New 3DS System Update (StreetPass Relay Feature)

Is anyone having problems with duplicate tags? I can't get rid of the notification that I have one for EO4 and Fire Waifus since I already collected them. I'm considering deleting the guild card/killing off and deleting the Avatar Logbook recruit entries to see if I can recollect them that way, but I'm not sure if that will actually help.

Just to repeat for those who don't know. Use this script for the DD WRT Cron Job. It changes your MAC Address every 2 minutes. I've been getting new SP for hours upon hours

Code:
0-59/4 * * * * root ifconfig eth1 down && ifconfig eth1 hw ether 40:53:50:4F:4F:`/bin/cat /proc/interrupts | /usr/bin/md5sum | /usr/bin/cut -b 1``/bin/cat /proc/interrupts | /usr/bin/md5sum | /usr/bin/cut -b 1` && ifconfig eth1 up
2-59/4 * * * * root ifconfig eth1 down && ifconfig eth1 hw ether 4E:53:50:4F:4F:`/bin/cat /proc/interrupts | /usr/bin/md5sum | /usr/bin/cut -b 1``/bin/cat /proc/interrupts | /usr/bin/md5sum | /usr/bin/cut -b

This doesn't work on my DD-WRT DIR-615 :(

Are you going to the Admin tab and putting this in the Cron job and making sure Cron job is Enabled?

I'm going Administration -> Management and Cron is about halfway down the page... should it look like this?

Just went through and set this up on my phone, way easier than I was expecting it to be. Didn't realize the Macs were literally just one bit off, only having to change one number really changes my opinion on the phone method. Also, my 3DS seems to send out about 138KBs per outpass. Coolio.

Does anyone know which server it communicates with? I've whitelisted my 3DS MAC address but I know it's a poor protection. If I could whitelist Nintendo's servers I wouldn't mind so much having my Nintendo Zone hacked in.

I walk by 2 starbucks and a fedex every morning, in Oakland/San Francisco, which are all supposed to be Nintendo Zone locations, but I haven't gotten a single relay. What gives?

Maybe you're the only person with a 3DS that passes those locations? Or the other people don't have their systems on or streetpass enabled.

I put together a ridiculous Python script that just cycles the 10 MACs, leaving it running in a command window along with virtual router.

Short of a one stop solution with a router or a phone, but, seems to work.

You should review the code that you posted.

Here it is again incase I messed up
Code:
0-59/4 * * * * root ifconfig eth1 down && ifconfig eth1 hw ether 40:53:50:4F:4F:`/bin/cat /proc/interrupts | /usr/bin/md5sum | /usr/bin/cut -b 1``/bin/cat /proc/interrupts | /usr/bin/md5sum | /usr/bin/cut -b 1` && ifconfig eth1 up
2-59/4 * * * * root ifconfig eth1 down && ifconfig eth1 hw ether 4E:53:50:4F:4F:`/bin/cat /proc/interrupts | /usr/bin/md5sum | /usr/bin/cut -b 1``/bin/cat /proc/interrupts | /usr/bin/md5sum | /usr/bin/cut -b 1` && ifconfig eth1 up

Are you simply copying and paste the code that I posted?

Yup. I've tried 3 or 4 other scripts from GBAtemp too but no dice. Might make an account there and ask them, I think the DIR-615 has a Ralink chip rather than Atheros or Broadcom so that might be the issue.

So, why does the 3DS disconnect? Is it supposed to only connect to the network for a little bit then disconnect? Or does it stay constantly connected?

I have this problem too. 3DS can't connect anymore when the MAC changes.

If your talking about the 3DS connecting to the router though, it only connects every once in a while to check for something new, and then disconnects to save battery life. A lot of modern electronics do this.

Seems the Nintendo Zone "StreetPass" doesn't even need sleep mode. We have been cycling through mac addresses at work during lunch break and got streetpassed, green light and everything, while picking the puzzle pieces of the previous sp.

Anyone know any reason why the fake 'neogaf' mac addresses work for me, but all of the 'real' mac addresses never streetpass?

The list on https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/lv?key=0AvvH5W4E2lIwdEFCUkxrM085ZGp0UkZlenp6SkJablE&f=true&noheader=true&gid=3
has a bunch of 'real', 'in the wild' mac addresses but i can never ever streetpass them.

You need a crowded pool, those macs probably still new/fresh or there were only few people who were cycled through it and seed it.
All GAF macs have the same problem at the beginning but the more we cycled through it and seed, the more crowd we create.

I took my 3ds with me for the first time after this update. The 3ds was on standby for a couple of hours and in a busy area, not sure wether it's the hotspot's doing or that the hits came regularly. I've had 3 hits yesterday, normally it's one and sometimes nothing. It would be great if 3 hits a day becomes the average!

It depends on the software/app. The Plaza allows tags while in use.

So, I just copy+paste that code in the Cron section and it will change automatically every 2 minutes?
What if I want to make it 3 minutes or add more addresses (like the NeoGAF ones)?

Changing the time is about figuring out the "0-59/4" part. /4 means the job is done every four minutes, 0-59 on a clock ranging from zero to 59 minutes; so at 0, 4, 8... minutes. "2-59/4" means the job starts at 2, 6, 10, etc.

Adding more addresses really is just about adding more lines to this crontab really. If this crontab works for you you can just copy and alter to add more addresses. Be careful, the MAC address is six numbers of two digits, which means the part between backward quotes `/bin/cat /proc/interrupts | /usr/bin/md5sum | /usr/bin/cut -b 1` represents a digit (it's done so it output a randomised hex digit).

You can play with that to add more MAC and be wary of time collisions :)

I thought Fire Waifus was the name of the EO4 gulid causing the problems for a second...

If I understood the problem...go to notifications on the home menu and click the game. There is a rubbish bin icon by each tag. Try using it on the problem tags.

Hey, Kubinksi... from Germany, favorite colour yellow, Samus helmet... if you streetpass me and get the custom message, yes, that IS what I intended it to say.

And Jody, thank you for saying I was fantastic! I love our little streetpass community. NOW YOU ASSHOLES BETTER GET WATERING MY PLANTS.

Turns out none of the mac addresses that start with '00' work for me, everything else works fine. Anyone know why that could be?

I have a related problem. None of GAF's mac addresses work for me, but GBAtemp's work perfectly. I have no idea why.

now my 3DS sees my 'droid hotspot; it shows "Nintendo 3DS authorized" on the notification bar, but with a worrying red X shield. I guess it's not working as intended

PRAISE THE LORD! IT WORKS!

Got AnYun from Japan with uh, a baseball glove as hat

The opposite. They promised to never, ever give people GBA games, outside of the Ambassadors.

Both are an exaggeration. This was the original press release line:
These games will be available exclusively to Ambassadors, and Nintendo currently has no plans to make these 10 games available to the general public on the Nintendo 3DS in the future.

You can read into it both ways, because there is wiggle room for them to go back on this ("currently" being the key word).

Are you using Windows? I think Windows only accepts MACs starting with certain digits. The GBATemp MACs were changed so they're compatible with everyone.

I'm using the Windows Virtual router method and the Neogaf, GBATemp and the Nintendo '00' have all worked for me. The MAC's around Nintendo World very rarely hit for me though.

Yes, I'm using Windows. Is there any chance we use Windows-compatible MAC adresses here on GAF? I can't StreetPass with the rest of you guys :(

The GAF addresses are all Windows compatible. The start with 4E, which is allowed by Windows.

Is there any other reason GBAtemp's MAC adresses work perfectly for me but I can't get a single StreetPass using GAF's? I'd really like to figure this out.

I can't think of anything... You're using attwifi as the SSID, right? If they're Windows compatible then I have no idea :(

Yes, attwifi and 'password' as password. The method I use for changing to GAF's addresses is the same I use for GBAtemp's. For the latter, I get StreetPasses almost instantly, but I never got one from GAF, even after waiting 30+ minutes.

The hell.

In that case, I have no idea. Both work for me.

Just to make sure it's not me being stupid, these are the MACs we are using, right?
