Neither the JP nor the EU guys seem to even be recruiting new players.

The JP leader guy already said he's only having an LS and the FC he's going to isn't allowing anyone who doesn't speak Japanese in.

Are the EU guys recruiting new players? If so, I'll change the listing accordingly.
We're not going to be a 'guild' like on Ultros, just because for EU players you have things to consider like preferred language and that can make things rather complicated, especially because there are some people, even on GAF, who are not confident with their English skills on a day-to-day basis.
So we'll make a LS that will be welcoming to GAF players (Legacy or new) who want to play on a 'EU-Timezone' server. There are plenty of Free Companies and LS to join where people speak English, Spanish, German, French, Italian, Swedish etc. and we just can't take that freedom away from GAF players.

Further note for the JP and EU folks: I do not have the power to defeat timezones and historically GAF EU guilds in particular have not been of any decent size nor have they survived very long. It is up to the EU folks if they wish to play with the largest population of Gaffers on Ultros or Sargatanas or with the smaller population of Gaffers on the other servers. I'm not trying to force anyone to go anywhere. The Steam group listing will be updated according to the wishes of the Khrno but beyond that I'm not going to be sucked into drama over servers. The listings are for information and nothing more.
Yeah, I can totally get behind that reasoning. When I said 'misleading' I was talking in a general, FAQ sense. Just don't make newcomers think they somehow can't create new characters on Legacy Servers because that's just going to stir up more confusion and ultimately, drama. The whole server situation is complicated enough.

I didn't play a pet class in WoW because my elementals in EQ were better >.>. No game has gotten pet classes right since EQ.
o.O Warlock pets were way better than Mage pets what are you smoking.

They had way way more utility to them.

EQ2 summoner was good as well

Meh, they didn't do nearly as much damage though and couldn't really take as much of a beating as a high level mage pet. In EQ the pet was a much bigger portion of your damage and survivability than it was in WoW or any other MMO. Really made summoning it significant.

The listing is meant to be as simple as possible to avoid these problems. I've added a note that you can make a character on any server.

Yeah having the pet do most of the work is a no no, the pets should be there to compliment the player not carry the player

Thanks. I really wasn't confrontational, and I'm sure you had good intentions. It's nice enough of you to have created the Steam group.

It follows the naming guidelines!

My favorite so far is Uhihi Uhi.

I also got Gasasa Gasa. Don't stand downwind from him.

How about this?

I'm not so sure. I don't think it is taking account turning nouns into adjectives or verbs, for example.

I've said this before, but the random generator isn't very good because it isn't considering how the names sound.

EDIT: Gasasa Gasa would be exclusively a female taru name.

I picked up tales instead of that. Needed to be something that could keep my interest.

I wanted to get Tales, but then I remembered how much of Graces f I played and thought "Nah, not worth it." I blame my stubbornness to beat it on Chaos difficulty is what drove me away.

I dunno about guidelines, but the Sea Wolf surnames are like the parents rolled over and died as they spat it out.

Yeah, it's one of the more off putting things about Sea Wolves. The names just feel far too limiting, especially for females. Having to following specific rules and then trying to find something that sounds even halfway decent within those rules is tough.

If you were curious though they have a full dictionary of words with translations. It's...interesting, to say the least.

Then why have a pet at all if it's only there for just a little benefit? That's why pet classes are no longer fun for me. I want a pet that destroys things, not something that makes me slightly more effective. Otherwise why play a pet class?

A pet doing up to 1/3rd of your damage is not slightly more effective. WoW pets also had effects that kicked in from them doing things that proced stuff.

It's more a companion feeling complementing what you do than sit back and having it do everything for you.

To provide utility like a pocket tank, interrupts, crowd control, self-heals or self-buffs, etc.

Pets that are just fire and forget dps pets are the most boring kind.

It pretty much is just slight when you can roll a class that can do almost everything a pet class can do without babysitting a pet.

I don't understand the aversion developers and a lot of players have to focusing a pet class more on the player supporting the summon rather than the summon supporting the player. It worked so well for the Mage class in EQ1. Some of my most fun moments on my mage were frantically keeping my pet alive while doing damage to the mob I was fighting, or just letting it go nuts and kill everything when I was farming.

FFXI SMN was shitty unless you used to exploit things like the TP and enmity system, then it became really good. Awkward support, awkward damage dealer, awkward healer. I'm cool with them changing things up.

My problem is by "changing things up" it sounds to me like they're just going to copy what WoW and every other MMO post EQ did.

WoW has a pretty effective pet system now. In vanilla it was garbage, but now you can spec Beast Mastery as a Hunter for a massive pet that murders everything (Beastial Wrath + T-rex!), or pets that tank more effectively, etc.

Even Warlocks let you spec Demonology for different bonuses to your pets. Warlock pets were all situational; crowd control, tanking, DPS, etc.

You still want player interaction though, otherwise it gets boring. Just walk near something, push a button, and watch a pet demolish an NPC gets tiring.

So rather than having the majority of the classes's spells do just straight up damage to the monster, why not have a bunch of spells that empower the pet in various ways such as heals or powerful short duration buffs, along with multiple pets to choose from? With all that along with maybe a limited selection of nukes, you'd be pressing just as many buttons as any other class.

Also BM hunter pets are still kind of lame outside of long cooldowns. And summoning elementals is cooler than taming creatures anyway =p.

Weird I am a member of the steam group but I can't post comments or join chat. Says something about I need to have a game installed first.

I think I finally decided on my race *hint avatar*

It occurred to me that there should be a Korean Falafel named Kekeke Keke.

Who are you in the Steam Group? Chat with me, we'll figure it out.

Durandal (JP) hasn't closed recruitment, the only thing is we're not going to have a full blown group going with benefits. It's open to whoever (the LS) but if you want to join the FC we are in you need to be able to speak Japanese and apply to them (I'm not the leader).

There are still a few people joining us, and like I've said all along you don't need to speak Japanese to join the LS.

I think I might go back to Miqo'te. The reason I switched was because everyone was playing one but I shouldn't be making a decision based on that. I should be who I want.

I basically got my Elezen how I want, but I'm not sure I've checked all the options?

I remember during Phase 3 a friend of mine sent a pic of an elf he made, and it had an earring on. Is it possible to designate earrings? I don't see this option anywhere..?

Were you feigning excitement lol?

Think it is worth mentioning that installing a SSD to your PS3 improves performance? Is it a big improvement? I remember YoshiP mentioning it.
