Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | August 2013 | Divekicks & Dragons

It shouldn't matter how you control stuff since the ps1 emulator lets you remap any button.

Nah -- it's still bothersome depending on the number of buttons required and such. MGS is a bit wonky since L2/R2 are on the back touchpad.

Some games it works okay with... others might not translate so well.

As far as UX goes, I hope the PS4's first impression is better.

Not charged, Welcome Park, 45 minute firmware install, before any games can even be played.

Is there no way they could send it out charged, and with newest firmware? And for the next update, just assume whoever bought a Vita knows roughly enough not to need the Welcome Park, because funnily enough they've used a touchscreen before, even if it was a ticket kiosk in the 90's.

Last I checked you don't need to use the second analog for it so couldn't you move those to the right stick?

[havent played it on the emulator yet]

Hey guys, I wanted to let you know we're giving away two copies of Zombie Tycoon II for free, all you gotta do is like our FB and comment on the post for the review of the game here.

I'm still not sure if this kind of thing is ok but I've seen Kass do it with psnstores, we don't have that much clout though so I only got two copies ;( We'll also be giving away 10 avatar bundles throughout the weekend too so, I'll let you guys know when that starts too.

I wish I'd won your Velocity Ultra code... :P
What avatar bundles?

Also, I have that game from PS+, but even if I didn't, I wouldn't want a Zombie Tycoon II code. No offense to you guys though, I like your site. ;)

Thank you thank you :) It means a lot to us, we're still small and young but we're trying! The avatar bundles are like... 5-7 PSN avatars in each bundle. We'll be raffling off 5 a day on saturday and sunday.

Are they for a particular set of games?
For example, if you tell me you're giving away the Muramasa avatar bundles, you have my interest.

Oh, sorry about that I should've been specific. They're for Zombie Tycoon II as well lol. I'm really excited for some of the other stuff we're going to be covering/raffling though. I can finally gush over DJ MAX Technika Tune.

Hey not sure if you worked on Velocity Ultra but if so I just wanted to say fantastic job. It was great fun playing it non stop on my flight to San Fran. Now hopefully I'll be able to finish it on my 7 hour flight back east.

Nice work!

I'm sure this gets asked here quite a bit, is there anyway to speed up the PSN downloads on the Vita?

It's still somewhat slow on the PS3 but on the Vita it's much slower. 300mb is taking an hour.

Ohhhh.
Yeah.
I don't need those.
Thanks for clarifying though. ^_^

Fix your network? :)
That's seriously the only suggestion I can actually make -- if your network (setup or router model in some cases) isn't optimal, you're going to suffer most likely. :\

Pretty much. I don't think this is a Vita problem. Just a few days ago I downloaded Sound Shapes (1.1GB) in about 40 minutes.

My Vita DL speeds are blazing, but it takes hours to download even mid-sized demos on my PS3. I could never go digital on PS3 for that reason alone.

Hope PS4 is as fast as Vita.

GT just named Guacamelee as the best Metroidvania game that isn't a Metroid or Castlevania:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BgCqqRcgyaU

Saw that a couple weeks ago. Symphony of the Night's my favorite game and I love Super Metroid. Was a couple on that list I've never played, surprisingly. I think I'm more partial to Cave Story over Guacamelee, but it's a sound choice. I also think La Mulana shouldda been on there and if I was going to pick an NES game, I'd have maybe gone with Clash At Demonhead even though my memory of it is a little faded.

Downloaded the Sine Mora demo...looks awesome! I had the game on 360 and it was great. Thinking about purchasing it on the Vita one of these days.

I went over to the buy/sell/trade thread to see if I could exchange my $30 eShop credit for Guacamelee and Hotline Miami download codes. It's worth a shot, lol.

One of the import stores I go to here in NYC has DJ Max Technika Tune for $65. I would buy it digitally, but 1) I have an 8 gig card and 2) I like having physical copies of my games.

I still haven't opened Persona 4. Trying to finish SMT IV before I jump into another RPG....but things may change with Mario & Luigi: Dream Team coming out this weekend, lol.

While I am a fan of rhythm games, I was disappointed with Cytus on the iOS. The biggest issue was the timing. Wayyy too easy. I'm gonna assume that same issue is present in the Vita version?

The Crash thread reminded me that US Vita owners still can't play Crash games or Spyro. Have we heard anything about this lately? Or, with all the community involvement lately, is there anyone we can ask about this? Seems crazy that I've had this Vita since launch and still don't have access to these games.

In other news, I am really liking Muramasa. Didn't read much about it, played Monohime's game, now I started playing with the second character. Pleasantly surprised that the quests are rather different so far.

If you don't mind waiting until September 26, you can pre-order the DJMAX TT best hits from an import store online( play-asia or http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/search3.html?q=DJMAX&media=&r=any&step=20&order=score) . It's $35 also.

Nope and nope.

SCEA doesn't care about Vita owners and ignores their pleas for more PSP games, more PSOne games (including Crash, Spyro, and R-Types from my list), and PS+ feedback.

I think there's probably comments on the PS Blog on a regular basis (there used to be) about these things sometimes, but I don't read enough of the comments there (and based on the fact that the PS Blog team in NA only acknowledges posts that they think are "worthy", I don't think we've ever gotten a statement on these games. But they work in EU and JP!).

Nope, Cytus is still a very mediocre and forgiving rhythm game. The only thing it has over Project Diva f is song count.

Price too.
Maybe presentation too, depending on if you're into the Project Diva aesthetic.

But Diva has trophies, and isn't PSM, so that's a double whammy against Cytus. ;)

True, but I'd rather pay $60+ for an imported Project Diva f (or $50 for Technika Tune) over $12 for a shoddy Technika wannabe.

Does the "Best Edition" have new songs?
No, "Best" editions are just cheaper versions of the original games.

I just wish both of these games had music I liked. I'm not really into k-pop or whatever it is they have.

KickBeat lets you import your own music, costs $10 ($2 cheaper than Cytus), and supports cross-buy. You might want to keep that on your radar.

I'm really excited for KickBeat, as a big fan of rhythm games that doesn't way to pay $50 for the only good native Vita rhythm game we have right now. :p

I consider Rayman 1 leagues better than any 2D mario game and I consider Origins better than any 2D Mario game by a reasonable margin.

BWAHAHAHAHAHA!!

To the person that inquired, Origins is excellent. Looks stunning on the vita, and lums can be gathered by touching the screen (an advantage over the ps3 version). I read Legends will include close to 2/3 of Origins stages, though, so that may be something to consider.

Finally y'all the upcoming months Vitaney will CLEANSE itself of indie FILTH and have good games with unique gameplay and actual budgets BLESS the platform. I ready

And it won't matter because the West isn't here for it and all Japan has to look forward to is GE2 (which is sure to get steamrolled by the 1-2-3 punch of MH4, Pokemon X/Y, and One Piece 3DS). Then we'll be back to more of your reviled indie filth until infinity.

Poor brave Vita, Kyon-sis

I think US PSN has more PSP games compared with PAL land PSN no?
According to the web store US PSN has 87 titles, AU/UK PSN has 50 titles

Fake edit: I think you're referring to Vita PSP compatibility which I have no idea on. Carry on.

Yes, I am.
Between shit like PSOne/PSP games just not working even though they're fine in other regions (Crash, Spyro, R-Types) or PSOne/PSP games working but requiring a PS3 for transfer... that sort of stuff.

It's a fairly valid opinion. Its mechanics are solid and it's different enough from Mario games to justify liking it over those. I don't agree with him at all, but I wouldn't consider his opinion laughable.

A case can definitely be made for Origins as the best 2D platfromer in the last 15 years or so, but it's pointless to draw comparisons between it and Galaxy. Almost two entirely different sets of genres. Same goes for Rayman 1 and 64.

I'll be the first to admit the NSMB series is underwhelming. I didn't even finish the wii version. So, yes, Rayman can reign supreme in the incredibly sparse landscape of modern 2d platforming.

I don't even consider a Sonic a true platformer. Highly imprecise and slippery whenever he slows down, so there's not even much "platforming" going on. I had a genesis, and treasured the Sonic series, but SMB3/SMW it definitely was not.

At this rate, I'm surprised Bubsy wasn't mentioned.

But Bubsy wasn't remotely well-regarded like Rayman 1 was. I agree that it doesn't make sense to compare 2D platformers to 3D platformers, but what you quoted was referring to 2D platformers (specifically 2D mario games). I am with him on the Origins part, though. It's probably my favorite 2D platformer ever, this coming from a MASSIVE of 2D platformers. But better than every 2D Mario by a "reasonable margin"? Nah.

I wish Sony would hurry up and announce the Sly Collection for Vita. I need to know if it's cross buy, or if they're gonna pull J&D and only make it cross buy in EU.
