I have a question for all the people that think King K. Rool looks generic. What do you think of the designs of Wii Fit Trainer and Villager?
I'd only accept K.Rool if his Final Smash is the credits fake-out from the end of DKC1.
I think I can pretty confidently say that most of Metroid's fanbase are dudes just by virtue of when the series started in the 80's and fairly niche appeal compared to Mario or even Zelda. Doesn't mean it's not a stupid and borderline sexist redesign because more guys are noticing it than girls, or because your wife personally doesn't mind. I personally couldn't care less about trying to white knight women's rights in regards to M:OM (especially since countless others already do); I just think it's a really dumb design, both objectively and in the context of that series' plot.I think I can pretty confidently say that more dudes seem to have an issue with her heels than ladies do. Just such a weird thing to fixate on. Buncha try-hard sympathy pains up in here.
[Edit] My wife: "Until you pointed it out, I don't think I could have even told you what shoes she was wearing."
haha wow that sounds amazing, black out the screen and have the king with squawker lighting behind him with the credits rolling by
its too stupid so it has to be in.
I don't think it helps the Kremlings and K. Rool were blatantly taken from a Battletoads (which an ex-Rare employee recently admitted as such) for the first DKC. I think they mostly look fine, but they are just sort of there. They're far better ingrained with the 2nd game's pirate world design and looks-wise.
I find it hilarious that people are getting their suits of armor ready for Samus and her heels, but aren't saying a thing about Peach's heels.

A princess wearing heels and a bounty hunter wearing heels (in the suit she uses to fight aliens in) are pretty different situations, I think.
She's a princess... She doesn't fight except in Smash. Samus is a bounty hunter.
the less Rare created characters the better.
I can't help but feel you're being intentionally obtuse about this. If a female soldier in a war were to wear high heels it would be blood ridiculous and greatly hampers their mobility. It's not that hard to see why by extension, while just a videogame, that it's stupid a space bounty hunter who's constantly thrust into violent and alien environments where she has to stay on her toes and avoid hoards of aliens and space pirates trying to kill her that high heels aren't remotely practical. If Smash is meant to represent the characters they feature well, it'd make sense to ignore an aspect of the M:OM redesign that completely undermines that huge part of her character.Explain the difference, then.
And that's the context I'm talking about. What does it matter otherwise?
the less Rare created characters the better.
Because for Peach they just take her from a not fighting role and put her in a fighting game, it's funny. With Samus it makes absolutely no sense for a woman that is cold and dead inside and always in combat to have high heel boots on her outfit, high heel boots that wouldn't even fit in her armor but yet somehow do it the game.Explain the difference, then.
And that's the context I'm talking about. What does it matter otherwise?
And you're intentionally trying to pretend like some line is being crossed. Just like ArchedThunder above me.I can't help but feel you're being intentionally obtuse about this.
Going off how pixel-perfect some of Diddy's moves and animations were in Brawl, I'd take it if K. Rool's in SSB4 Sakurai would take the necessary time to replay all three DKC's for reference and realize over-seas the brothers thing isn't relevant.People said this before Brawl. Then Diddy got in and he was suddenly unanimously adored. All it takes for a Rare character to become instantly loved by all is for someone besides Rare to use them.
Anyway, if K. Rool is in, his Kaptain persona's blunderbuss should be a shoe-in as far as moves go...but Japan apparently still viewing the King, Kaptain, and Baron as brothers might be a problem...
A line in bad taste and dumb design, sure. If I was truly bothered about the stereotypical-aspect I'd be bothered by Peach wearing high heels as well, if not to mention there's far more damning things you can focus on in MOM than just that small detail if you want to make that argument. Thinking 'Other M Is Pretty Awful'™ in most respects isn't some sort of radical new way of thinking, and high heels make no sense and look ridiculous for a character like Samus, in M:OM, Smash or otherwise. How is that hard to get?And you're intentionally trying to pretend like some line is being crossed. Just like ArchedThunder above me.
high heel boots that wouldn't even fit in her armor but yet somehow do it the game.
I can't imagine how difficult it would be walking around in a suit of death armor but also wearing stilettos under the big gravity boots. At least if Peach's feet start to hurt she can just float everywhere.
The main line being crossed is bad, nonsensical character design. Sexist allegations are secondary. It's mostly just fucking stupid. And you're intentionally trying to pretend like some line is being crossed. Just like ArchedThunder above me.
Morph ball though, sound science there.

It's Sci-Fi
Go Go Hooker Boots are never practical in any setting.
I never said they wereCause the billions of fictional armors where there are fuckin rockets on the boots and your fleshy foot is six inches off the ground are a peach to walk around in
The heels are actually pneumatic. They allow her to perform the kind of gravity-defying jumps she does when she's not wearing the Chozo armor.
It's Sci-Fi.
It's discussions like these that make me glad Nintendo doesn't listen to fans' input.
I never said they were
Just sayin' if I'm gonna walk around in giant rocket anti-grav what have you boots I'd rather not wear heels. Though maybe Samus keeps guns on those heels like Bayonetta just in case she loses her armor AND her stun gun.
So Melee added more attacks, Brawl added the Smash ball... what does this game add?
I wasn't aware having a negative opinion on a character design that differed to yours meant I was constantly harassing the company to oblige my input. Would you have posted this if people agreed with you instead? It's discussions like these that make me glad Nintendo doesn't listen to fans' input.
I honestly think being on both the 3DS and Wii U with some vaguely defined connectivity/customization aspect is supposed to be this game's new mechanic. I can't think of anything else truly significant they could add at this point that wouldn't significantly change up how Smash functions otherwise, and they probably would've shown it off already if there was such a new mechanic. So Melee added more attacks, Brawl added the Smash ball... what does this game add?
I bet the heels actually slot in to the bottom of the boots, providing far more stability than just a foot in a metal can. Kinda like bike shoes hooking into pedals.
The Kremlins are the perfect villains for Donkey Kong. It may have been a happy accident but it takes everything full circle. Crocodile baddies are a logical progression of the source material.

If you look at the design of her armor in Other M her boots literally would not fit in her armor.
The burning question though is whether or not they've run their course. The source of the Kremlings' power (along with their entire island) has been thoroughly destroyed, and the Krew in general has just become less and less menacing to the point of laughter. When not having friendly races or baseball tournaments with the Kongs, they have to rely on things like omnipotent Crystal Bananas to get anywhere. In that regard they've become as washed-up as Bowser.
And I love Bowser, but not as a main villain. In the same way Bowser is at his best as a "third-party" in the Mario RPGs, K. Rool and his ragtag band of Kremlings that survived Crocodile Isle's sinkage should be involved in Donkey Kong's adventures but not as the primary antagonist.
Having an ever-increasing rogue gallery keeps things interesting.

Actually I was just looking at that.

Look at the 45 degree angle going from the front of that boot, up past the ankle. I bet the actual point where her foot ends and her leg begins, the top of her ankle, is flush with the top of that angle. Which means, wearing the heels, the ball of her foot is about 2/3 of the way towards the front of the boot. The ankle joint of that boot is WAY too high for a foot that's actually flush on the ground. There's even a tiny little armor heel there, for the tip of her Zero Suit heel to slot into, go fig. Front of the boot is probably packed with sci-fi viscera. Fits just fine.
My new character prediction.

Might be weird enough to work, lol.
I hope there will be a Miiverse stage similar to Pictochat.
lol, the heels debate. It's just dumb design. There was no reason she needed heels as a space bounty hunter. Especially after Zero Mission where she didn't have heels and the concept art specifically said that high heels was a no-go.
Just don't forget to give Samus inexplicable crocodile nipples and K. Rool a PTSD scene whenever he encounters Donkey Kong and has to be saved by Bowser.King K. Rool can wear Samus Aran's high heels. Samus can wear King K. Rool's gold-plated chest.
Problem solved!
Samus can also trade her beauty mark for a pair of Rare googly eyes.
Problem double solved!
A lot of Other M seems to contradict stuff Sakamoto himself had established for the series and character in previous games he directed. And yeah, that was my argument; they visually look ugly and make absolutely no sense for the character. If it was about sexism which some people are trying to write off complaints as, than I'd argue against the entirety of Peach's existence, and honestly that's for a different thread anyway.lol, the heels debate. It's just dumb design. There was no reason she needed heels as a space bounty hunter. So you think her foot twists at the arch? Yeah, okay.
Also have you ever seen what actual boots look like?

See that little part that juts out from the back of the armor? I think that's where the actual heel of her foot is. Note how the zero-suit heel angles inwards beneath her actual foot heel, mirroring the same kind of indention in the armor. The pivoting of the "armor ankle" doesn't mirror her real foot, the foot is slotted into the boot on a harsh angle, which pivots around the foot independently. Allows for more strenuous movement without actually damaging her heel!
Uh, no it wouldn't it would cause her to fall on her fucking face if she tried to walk. If that is how it worked she would literally have no movement in her ankles.
This just proves my point, look at the armor, look at how feet work. She would have now mobility in her feet or ankles.![]()
Sloppy, but gets the point across I think.
The armor is doing the ankle pivoting, with her foot locked into it in a straight fashion. It's why that "boot" part of the armor isn't solidly locked to the bottom of the armor leg, so it can independently pivot. When you wear robot armor, you adjust to things like like unconventional mobility. She's basically on the balls of her feet all the time. The extension of the boot forwards allows her to maintain balance, and also allows her to do things like jump down 400 foot cliffs without breaking her bones, and double jump in mid-air. By having a completely independent suspension from her actual ankle joint, and presumably with a dampening system built into the Zero Suit heel component.
I think I can pretty confidently say that more dudes seem to have an issue with her heels than ladies do. Just such a weird thing to fixate on. Buncha try-hard sympathy pains up in here.
