The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Mod Discussion and News [Creation Kit released]

No, I'm not running any software that should conflict with Skyrim, I already checked that multiple times.

Fuck it, I'll just completely redownload Skyrim.

Edit:
Completely reinstalled and started with the ENB first, and it actually works now. Now to see if I can actually make the game look good.
You just need a few to make skyrim beautiful. Skyrim 2k then download all of aMidian's textures, his caves, whiterun and landscapes and Vurts skyrim floral overhaul summer edition.

I recently went through STEP and then decided to use RealVision Performance to cap things off. I've got a 2GB GX670 and I'm running the latest version of RealVision Perforamce and ENB v.200. My machine's not a beast but it was perfectly serviceable when it came to running the fully modded game at between 40 and 60fps at 1080p before the ENB. The game would run for hours without crashing.

However, now that the ENB is installed, after about half an hour or so, everything slows down to literally two or so frames a second and the only thing that will fix it is quitting and reloading the game. The time frame is just about as long if I use 1080p or a lower resolution like 768p.

I used Skyrim Performance Monitor and I see that my entire 2 gigs of VRAM are being used after a short period of time. This is why things are grinding to a halt, I'm sure. However, I would expect dropping from 1080p to 768p would probably help with this if I was just scraping the limits of my VRAM but the problem surfaces just as quickly at the lower resolution. And even more strangely, I'm only using about 760 megs of RAM at maximum while running the ENB.

Is ENBoost included in the most recent versions of ENB or something? I would rather deal with more hitching than having the game literally become unplayable every time I return to the overworld from a shop or dungeon.

Does anybody have any advice about this?

Realvision has been updated to the v.200 series enb which has already got the enboost. As long has your skyrim folder had enblocal.ini enboost is in there. Check out gophers youtube vids about enboost just skip the install bit and go to where he talks about what setting to change. Also make sure the exe file you should of got with it has been set to admin rights.

Okay, so it does have the boost. I think the boost is what's causing my issue with the crap performance when I return to the overworld. Is there a way to turn off the ENBoost part of ENB v.200?

Set all these to false.

[MEMORY]
ExpandSystemMemoryX64=true
ReduceSystemMemoryUsage=true
DisableDriverMemoryManager=true

I noticed that ENB v.200 runs worse than v.144. With v200 when I'm at Whiterun and looking at certain direction the framerate plummets to 45, with v.201 it frops to 30. With v144 the frame rate pretty much stays at 60. Even if I turn off the memory stuff I still get worse framerate than with v144.

Also, ENB's fix tint gamma causes neck seams, at least for me. Darkens the whole head, but not the body.

I'm lucky I'm one of the few people who thinks even vanilla Skyrim looks good. The only hi-res texture I have is amidianborn's Ebony armor, because it's just too damn sexy.

Definately lucky, the hires are definately good and you wont run into any of the performance issues that alot of people run into. Im happy with between 30 and 60 fps in this games at 2560x1440 with enb. Most of the time anything below 60 makes me feel sick but for some reason this one doesn't.
Also aMidianborn is a monster when it comes to textures. I love all his stuff.

I have a lot of mods installed that have some impact on the graphics, but no stuff like ENB (well, except ENBoost). I can keep a fairly consistent 60 (without ENBoost's limiter I sometimes hit 100+), which only takes some occasional hits, mostly right after loading up the game. Gotta give it a few minutes to get those 170 mods booted up right. :lol

Ater installing some more mods yesterday, I've been enjoying the shit out of Skyrim. FPS can get choppy sometimes, but considering I started out with the PS3 version I'm used to it :p

So, I've been trying to make the Skyrim shadow look better. It seems that so far, none of the config changes in Skyrimprefs.ini have changed anything. If it makes any difference, I'm using SKSE to launch the game. Any ideas?

Here are the relevant settings.

iBlurDeferredShadowMask=32
fInteriorShadowDistance=3000.0000
fShadowDistance=8000.0000
iShadowMapResolutionSecondary=8192
iShadowMapResolutionPrimary=8192
iShadowMapResolution=8192
fShadowBiasScale=0.1600
iShadowMaskQuarter=4

Been tearing my hair out on the following issue I'm having, which I'll try to explain (since for some reason I can't capture the issue with screenshots).

Often there will appear a very thin green line (almost like a border) around textures at a distance, such as roofs, details on rocks, bushes, details on floors, etc, but when I get closer to whatever the object is the green line disappears. As I mentioned earlier I can't even capture the issue on screenshots (been trying several times so people might know what the heck I'm trying to describe).

I'm running several mods and an ENB, and I have no idea if this is a common problem with either of them, or if my graphics card is acting weird. I'm using a GTX680 (using 314.22 drivers, since newer ones makes shadows appear through walls).

Sorry for being vague, but after spending several hours googling, fiddling with settings and .ini-files I'm getting desperate. It's not a *huge* issue, but it's kind of difficult to ignore once you notice it.

If you want my mod list, .ini-settings, or anything else for reference I gladly post a link.

There is probably not much you can do other than lower the ishadowdistance but it will still be pretty blocky or use an ENB if you dont already.

I think maybe it has something to do with the bloom settings for the ENB....maybe dont really know but I get it as well hut it doesn't bother me too much as I can barely notice it.

Hm, alright. Thanks for your input dude, at least I'm not alone with this. :)

Finally decided to install an ENB, and for the first time I like the results. v204, using the performance version of RealVision. Took some adjusting (like turning of vsync again) until I actually liked the performance, but damn if I don't like the way it looks. I'll get around 55 fps now, on average, with 60 on interiors and occasionally in the overworld. For some reason, though, the FPS will occasionally dip tot 40, 30. It started happening in Riverwood, so I figured it had something to do with NPC's on screen, but it happens in the area around Lakeview Manor, too.

Kind of annoying, but it doesn't happen all that often.

I get bad framerate with enb v+200 even with that memory management stuff turned off. I suggest using older versions.

I use this ENB , I've edited pretty much every variable though, with ENB v144(which isn't available anymore) and get pretty good performance.

I've recently become obsessed with this game and trying out mods. Got a little compulsive with it really and ended up having to restart my character a total of three times due to corrupted saves from uninstalling mods, etc. One of them had 100+ hours of playtime.

Anyway I decided to redo everything again about two weeks ago and make sure I test it throughly so that I know my game is stable before I invest time in it. Finally got my game running consistently between 50 and 60 fps in all areas at 2560x1600 with 200+ mods installed :) Still crash occasionally but it is a very rare occasion and is never repeatable.

Took forever to do but it was worth it. Still never finished the main quest or Dragonborn so I gotta do that before school starts up again.

Hi GAF : ).

I leave here a link to my new little mod: Treeslod_23.

Thanks for your attention : ).
This mod improves the aesthetics of trees and soil over the long distance.
I've tried a lot of mods, aiming to fix this endemic problem that affect TESV, but none of them convinced me.

So I decided to combine (and improve!) a selection of promising textures, from various mods.

Looks good. You thinking about uploading it to Nexus?

I'll keep that in mind, but I just got RealVision set up, I want to actually play the fucking game at some point. :lol

Sorry for the imgur shots, but I'm still having two problems with my game. One recent, one a bit more long-standing.

First off, this:

bs3qd00.jpg

wnqIlIS.jpg

XtYvVFs.jpg

It's hard to explain, but I can pretty much see the point where close-by details are being rendered. It's like there's a circle surrounding me, and everything beyond that circle changes ever so slightly. It's most noticable with shadows and in snow, as you can see in those shots, but it happens with pretty much everything. I'll be running through Solitude and have this line running over everything that comes within the radius around me. I never experienced this with the 360 version, though Dragonborn had similar issues on that platform. It's probably something I need to change in my .ini files, but I'm not sure.

And secondly, and this is a more recent issue, this:

i6m3vvb.jpg

This only popped up today. First I noticed it while talking to Beirand the smith in Solitude. A mountain behind him disappeared when I looked at it from a certain angle. Then I noticed it on another mountain over the town. When I entered the Winking Skeever and sat down, this happened. When I turn my view slighly, everything goes back to normal. Probably a mod issue, but I'm not really sure what could be causing it.

Don't put your images in quotes btw, it just makes whatever you're trying to show hard to see. They will be automatically sized to fit the post width.

Hey, those that don't like most ENBs because they look too blurry, or it differs too much from vanilla. I've uploaded the ENB I use which I have edited quite heavily(all variables inside enbeseries.ini changed). And the d3d9.dll I use isn't available anymore on the site.

I think it look quite natural, Skyrim still looks like a cold place, colours arent't from Trine and performance is pretty smooth too. Though I don't use AO or DOF.

Here's the link.

Cool I'll check it out! Yea I love Phinix ENB. It's very close to the vanilla look and skyrim still feels cold like you said. Here's some more shots of it.

I'll check it out. Thanks!

Skyrim suddenly started freezing during loads, and it was driving me crazy. For some reason the fact that my PC audio was at 48000hz (or whatever) was, for the first time, giving the game grief. That, or the settings changed when I wasn't looking.

Anyway, I fixed it.

Also, holy shit DarkDeus, dat grass.

I'm actually pretty happy with how my game looks now. All I need to do is find a way to fix those random CTD's without any warning or error whatsoever. They're annoying.

You haven't messed with ugrids, have you?

Turned them up to 7, could that be causing it? Otherwise I'll dial them back down using that guide I found. I'm all for distant terrain, but not if it causes my game to go "LOLNOPE" every half hour.

Speaking of .ini's, went back to the basic ones. The only alteration I currently have are the aforementioned ugrids.

I remember my game becoming a lot more stable when I changed the ugrids back to the default value. So that could be causing the crashes for you too. But I also only have like 20 mods installed.

Edit. yeah, you have to start a new game if your going to lower the ugrids value.

If you revert ini changes it can mess up save games that were saved with the old ini files.

lol I know

Darkdeus do you have any other grass mods or grass draw distance tweaks?

I'm using some LOD mods but that's it. Ugrids to load is still set to the default of 5.
Here's the LOD mods I'm using:

Skyrim Distant Detail : http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/12866/?
High Quality Lods: http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/4834/?
SkyFalls and Skymills: http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/40564/?
Improved Lod Trees: http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/6245/?
Enhanced Distant Terrain 2: http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/39394/?

Not neccesarily, I've found a fix for that.

Worked, too. Let's hope my game is more stable now.

After having played over an hour, I haven't had the game crash on me once. I think turning the ugrids down really fixed most of it.

Uh, okay. Just figured out what's causing my dungeons/nights to be so dark. Apparently it has something to do with fire, or at least the Fire Breath shout. Everything looked fine before I used it, and once I did and the darkness came creeping back, I couldn't see shit anymore.

No idea what's causing this. The SkyFalls mod had some issues with fire particles, maybe that's the problem.

EDIT: Getting rid of it didn't do anything... Fuck, this is weird. Going to fullscreen fixed the problem at first, but then it didn't, and now everything is just dark as-is, but gets even darker when I use that shout. It's just way too fucking dark for me to enjoy it, but the overworld looks fine during the daytime. Didn't install any lighting-altering mods, either, except for ELFX and CoT, which I've had since the beginning.

Might have something to do with the eye adaptation for the fire breath shout.

EDIT: God-fucking-dammit. Haven't touched anything. Load up my game this morning, and I get horrible stuttering and the shadows have reverted to their old crappy selves. Vsync is supposed to still be on. The game keeps overwriting my SkyrimPrefs.ini file now. Fuck this.

Jumping back in after a long time off. Gonna try and do a fresh install and hit up GEMs and start clean.

Question: When I took a break back in February, there weren't really any mods with Hearthfire dependencies that made it worth it to buy Hearthfire. Are there any now?

Figured I'd upgrade "W.A.T.E.R." to "Realistic Water Two", and reinstall CoT with some lighting fixes in the process, and now the game crashes when it reaches the menu. Terrific. :lol

And I fixed it. Turns out RND still had a "W.A.T.E.R."-compatibility patch installed.

Now I've noticed this issue, not sure what's causing it. Probably one of my LOD mods.

The seam in the water? Make sure your water mod is loaded after any other mods which may alter the worldspace.

It is. I asked the mod author, and apparently it's something he can't fix right now. His mod alters the type of water in that pond, but there's only one type of LOD water, so it'll get that jarring transition.

Luckily, it only happens in a select few locations, that pond at Nightgate Inn being one of them.
