah, so it appears the Reset Bomb Forest starts on the battlements overlooking the massive war at the start of Ch. 11, and then Viridi drops the Reset Bomb, Hiroshima-style, and transforms the stage into the magical pink forest. Viridi also has the coolest army, so hopefully her minions will show up as stage hazards. Cragalanche, anyone?

I wonder what the WiiU stage will be. I can see a couple possibilities: If they doggedly stick to the "Stages must come from console/portable version," they might make a stage based on the NES game, with modernized graphics, of course, in which case the Underworld would be the perfect candidate. Not only is it a perfect counterpart to Brawl's Skyworld, but it could feature a lot of imagery that was updated in Uprising, I.E. the Eggplant Wizards, the Reapers, etc.

Alternatively, they could relax their console/portable rule and simply feature a full-blown Uprising stage in the WiiU version, in which case I'd like to see Lightning Battle, complete wit Phosphora and Thanatos duking it out, and Hades and Viridi blabbering in the background. I'd also take an Aurum-themed stage with all of the gods plus Pyrrhon.

I think I might crack Sakurai's statement about customization before I post whole things. Can anyone post me few interviews of Sakurai's comments on customization pretty please?

“We’re planning for a level of customization to some degree and in some form,” Sakurai acknowledged. “It’s not completely decided at this point. But it’s very important to point out that we do this in a careful way that doesn’t affect the strength and balance of the characters. One thing we’d like to do is to be able to customize the direction of attacks. But not give characters a stronger jump or a stronger or weaker attack. You can consider customizations like that possible.”

R.O.B. is not getting cut. Wolf is not getting cut. Lucario is not getting cut. People need to stop being paranoid. If any characters get cut, it will be due to time constraints like what happened to Mewtwo in Brawl.
