No live stream for Microsoft Gamescom media briefing

okay dude, this post of yours was from mere weeks ago:

I was merely getting it out of the way.

For those that don't speak fluent 'Spencer:

Sunset Overdrive was announced with no gameplay.
Below was announced with a very short trailer.
Black Tusk new IP was shown was a very short teaser trailer.
We've yet to see gameplay of Quantum Break.
I don't think we've seen any gameplay of D4?
We haven't seen the Ryse multiplayer
We haven't seen any gameplay of Zoo Tycoon
Halo (5?) was announced with only a presumably CGI trailer at E3

Im sure theres more. MS have plenty to show, at least they actually announced games at E3.

Not to mention they have plenty of new internal studios making stuff (that has to be ready at some point) and they're hinting at Crackdown 3 and we don't know what Lionhead at the very least are up to.

It's funny, all these games didn't do jack for Microsoft. Sony comes on stage and says "$399" and "PlayStation 4 plays used games" and they've got everybody praising them.

Makes it all the more baffling that MS don't just revisit the E3 announcements in greater detail. It'd be a great opportunity to build up some serious hype now that the DRM cloud is no longer overshadowing their every step.

Hmm CBOAT said to watch out next week from his last post for something and since MS doesn't want to stream their conference for a a very lame reason, might be bad news.
Not necessarily. Last CBOAT post was rather postive news for The Xbox 1 and dare I say it, Might even turn out to be a less restrictive policy than Sonys.

Yeah, it was also posted here.

As Phil Spencer said last week, we’re hosting an small invite only media event on Tuesday, 20 August where we’ll share some news and give media a chance to experience gaming on Xbox One first hand. There is no live stream, but I’ll be posting the news here on my blog and on Twitter using #Xboxgamescom .
Keep an eye on Xbox Wire as well.

Hell yes! I can't wait for Major Nelson to tell me how great everything is!

Microsoft's E3 was like that party you're glad you weren't at because the next day you read about how the balcony collapsed and killed a bunch of people at the party.

Ok, that made me laugh so loud my dog jumped from her sleep.

Terrible idea from Microsoft, not so much for us in NA, but for all those EU markets there not going to be shipping to at launch. Although they keep saying they want to be a global player next-gen, their actions suggest otherwise.

You were trying to make a point that Microsoft didn't blow their wad at E3, yet they did. Sony's announced, what, four games?

How do you know they blew they wad? Yes they announced a large amount of the games they have due in the next year or so, but clearly not all of them and they didn't actually show much on many of those games, and therefore have plenty to show.

If they had plenty more to show, most of the already announced games would be in a playable state. Why announce Sunset Overdrive now when all it was was a CGI trailer?

Everyone knew this weeks ago. I think it could be a smart move to avoid any awkward moments. Allow them to edit dumb stuff out and release the announcements via media and their dash.

At this point MS is reviled for anything they do. Avoiding the live stream makes sense I suppose in that regard.

There better be some damn announcements of big games. Crackdown, Fable or Rare are a must..

What party, for all we know it just might be 60 minutes of knack.

At it'll still be better than...wait what's Microsoft showin again?

:p

Tbh I think Microsoft isn't doing it because they want to release the Xbone before the ps4 and they're waiting for the date of ps4 to be announced.

I wonder if they'll announce the release date at their short press conference or wait until after Sony announces

I could see them not broadcasting the conference if they aren't releasing much info at it because they don't want to get caught with their pants down again.

PS4 on store shelves. TOMORROW!

Plenty more to show, based on my original post included games already announced, which they haven't shown much of yet.

They clearly wanted to get Sunset Overdrive and their partnership with Insomniac out there. I would also imagine its due within in the next year, why not announce it? Plenty of games are announced with just a CGI trailer and the E3 conference was a pretty decent length with showing off Ryse/DR3/Forza and others like Titanfall/MGSV demos.

MS spent the original reveal talking about stuff other than games, and wanted to focus on games at E3. I don't see how that means they have nothing left. Not to mention at events next year we'll see new games announced for 2015 etc.

Microsoft must have some really amazing games to reveal if they're going about it this way. Though if you want it to be 100% controlled by the PR this is another way to save face.

It is pretty clear to me that Microsoft blew their load for the next two years. They will just keep showing gameplay for games that were just CGI trailers.

"You should think about this as a room with a lot of hands-on.”

In other words, "let us bribe all the publications into talking up the XB."

Why would this indicate what you're saying? If what they had was impressive, they would want the most eyes on it.

how's this an issue. Won't we get the same news out of it?

No live event means they can filter it and shape it exactly how they want people to see it. I believe it's an open event too unlike E3 so they can't just hire people to stand in the back and cheer after every sentence. In fact with their actions in the last few months and treatment of Europe over the years they're far more likely to get boos. So the answer is edited videos.

No new thread about Titanfall being playable at MS booth? Its a megaton.

When did this news break btw? That seems mighty important. People will finally be able to see if this game is all hype and no substance, or if it will really be the biggest game to hit stores next year.

I don't know if a gaming convention where you will have a finite amount of time to play is the best judge of a game. That goes for both negative and positive impressions other than really obvious things (controls, grafics)

and the self publishing thing was their big announcement on gamescom.....without the conference being streamed.... i think gameinformer did them favor leaking that info

Microsoft, WHAT ARE YOU DOING.

Meanwhile at the Sony party:

Yeah but Sony is showing us the party and making us feel excluded because we can't be there. At least MS has the compassion not to do that to us.

On serious note though: How does MS not see that by doing this, they are screwing both themselves and the press. Even if the press is being 100% honest, all the readers will just assume that any positive news coming out from their event is tainted.
