No live stream for Microsoft Gamescom media briefing

Hmm CBOAT said to watch out next week from his last post for something and since MS doesn't want to stream their conference for a a very lame reason, might be bad news.

Will we beable to use this?

(reminds me of that alot)

I'm surprised at this.

The self-publishing for Indies was supposed to be the Gamescom surprise.
Wait, that's it? They were going to say: "We will allow independent developers on our platform!"
I thought they were going to outline some plans as well.

They have got nothing else? Damn.

Every conference/event that has ever been streamed is "like watching a party that you’re not at".

What a lame excuse. I guess they don't have any megatons from Gamescom.

Feels like Microsoft is constantly insulting my intelligence, unless the conference consists of everyone eating pizza and drinking beer with no game announcements. Then i agree that it's not worth streaming.

They're taking a page out of the Sony playbook lol. Letting Sony announce first this time and then come out and announce theirs... which is gonna be one day earlier lol.

Sony:- PS4 is coming out on October 21st!

MS (right after):- XB1 is coming out one day earlier!

There's no way they could do that with all their supply problems.

So a couple of things.

1) thought Phil Spencer was giving the Gamescom Keynote...is that not different from the MS media event?

2) The media event supposedly is going to be fairly short in terms of an onstage talking points and be more about giving media hands on, time with the console with out the public present.

3) I thought Major Nelson was saying they going to be live streaming from the show floor as the event was going on similar to what they did with E3. Is that not the case now?

Isn't that because he's going to post about (spoil) the keynote announcements? CBOAT clearly knows his stuff, but posting RIGHT before an event is just douchey.

I think it's hilarious people believe Sony only priced the PS4 at $399 because Microsoft priced the XB1 at $499. Even funnier was watching members of the gaming press float this idea at E3.

Jeff Gerstmann said he heard things about last minute price adjustments by Sony.
But hey, old topic.

I have to agree with some of the people here that said it was a good choice by MS not to live stream. Just pick and choice what to release to get the right messaging out.

1) Yes, it's different. It's not like the 90 minute press conferences we've been seeing,

2) The way they phrase it sounds like there will be a 30 minute block with a stage presentation to media only. After that, there will be ample hands on time with the devs

3) They have a few events at Gamescom they'll be live streaming like the CoD Ghosts public thing.

We'll still get announcements out of this, they will just come in the form of press releases rather than in the middle of a presentation.

There is no way Microsoft would let Sony have 2013 to themselves. Although Microsoft does seem unprepared and was caught off guard by the PlayStation Meeting, they wouldn't hold off until next year.

Well we know it's November. I meant an actual date. Seemed Gamescom was the last big event they would announce it at, but so far all signs point to them barely having any presence other than showfloor for the public.

Yeah, he did, and it was embarrassing he believed that, and then repeated it.

That's not what he said. He said that that part of the presentation wasn't in the rehearsals and the slide was made right before the show. Both of which are things you would be just as likely to do if you wanted to keep a secret as you would if you were reacting to competition.

Google Gerstmann's Twitch account. It might be under GiantBomb.

Either way, he said very directly "I heard Sony made that price decision after Microsoft made theirs".

Incredibly dumb reasoning for not streaming it. Looking forward to cboat's thread/mega-post come next week.

Was going to make a new thread, but figured I'd post what I just saw here.

Was rewatching some GTA V Trailers, and saw an advert about the XBox One. Said to "reserve for launch in November."

I know its all speculation at this point, just wanted to give an FYI.

Xbox One is already confirmed for November. At E3 Microsoft literally said that the Xbox One is coming this November.

The late november date seems to be a lock for the xbox one.

Livestreaming E3 but not Gamescom. Is MS stupid or something?

"We dont want any good Reputation anymore. So we cancel the Livestream for the Gamescom."

Well the "inner circle" thing works on the press at least. Remember how privileged some felt to have been shown Titanfall at E3? I'm not commenting on the quality of the game because I can't, but the people who were shown it felt pretty special and defended the game more than usual when questions were raised.

As a more substantial assessment compared to my snippet above...

It feels like Yahtzee's little summary of MS' E3 strategy is just as apt here. Why MS would skip over what was largely seen as their biggest, arguably last, chance to really get the Xbone back on track and get some decent mindshare after reversing most of their terrible policies leading up to now is beyond me, and probably a good chunk of everyone else keyed in. I really can't comprehend why they wouldn't have at least some showing. Weren't they supposed to formally announce the indie policy reversal/Every-Xbone-is-a-devkit thing at Gamescom? How about a specific release date announcement? And isn't there at least one potential candidate for [EDIT: new-game] announcement here? (I've seen Crackdown 3 thrown about alot, though maybe that's been more wishful thinking than anything all along?) Tease out more info on whatever Black Tusk is doing? There's gotta be something, even if it tags along with repeats from E3 as filler.

It seriously confounds me as to how any higher up at MS could think that this is a good idea. I'm not sure what opportunities they have left beyond Gamescom to really make any sort of splash. TGS will be Sonyland by default I'd wager. Unless MS wants to do their own event, they're really missing out on a spotlight opportunity. Hopefully they'll do a 180 on this stance before it's too late.

Although, if I'm to speculate for a moment, it feels like this at least quells any notion that the new Xbone self-publishing policy is something that's been in the works for a while as some had suggested when it was announced. I get the feeling that, if any significant work had been done in regards to this, that they'd be showing it off front-and-center at Gamescom to start building their own indie-hype machine. That there seems to be nothing to show for it at this point says to me that it's definitely something at too early a stage of development to be worth really letting a public audience delve into.

EDIT:

So Sony won't be streaming theirs either right?

They are.

More than usual? wtf lol maybe they just really liked what they saw.

Luckily for those going to Gamescom, they can actually play Titanfall.

Big mistake IMO, they should give a concise look at the new Xbox One, post E3 and 180's. It'd be great to have everything set straight on a stage and what not.
