Starscream got away with so much

Actually in one episode Starscream got on his nerves too much & Megatron just dismembered him & left him to die.

He also had a logical reason for not destroying him so many other times.

In many continuities it's made very clear and obvious that Starscream is so good at his job that Megatron will overlook a lot just to have an air commander of such high skill in charge of his air forces. The G1 cartoon is not really one of those continuities.

Megatron kept Starscream around because it kept him sharp. He's a Decepticon warlord - he can't afford to become complacent. No better way to stay on top than to assume someone's always out to get you. Like a true badass.

Is Starscream in Beast Wars?

Terrorsaur was a Starscream expy for the first season. He even usurps Megs for an episode - predictably it doesn't end well for him.

Tarantulus and Black Arachnia fulfilled this role for the 2nd and 3rd seasons, but they never really sought leadership of the Predacons so much as they were pursuing their own selfish agenda.

Transformers Prime Starscream was fun because he actually got called out on his shit and had to figure out how to survive without the decepticons. Made him way more interesting when he knew that he couldn't go home.

Is Starscream in Beast Wars?

In 1 episode, yeah.

I loved their relationship.

It says on the back of Starscrem's toy packaging something to the effect that Megatron knows Starscrem is the one that will do him in eventually but keeps him around because he is the best at what he does, ripping shit up.

Starscream was very intelligent, fast, and strong. His only weakness was that he was a coward, as far as I can remember.

In perhaps one of the best episodes from one of the best series in all of Transformers, yes.

Starscream is a great character overall. Megatron fucked him up so many times.

Also, "Starscream's Brigade" from Season 2 of the Generation 1 series is easily one of my favorite episodes in any Transformers series. Not sure entirely why, but I loved it as a kid.

Starscream is "canonically" a very powerful, intelligent Decepticon. His true weakness is his ambition, I remember Megatron practically praising him in "All Hail Megatron" at one point.

Starscream is interesting because despite being such a legitimate threat, he just makes some of the worst decisions ever lol. I love the character.

Starscream is definitely one of the most legendary Transformers of all time. Easily one of my most favorite if not right up there. They've taken to show him in some different ways at times, usually the schemer and sadly a total coward which I find too basic for my taste. One of the more interesting things done with him was in that horribly translated Armada cartoon. He actually questions Megatron not for power but out of how foolish Megatron does things. He even forms a relationship with the humans and almost switches sides.

With Unicron showing up he actually goes out in a big way that evokes his G1 destruction in the movie and manages to unite both sides against a common foe.

Beast Wars looks awful. I never watched past Gen 1 and thank god for that. Even if I had to deal with the awful Rodimus Prime at some point.

Had I been charge of the movies, I would have made Star-scream more or less like Loki from Avengers, maybe even have Tom Hiddelston except he would be competent brawler even matching Optimus. I always saw him as a ladies man, the bad boy they all love.

Assuming the Decepticons' social hierarchy is similar to that of pirates as pop-culture knows them today, I would guess Starscream's antics are merely an act to keep would-be mutineers in check. Any dissension or challenges to Megatron's leadership filters up through Starscream, and, predictably, Megatron always shuts that shit right down.

Or perhaps Megatron knows that Starscream is no real threat and wouldn't be able to maintain his rule for long, so he keeps him around in order to stay sharp when things are all quiet between the Autobots and Decepticons.

I am not as familiar with Transformers as I'm sure most of you in this thread are, so I could be way off on this. Just spit-ballin...

I liked the Animated version of Starscream quite a bit. Especially when Megatron finally had enough and offed him. BUT, the Allspark in that continuity had exploded and little shards and splinters of it had been spread all over the universe. One of them wound up stuck right in Starscream's head and when Megatron killed him and left his corpse behind, the shard brought him back and healed him. So he dusted himself off and tracked Megatron back down. And was promptly blasted again. And again and again. At one point there's a whole montage of Megatron killing Starscream in various clever ways, only for him to keep coming back. It was a funny and cool story, and a good way to work in Starscreams "immortality" from earlier continuities.

Eventually, Starscream gives up and builds some clones of himself, which turn out to be that continuity's Thundercracker, Skywarp, Dirge, etc.

Actually, I love everything about Animated. The story wound up making all the major things from earlier continuities happen like that, but in clever and concise ways.

You missed out on one of the greatest series that the Transformers franchise had to offer.

Galvatron is such a badass

It's a shame in season 3 he took such a fucking nose dive. He started off fucking awesome in the movie and I mean, I really enjoyed the idea of S3 Galvatron and his insanity and how he had fallen from being this once powerful decepticon leader but he ended up just acting like a screaming toddler.

I still think his character design is one of the best though. I'm currently reading through the IDW comics and I'm liking the twist on his character and how he's not actually just a formatted megatron for once (at least that's how it's being portrayed so far)
