Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | August 2013 | Divekicks & Dragons

Eh, can't say I have ever heard of this before. Maybe you just lost the 3G connection? Don't panic.

No, my Vita told me exactly that it was too hot and therefore the 3G has been disabled.
Don't think it will be permamently damaged. Just think it is strange for the device to run hot so soon, never happened to me before since launch.
It is also strange that only the 3G is affected and nothing else.

That would be great! I'm still hesitated to buy P3P because of the lack of walking around and Anime cutscenes.
If it makes you feel any better, most of the animated cutscenes are junk. It's only really seeing character models talk to each other where the presentation seriously suffers.

IIRC:

Persona 1 --> 19.99
Persona 2: Innocent Sin --> 29.99
P3P -->19.99

Not really worth it, imo, especially the 1st Persona. That game is very, very rough :(
Innocent Sin got a permanent price drop to $20. For anyone interested in buying them, you might want to wait for a sale. They were all half-off for two weeks recently.

Borderlands 2 is coming to Vita :)
That's good to hear!
I haven't played Borderlands 2 so if it's a decent port I'll pick it up on Vita.
Famousmortimer told me that before E3. Honestly, given the wait an exclusive spinoff reusing console game assets would have been better.
I'd have much prefered this though.
With the announcement for P4A2, why do I have a feeling Persona 3 Sapphire will be announced for the Vita soon?
Yes please, the original game and FES with no cutbacks along with a few extras. (

A+ is pretty much a given if you don't use Tony and finish everybody off (punch them to knock them down and then go up and kill them).
Thanks. I'd actually tried using Tony for the increased melee, but it sounds like the exterminations make up quite a bit of the score.

The trick to getting A+ is just getting solid combos and weapon variety.
Using the mask for combo window+ helps you if you got some skill.
You can also use the faster walk speed to help the combo window, but that takes more adjustment and you need decent twitch reflexes.
There's a mask that apparently allows you to get right up close before they'll see you, that should be good for getting close enough to the gun guys.

Need to research the masks.

Not a Borderlands fan but i can't really see people getting excited over it. It is another late port of a game, a pretty decent game though. And if it really happens, i wonder about the price and the availability of all the DLCs for VITA.

Persona 4: Arena 2 would be amazing on VITA though.

Borderlands loot themed gameplay is perfect for a handheld. It's a bit late, but a good fit.

The existing VITA audience might be happy with this news(If true!) but will it really help in bringing new audience?

Anyways, Gamescom is soon so we will get our answer about upcoming/2014 VITA releases soon, i guess.

Calm down guys , I just checked with a Sony insider on GAF and he said last time he checked, it was coming(unless his source got it wrong). Don't really feel like putting him on blast though but if a mod wants to know, they can.
Dangit, I thought it had actually been revealed. Mortmier pretty much confirmed it before E3 when GameTrailers had that exclusive Vita game reveal and he said "Don't know what this is, probably Borderlands" (but it turned out to be Destiny of Spirits).

I assume that Borderlands 2 is a GOTY edition releasing alongside the GOTY editions on its existing platforms. Hopefully there's cross-play with PS3.

And also, as Takao said, would much have preferred an exclusive spin-off.

Borderlands 2 is coming to Vita :)

If this is true, I'm going to cry with joy.

If this is not true, I'm going to find you and bite off your fingers, one at a time.

I haven't got around to playing the second yet, but I'd happily pay full price for a direct port of BL1, so I'm sure I'll get my moneys worth. If it's true.

Anyway i hope that borderlands will be well made with no issues, they can downgrade the graphics how much they want if necessary.

EDIT:
graphics downgrades to get native res and at least solid 30fps obviously and no compromises like less cars like in nfs:mw.

Borderlands 2 coming to the Vita? BORRRRRRING! The game is not even a going to be a Borderlands spin-off but a straight up port of a game that came out a year ago.

Lord Jesus, can we please get some original Vita exclusives announced sometime soon. Good ones. More Tearaway and less Vita Pets.

This reminds me -- heckmanimation -- if you want to play P4G but don't feel the need to be challenged by the battles and don't like grinding, if you're not very far, start over and put it on easy or very easy. You'll thank me later -- then you too can be level 30 and flying through the dungeons in the blink of an eye.

Thanks -thats a good idea - i think ill keep it at normal for this playthrough. Want to enjoy the game for what it is rather than speed through. :)

Im happy with borderlands 2 coming over. Im a bit reserved though, especially with these ports until we see footage and play it. Been burned too many times on vita knowing whats possible vs. how often it turns out subpar.

Always wanted to play it tho - hows the single player?

No, we can't. Learn to live with it. The device, amazing though it is, is selling like absolute shit. It's now stuck in a catch 22 where the games ain't coming because the sales aren't there, and the sales aren't there because the games ain't coming.

Borderlands 2 would be a fucking huge score bearing in mind the current situation.

Dude, like it or not, it's a big known IP. So when it's coming to Vita, even as just a port, is fantastic news.

Sony isn't part of that catch 22. They should be supporting their own system with new games in order to jumpstart sales and convince third parties that the Vita is worth investing in. I've reached that point now along with many other Vita owners where I'm getting sick of ports and want some Vita-exclusive content.

It's a port. It'll make some Vita owners happy, but it won't sell any units. I don't like Borderlands as a series even remotely, but even I can recognise the amount of good a spin-off exclusive would do.

Sony have made it quite clear where their priorities lie. Never mind the PS4, the PS3 has had much better support than the Vita over this last year. Their projections for the coming year suggest they're not going to pick up the slack any time soon.

Vita owners that are sick of ports and desire high quality original IPs should probably make their peace with the fact that it looks less and less likely with every passing day.

We want it to be one way, but it's the other way.

A Borderlands 2 port (especially a GotY Edition) would be amazing. I'd take that over an awful spinoff like Black Ops Declassified any day.

Yes, it won't likely sell any units, but that doesn't make it any less desirable for Borderlands 2 to come to Vita.

I mean, hell, what do you want Sony to do? Saying "Sorry, we don't want to have Borderlands 2 on Vita because it won't sell units" to Gearbox? Anyways, it's not Gearbox's responsibility to sell Vita, it's Sony's, so the fact that Gearbox even give their time to Vita is a thing that everyone should appreciate.

Anyways, SmokyDave, while you're here, I remember you as a rather big fan of racing: any good racing games you can recommend for Vita? (Or anyone here can also chime in). I already own Wipeout 2038.

Multiplatform ports are fine though, as long as they are not late ports. Look at dragon's crown. It plays great on the vita and we can play them on the same day as its release on the ps3. I couldn't care less thatit iisn't a handheld exclusive. same thing with rayman legends. Most games on consoles are multiplatform anyway.

Of the ones I own, I'd say:

Ridge Racer: Content light and 30FPS, but pretty damned enjoyable if you're into time trials.

WipEout: Shit hot, but you own it.

WRC3: Shit.

Asphalt: Worth £6.29, brainless arcade racer. It's very 'Gameloft', but it does the job.

Moto GP13: Cracking port but difficult if you're not into bikes.

MUD: Same as above, but on dirt!

NFS Most Wanted: Fucking great. Love it, love it, love it. Can't recommend it if you'd rather play on console though.

Sonic Transformed: Cracking little port, cracking little racer.

To be honest, you already own the best racer on Vita. I'd say Sonic was a good choice if you get on with kart games. NFS if you're not bothered by the graphical downgrades. Asphalt if you don't mind playing a cheapy Gameloft racer. None of them leap out to me as 'must recommend' games though, sadly.

And I think Sony's priorities are wrong. If they knew they weren't able to sufficiently support the Vita alongside the PS3 and upcoming PS4 then they shouldn't have released the product in the first place. For all the shit I give Nintendo, at least they pulled out all the stops to ensure the 3DS became an eventual success.

Some will make peace. Others will go out kicking and screaming. I feel like I've remained docile for long enough. It's August now and the Vita's prospects are looking grim past Tearaway. It's time to make some noise,
and by noise I mean whine and complain.

I'd take an awesome spin-off like Killzone Mercenary over a Borderlands 2 port any day.

I do completely understand where you're coming from Acquiescence. It's just that I've run through the whole DABDA thing and now I just accept it for what it is.

Hahaha, it seems racing games on Vita is kind of lacking. Unfortunate. Hmmm... maybe NFS Most Wanted..... gonna scour the Internet for more impression for the Vita version, see what people are talking about it.

I am actually on the mission to stack my Vita with games from various genres, like RPG, platforming, racing, FPS, etc etc. RPG got stuff like Persona 4 or Soul Sacrifice or Dragon's Crown, platforming I got Rayman Origin (any other recommendation?), FPS I am planning to snag Killzone Mercenary (though I am not really a big fan of FPS but what the hell it is one of the major big games for Vita so why not), etc etc.

Trying to get games of various types in my Vita.

I really enjoyed the Vita NFS : its great craic for racing on the go.

If you haven't played NFS on any other system and you're open to the fact that it's a little bit rough visually (relatively speaking that is, it's still one of the best looking portable racers ever), I'd recommend it. It blew my socks off and I play it far more than the PS3 version. I only hesitate to recommend it because it seems to be a bit of a 'marmite' game, people either love it or hate it. Personally, I love it. Great handling open world arcade racers aren't easy to come by on a portable!

Meh, I prefer a safer port. Not many developers know how to take advantage of the Vita's tech like Guerrilla Cambridge does.

If they go for port route, I hope it's an enhanced port that have exclusive feature on it rather than just straight up port. That's the second best option after (well-done) exclusive spin-offs.

The existing VITA audience might be happy with this news(If true!) but will it really help in bringing new audience?

It might not alone, but fence sitters who liked other games but couldn't justify the purchase might be swayed with a big hitter like this. Who knows. If the 45% price drop is global and this is released it could have a bit of a boost.

To be honest the only game I can imagine selling Vita mass market is a GTA game.

I'm not a huge racing game guy and I fell in love with NFS: MW on my Vita. Playing the hell out of it right now. The visuals are great if you have no context to the console original and most importantly there's virtually no slowdown at all (I say virtually because I haven't noticed any). There's soo much content in the game and if you have a bunch of people on your friends list with it then it self populates the auto-log with challenges to beat them.

Really fantastic game.

GTA game is certainly a system seller. And If I'm not wrong, both PSP GTA games did quite well aren't they? But Rockstar seems quite busy with GTA V at the moment. No too mention their recent new Bully trademark and the next Red Dead game, any Vita Rockstar game seems far for now.

Are Gearbox giving their time to the Vita? Who's actually porting the game? Because I'm willing to bet it's probably one of Sony's own teams, like Bluepoint, doing the work while Gearbox lie back and make some easy pocket change in the process. In which case, that'd be time and resources better spent on making something that can't be played anywhere else but the Vita.

Look, I realise there are people genuinely excited about the prospect of playing Borderlands 2 on the Vita and I appreciate that. I'm just airing my own personal grievances right now, and a port of a game from a series that I find is mediocrity incarnate doesn't get me hyped.

Meh, I prefer a safer port. Not many developers know how to take advantage of the Vita's tech like Guerrilla Cambridge does.

I don't understand, you'd prefer a safe port like Borderlands 2 over something that pushes the system to its limits, realises its full potential and can't be played on any other console? Wut.

NFS MW is a good game and a looker (for a portable game). But it isn't Burnout Paradise 2, that I was hoping for.

Wipeout still is the best racing game.

I was surprised that NFS looked so rough since I sunk a lot of time into Ridge Racer and played Wipeout - I much prefer the clean look of RR.

I don't think it's a marmite game though, it's got much more appeal than other racers on the system since it's got the licensed cars in there. I do think it's a very competent game with a ton of things to do in and out of the main career mode.

WHERE IS MOTORSTORM RC?!?!
The 'one more try' digital equivalent of crack, some parts are pretty hard, but the awesome asynchronous ghost multiplayer system keeps you coming back for more. Plus it is cheap.

Oh shit! I do own that too (and all the DLC). I guess I'm just bummed out that it's nowhere near the game that Arctic Edge was (obviously, it's totally different). It is a good game though. RC Pro-Am with more dirt.

It's only really the low res that messes with the looks. Understandable given that it's open world. I was probably a bit too harsh on it, mainly because I don't really like recommending games in case someone buys them and doesn't like them. I'd hate to be responsible for someone 'wasting' their money.
