Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | August 2013 | Divekicks & Dragons

Unless you consider Tearaway an "AAA" production, then there is nothing that can be considered as such this holiday season. I still can't believe Vita isn't getting a CoD or GTA game. Even another AC bug-fest would have been welcome.

It literally has ZERO titles with a 500k+ sales potential in the West this year. That's what's wrong with what he said there.

EDIT: And I hope more than anything that Gamescom puts the world's biggest egg on my face. But based on how Sony operates, I doubt we'll see any more 2013 announcements for Vita.

Both (KZM and Tearaway) the two western titles coming out this year were announced last year, though.

And I don't think either will make a huge impact.

Uncharted: GA
AC:L3
CoD:BLOPS:D

Vita doesn't have a single title of that caliber this year. Killzone's sales potential on consoles is limited enough, let alone on a handheld. Tearaway defines niche, and it's a low-budget project by a miniature-sized development team within MM (so yes, VanWinkle, I wouldn't call it AAA).

Batman has potential, but what we've seen looks mediocre and way below Vita's capabilities. And FIFA is FIFA (i.e. another roster update).

What Vita really needed is: 1) October: a big SCEA title like Beyond or GoW:A that shouldn't have been on PS3 in the first place; 2) November: the cross-play, close-to-perfect CoD port it should've gotten last year; 3) December: a GTA.

Not a spin-off of an already C-tier FPS franchise and a quirky platformer that will give MM an excuse never to develop for Vita again.

I'm guessing that's best Sony could do at this point. I mean, they could just pour money in and develop AAA tiles, slash prices of Vita and memory card, and have crazy marketing to increase Vita's momentum. However that would make financial loss that could never be recouped and thus the plan would never be approved by shareholders.

AAA is about resources, not sales. At this point you can say that:
a)handhelds have no AAA games because their budget are not comparable to the ones of home consoles(not true imo, for example resolution apart uncharted, killzone mercenary and others have nothing to envy to their ps3 counterparts)

or

b)handheld's AAA is different from home console's AAA

Vita had many AAA games and others are coming, some of them are just different from the home consoles ones.

I wonder if Shahid can get Wasteland 2 on the Vita?

Maybe Shadowrun would be more possible (especially as low-end as it is), but the lead for Wasteland 2 adamantly insisted that the game will never be on consoles... making a point out of it to drum up stature as a real PC game w/ no potential console-ification compromise. In my mind there shouldn't be any reason that a willing studio couldn't be allowed to do a down-port to consoles well after release, that may or may not be compromised and altered for controller support, but them's the breaks.

I see, sucks because it looks like something that would be good on Vita.

Finally got myself a Vita! Have been lurking here and saving up games on PS+ for the last year. What an amazing little machine. It perfectly compliments the 3DS in my opinion, as the titles on this one are of a totally different kind than on Nintendo's handheld.

One thing that slightly bothers me however, is the weight. It seems just a tad bit too heavy for a portable, and after playing a session of Lumines my arms felt kinda strained and tired. Maybe it's just me played in a cramped position though, not sure.

It could be your positioning, because my first reaction when I held a Vita was that it's so light, there couldn't possibly be any innards in there.

Very impressive considering that heavy-duty battery.

It feels about as heavy as a psp to me. Or maybe I am just used to it.

I can't really tell if my Vita is charging or not.
It is turned on. but when it goes into standby, the Home button starts flashing orange..

Is this the right behavior?

Look at the battery indicator? If there is electricity animation within the battery it is charging. Otherwise, no.

Get on the dragon's crown train yo. Excellent game, especially if you like loot.

I know twice(persona 4 golden time ago, saints row the third now) how you feel :(
Go buy dragon's crown, my copy still hasn't arrived :'(

I'm waiting for the EU version, right now.

Persona 3 Portable?

I played through P3FES some years ago and I'm not sure if I want to grind all these dungeons again.

I just checked the website. It says if it flashes orange, the power is too low to turn on but is charging, and if it is a solid orange light, it is on standby but charging. Seems to me that if you saw an orange light, you're okay

I read that on the website too. strange thing is.. my Vita is on.. yet it's still flashing orange :/

the electrical signs go on and off T_T

EDIT:
guess there IS something wrong with my AC Adapter. The Vita is plugged in, the charging sign shows up but the battery just went into RED.
When I plug my Vita to the portable battery charger/iPad charger, it seems to really charge as the Home button is now a solid orange/red.

gah... guess I have to replace the AC Adapter brick right? I wonder how a drop would have damaged it :/

I've never even thought about the weight before. It's perfect, I suppose, for something that size.

Now that I compare it with the 3DS, I've gotta say the weight is indeed not so bad at all, must have been playing in a cramped position then.

I was wondering, when I'm playing on my Vita, can people on my PSN friend-list playing on their PS3 see me as online?

I watched every trailer for the game on Vita, so this is great news to me! Especially since it's including a New Guest Character (Probably someone from one of their VNs?) and a New Mode, according to the link. They held a poll on facebook to gauge additional character interest, so it'll probably be someone from that!

I'm just glad they get to expand the game just a bit more! Though I'd love for them to bring the new content to the XBLA version too...

Also surprised there seems to be no PS3 / 4 version to go along with it. No problem with me; Vita needs exclusive-to-it games too, and it'll probably fit VERY well as a portable game to many.

I'm more interested in that than I am in KZM and Tearaway combined.

Even having already played it loads, I probably feel the same, ha. KZ and Tearaway look great, sure, but neither genre grabs me as much as a good ole BEU.

Dat pixel art.

Is the gameplay like Castle Crashers? Because as fun as Dragon's Crown is, it's a bit too involved for someone like me who likes beat-em-ups without heavy RPG elements.

It's much closer to Castle Crashers than Dragon's Crown; it's a focused BEU with leveling that actually feels pretty worthwhile (every good bump to a skill makes it more satisfying to use), and it has an "arcade" mode that tosses out all the voiced story pauses, and lets you just play though the stages straight.

I love side-scrolling beat 'em ups, but the Phantom Breaker art style just doesn't appeal to me. :(

But I would like more beat 'em ups on Vita.

PB's style feels like a nice growth of something like RCR in practice; plus it also allows for a few BIG bosses that make you feel as if you're watching old school Final Fantasy fights (tiny SD character VS Screen height behemoth style). Also has the added bonus of making everyone distinctly stand out, making it much easier to keep track of your chara VS something like Dragon's Crown (where character just kinda merge into a mess of beautiful colors, ha)

I'm really glad that beat'em ups are returning and this one looks awesome, but i really can't stand vertical movements limitations(like in code of princess) because i find them incredibly stupid, we'll see...

I really see no clear bonus to "free movement" in modern BEUs. It simply adds in collision problems, makes it easier to lose you character in a horizontal "dead space" where their attacks miss targets, and the lack of character scaling with depth kills any illusion of depth the pseudo-3D might otherwise offer.

Whereas the line-restriction system makes it much easier to reliably know where you are, and trust in your attacks hitting what is in front of you. The fact it gives an easy "escape" is also a bonus, when enemy numbers get out of control.

It also frees the game from the need of a "jump" button, which then either allows for a guard button, or another attack. I've always found either option better than "hold attack to guard", or "press button to jump" personally.

Stop porting the XBLA games I already own :(

PB is a must-buy, though.

At least the port means... NEW STUFF! Which we probably wouldn't see without the possibility.

A spritework game like this also is just MADE for the Vita screen.

Finally, a pure, native-Vita BEU! DC is fantastic, don't get me wrong, but it has so much ELSE (stopping in stores for repairs and purchases, making sure everyone has accepted quest, going back to town after every stage early on, etc) that I don't find it to scratch the exact same itch.

That "miniature" studio is about the same size as the whole studio was when they made LBP, and you haven't the slightest clue about the budget. And "C-tier" is an opinion of yours, and if you look at the metacritic ratings of KZ2 and 3, you'll see it's not the norm. You have warped opinion on AAA with the insanely huge budgets and development teams these days, so I can't really argue with you.

Regardless, you still didn't tell me a legitimate reason why what Shahid said was laughable or wrong. He said there are "AAA" games coming out in the holidays that aren't announced yet.

So Killzone is C tier but Beyond is.. what, a guaranteed 500k + on the VIta? Whatever you say I suppose.

But you're right - a few titles like that can drive adoption. I honestly think FIFA will do good numbers this year, and, if rumours are to be believed, Football Manager could do very well for us.

Tearaway will do decent numbers I think - it's budget price to encourage people to pick it up, and it looks charming and unique enough to find itself a good audience.

I've tested this, and from my experiments no they can't see you online at all. With the vita online, you show up at the very very bottom of the friends list, registered at offline. Tho, there's no time saying how long since you last logged in.

It's one terrible thing that needs to be fixed. Then again, if the vita goes to sleep, and reawaken, you'll be going offline/online a lot. Could be annoying for the ps3 users. I'm torn on the matter.

Nope :( but best megaman ever

You're telling me.
When I was in middle school my South Korean friend brought me back this awesome Korean exclusive PC version of X4. He was thinking "why would a white kid want this" he said but I thought it was the greatest thing I ever saw. Still have it in its awesome dust cover, too. No one can tell me anything about why the PC version is a Korean exclusive either. Pretty damn weird, Capcom.
