I think his point is that their limit break is healing like a whm or sch will be, yet they queue as dps. This makes no sense, imho.

Oh, that. Well, it makes more sense than omnislash. It is kind of weird that archer itself as a class triggers the restorative limit break but it is not as weird for bard. In either case I don't get why it's a big deal--if anything, having more than 1 (well, 2 with ACN on the way) classes that can trigger that LB is pretty critical IMO.

I'm still pretty salty about that. I leveled Archer just for that.

So am I friend. Would rather they just made it so buffs didn't effect the limit or something since DRG lose more then they gain with the new setup, and from what I was reading they were already doing less dps then other classes when fights were long enough for tp to be an issue. Second wind is cool and all, but would much rather raging strikes and straight shot.

Also just so I'm clear, if I take ACN to 50, all I have to do is unlock SCH and SMN and they're both 50 as well? I know I can do this at 30, but if I waited until 50, I'd have all three at 50 right? If that's the case, I do hope SE adds more classes in the future in addition to the jobs we're assumed to get.

I wouldn't wait until 50 to unlock Summoner and Scholar, though. They level up with your Arcanist so as soon as you get Arcanist/etc to 40, you'd have all the roles at 40, then at 50, all would be 50. I wouldn't wait because there's quests for each job as you are leveling up (like SMN/SCH quests at lvl30, 35, 40, 45, 50) so unless you wanna waste exp by doing the quests at 50, I would unlock them as soon as soon as possible. :)

I just realized Ifrit is kind of like this game's rank 2 dragon boss fight (e.g. Black Dragon) from FFXI, with the tour of the three dungeons taking the place of the rank 2-3 mission's more minor tasks. Goes to show that FFXIV's content design has really stepped it up from those days.

Can someone answer some class role questions for me:

Do jobs make classes obsolete?
Do you think there is a viable class build that uses the more and more flexible cross class skills? Seems like the hit to stats from no job would make that tough.
What are some viable 4 man comps? Will they all need a whitemage?
Does loading crossclass healing make any sense? Sleep?

- Yes, in the 99% of cases at least (on group content) on solo they are still useful.
- Soon to say since we didn't saw end game content, but I'm sure is designed around jobs.
- Comps? I guess you mean camps? camps are a obsolete concept in ARR, the best way to level up on a group will probably stick together doing FATE, Hunting Log and guildhest
- Makes sense specially on solo, GLD maybe could use as well. I'm not sure which classes can get Sleep on crossclass skills, but again in Solo should be helpful. Normally on group you choose the skills that complement better your job.

1) Its generally accepted that Classes are mostly better for soloing and Jobs are mostly better for Group Play.

2) i dunno about this

3-4) Generally you probably gonna need a Conjurer or White Mage for 4 party content, however in beta 3 i healed perfectly well on a Thumaturge with healing cross class skills, however i can't think of any other class bar arcanist who could viably heal with the cross class healer abilities. So for some classes (Arcanist and Thumaturge) it can make sense to load healing skills but all other classes? not so much because they lack high amounts of Mind and INT to heal.

It is by design that jobs make classes obsolete in group content. There may end up being fringe cases where classes can hold their own or will be used out of necessity (the only really likely one being a THM as a healer). Classes are ideally meant for soloing, though that seems to be only for a handful of healing and damage mitigation actions you may miss as a job.

I don't think you can cross-class Sleep.

Cure becomes iffy as the level gets higher it seems. Most people say it is pretty useless as a Paladin at least. A THM can main heal pretty well for the first two dozen levels (though a special attack from a boss here or there may test it). There is stuff like second wind to consider also.

A healer seems very necessary, especially after the first few dungeons. WHM and SCH will be the two designated healer jobs.

I'm thinking of going with CNJ --> WHM. Any tips on lvling after going through the first 3 dungeons? I don't think I was leveling very efficiently in P3 beta...

As a CNJ/WHM it should be very easy to get dungeon groups. Spamming Duty Finder should be fairly fast leveling until around 26-27. I found leveling in a group infinitely faster, even if it's just one other person. I leveled with Capell during Phase 3 and we managed to get through content pretty quickly even though we spent plenty of time exploring.

Hunting Log + FATE + leves will net you a good amount of exp. Otherwise keep running dungeons is a good way too (although in the last level before level cap can take a while, so at that point going back to other methods is the best way.

A job's level is always determined by its base class level. It doesn't matter what level you unlock SCH and SMN at, they will always be equal level to your ACN so there is no need to wait until 50.

I wasn't inferring that I'd wait until 50 to unlock them. I was just trying to understand the job system better. I was under the impression they were separate from the main class and had to be leveled accordingly. I'm a little disappointed that they count as one class in terms of leveling, so I hope we get more classes sooner rather than later.

They seem kinda like Spec choices to me since they build off a base job and fit a specific role better, but since they lose some things too they aren't as well rounded if you want to solo stuff. It's really gonna depend more on the Job in question than anything else. For example when I go SCH from ACN I lose Carbuncle entirely, so no tanking options and I guess my DPS gets heavily restricted also, as a tradeoff for massive healing/buffing options from a Fairy pet.

Going to have to level one of the other classes to level 15 and conjurer to 30 before you can white mage.

I enjoy playing CNJ, but am thinking about jumping ship to ACN/SCH.

I'm having trouble choosing a name for my character:

mNTrRgm.jpg

My name in 1.x was "The Ziz" which was OK, until NPCs started referring to me as "The"

so far I'm torn between:

- Ziz Drywind: it's a play on the popular Final Fantasy name Highwind, and with me being an Immortal Flame and a resident of Ul'dah it works well with the whole desert setting.

- Ziz Blightingale: a combination of the words Blighting (to blight, destroy, ruin) and Gale (a strong wind) it's also a play on the word Nightingale.

And both names go well with my first name which is based off a legendary bird.

what say you GAF? which name should I choose?
other suggestions are welcome too.

Drywind just sounds like a whirl of trouble. Ya know how trolls are. Haha. But Blightingale I like the better of the two.

Ok I pre-purchased the digital collector's edition:) Despite not liking the beta too much I admit I didn't give it a fair shake.

I have heard that there is no wipe in Phase 4 that's cool. I will go old school me and actually give this mmo a proper go and level like nuts. I'm actually kind of looking forward to it:)

wait, I am confused now. I thought jobs were pure upgrades (except with Arcanist since it has 2) of classes? After you become lets say warrior, you can still play as MRD? and that there is actually merit with MRD (or other classes) than WAR (jobs)? even on solo?

I've been playing with the character creator and I still don't know what race, let a lone what gender I want to be. I've played a male character in all my mmos so far and figured it might be time for a change, but also I like the way some of the male armor looks. As far as races, no clue. Probably cat/human if male, roe or human if female? Gah...

Go for Roe, seems to be the most rare at the moment

Tested the old (2008) and new (2013) desktops with the benchmark, both set to "standard desktop", 1024x768. New computer gets a score of 7183, old computer doesn't even run it (stuck on 'now loading'), LOL.

Actually, for anyone looking to avoid repetition in characters, here's the last Van'Diel census with all the temperance info from 2008.

Interesting and might be somewhat helpful.

Fairly even race distribution, other than Galka and Elf women.

Another bit is character size. On most races, well over 50% chose the same height

This is actually pretty interesting. So I guess the rumors that the game will be overrun with catpeople might end up being just overly exaggerated.

I'm planning to pre-order the game tomorrow. I'm in Canada so I'll be going to EBGames. Is it too late for me to get an early access code? I'm still very confused on how they'll be given out.

It shouldn't be. The codes aren't active until the 8th, and even then, it shouldn't be difficult to generate one after that date.

I'm not sure how it works in-store, but you should, in theory, receive an email closer to release with the pre-order code. I received mine already when I pre-ordered the PC Collector's Edition off of Square Enix's site.

If you pre-ordered in-store I've heard that the code is [oftentimes] printed at the top of your receipt.

Classes are generally more flexible so in some cases, like small-group stuff that may not need a dedicated person doing something, a class with a few healing or self-healing skills can be a big help. In larger content, you'll most be doing Jobs but still, in some cases a class will help the situation. It definitely isn't hard and fast.

That said, they've rearranged what pools jobs pull from and the number of cross-class stuff is much lower now, so they're really focusing it now which is kind of sad.

Mine wasn't printed on my receipt a few weeks back.

They said they'd call me back whenever they receive the codes but I called today and the guy seemed totally lost. I don't really trust them for pre-order bonuses =/.

Just finished my new computer build. Can't believe how fast the benchmark is downloading. 5 minutes it will take. Hopefully performance is as good as my download speed. :)

Is the character creation tool available for everyone? I cant seem to find it.
