Sony Gamescom Press Conference Thread: Let Us Dream

This was disappointing. More than 50% of the time was dedicated to PS3 and Vita, and the lion's share of PS4 content was made up of indie stuff, and slightly higher budget indie stuff. And let's not forget the camera director constantly cutting away from direct feed trailers with a super zoomed out shot of the screen. What the hell?

In fairness, it's Gamescom, look at previous Gamescom announcements. You're not going to get E3/VGA style megatons at Gamescom. What did MS announce? Peggle 2 and a Kinect fighting game? What did Nintendo announce (?).

I thought it was pretty obvious that the camera kept cutting to the crowd so that people wouldnt rip full trailers from the feed. I assume they will release their own HD ones soon enough.

Ya it was annoying, but whatever is whatever.

I'm honestly confounded by the responses of

"I'm cancelling my preorder"

"MS gets it Sony doesn't"

there was NOTHING shown today that should make anyone have a change of heart like that. We know what both consoles are and we have seen their launch lineups AND things coming later, yet people are acting like they were expecting a ton of announcements.

there is a sentiment from someone in the last few pages "They could have shown more of the Order and others, etc, instead of this indie bullshit"

Again, if that is what it would take for you to keep your preorder... to see some more of a game that we already know is coming, then I'm calling bullshit.

Confirmation that streaming will work for most titles is a HUGE announcement, and so is twitch at the system level.

Having a "meh" response seems reasonable. Being excited about some of the features and new titles they showed seems reasonable...

but taking your ball and going home because of what was shown today just doesn't make any sense at all to me.

I did see those games. The fact I can't tell the difference between them and the indie games means I'm going to disregard them just the same. Shadow of the Beast wasn't gameplay so I don't care. I barely consider these ps4 games right now.

I guess that would have made ICO and Indie game in your eyes eh?

That cameraman (or director in charge) must have been high.

Most interesting game shown:

Dissapointed, all it needed was one big triple A exclusive for PS4 to save the conference. Also the lack of new big first party Vita game is also a dissapointment. I'm not expecting anything or getting hyped for TGS which is in a month, as that show hasn't had anything substantial in along time. Looks like Sony held their cards for VGA and next E3.

I enjoyed the conference. Sure it wasn't packed with AAA game announcements but it did show me one thing very clearly. Sony is pushing this PS4 as a definitive game machine that can do some other stuff.

First and third parties will absolutely make AAA games for the thing so I didn't really need Sony telling me that. I like the attention that was given to make everyone aware that this Playstation will be a machine that is rich with gaming diversity. If you want AAA's you'll get AAA's. If you want varied gaming experiences from smaller teams Sony is making it easy for you to get those experiences also.

I like games. I buy consoles for games and Sony showed me that I'm getting what I want out of the system. They gave me the most diverse launch lineup for a Playstation system to date. One thing's for sure won't be able to say the PS4 haz no gamez.

Holy shit that show was so bad omfg. I hate indie developers. Who cares about your wretched game you no-name hipster? Why exactly are you on the main stage instead of real big budget titles? I'm thinking that Microsoft giving the finger to indie developers was the best decision they could have ever done. You can't let these people get too much freedom. I'm cancelling my PS4 pre-order due to this conference and will be thinking of going either Xbox One for TitanFall or just going straight up PC gaming.

Haha! Dude this is hilarious. Thanks for the laugh, I wuv you.

This is one of the worst thing's I've ever read on any forum period.

Forgot to mention the vita, At £169 with 10 games and an 8gb, It has amazing value, and is worthy of my money at this price.

As far as home consoles go I just cant decide both are even to me.

I think I might just make a low/mid Graphics card upgrade and rock with the PS3 for another year. The decision is to hard for me at the moment.

Eh, no real surprises and I wasn't honestly expecting anything big from Sony in terms of AAA announcements. Perhaps a bit too much focus on indies,

I just don't understand this. If a game is good and entertaining, what does it matter who or what the size of the development team?

I enjoyed it. I just wish we had seen something new from the top tier studios (SSM, Polyphony, ND, MM, ect).

Definitely interested in Rime, War Thunder, KZ:SF, AC4, and Shadow of the Beast. A little too much emphasis on indie game development support. Planet Side 2 running on the PS4 would have been spectacular.

MS had a better day with no conference. I know the press loves indie games but those games don't move consoles. Sony's been living off of ms mistakes since e3. Time to step their game up.

Pretty disappointing conference. Cerny is up there talking about how the PS4 is the most powerful console ever, how it is 10x better than the last generation, etc etc and then they proceed to show me a bunch of 2D indie titles that would have no problem existing on last generation hardware. Show me real reasons to buy your new, powerful hardware.

No interest in indie titles so this conference was extremely boring to me.

Twitch (thought it was exclusive to Xbox One), Rime and Resogun were my personal highlights.

November 29 is so far away :(

I didn't HATE the conference but I was tuned in for more than they showed. My fault (and a few on the internet who hyped it) for assuming it was going to be better. As it was it was cool. I wish the release date was in October, but hell I wish the release date was in August so that's not saying much.

I didn't like the MS jab because he didn't deliver it like the cold-blooded diss that it was. Perfect opportunity to go in and he's just saying it like he's awkwardly trying to order a fish plate from a corner store. Damn, say it with your chest lil nigga!

I'm guessing the camera/editing crew, and their backups, all came down with food poisoning just before the conference?

Terrible conference but I don't see how anyone who was gonna get the PS4 before decides not to now.

Sony should be thanking whoever they pray to every night that MS fucked up so bad and have an even less interesting launch lineup than they do. Otherwise this showing today probably would have led to quite a few preorder changes in MS' favor.

There is going to be absolutely no shortage of AAA. In one month people will have access to Killzone, BF4, CoD, AC4, Madden, FIFA, Watch_Dogs, ETC.

Do you guys who love AAA games really want more? Do we need more shooters than that? Is a next gen BF4 and Call of Duty really not enough? Should sony have showed off that all their studios were working on brown shooters?

The conference was amazing because it wasn't just indie or AAA. It was an absolute variety of games. If all you care about is AAA you are already all set. How many shooters can you buy in one launch?

You people are failing to remember we still have TGS in one month. Sony has their final conference then, while Microsoft has no other press conferences till launch.

Sony still has things to show.

Sony you know I love ya and everything but what the hell were you thinking with that camera? Cutting out of direct feed every minute to show us what? That the audience is exactly the same as they were before!?

Other than that, some cool announcements. Vita pricedrop is great. Lots of indies. And Rime looked amazing. Still confused about Vita compatibility though, with one guy saying it works with all PS4 games and once saying it works with almost all.

Wish they would have dropped a "one last trailer" bomb, other than that, nice conference, not too excited, just sorta keeping the status quo....RIME though looks fucking fantastic though and easily one of/ my most anticipated game

It's been explained before. It's "almost all" because games that require the camera, or any other peripheral that may come out in the future, won't work (well Im sure they will stream but you wont be able to control them).

Every game that can be played with a dual shock will be remote play enabled.

Edit: For instance, you won't be able to play Just Dance through remote play.

Mort, I hear you loud and clear but 'amazing'? I understand your feeling and I agree but...amazing? Opinions and all but I'd put it at 'good'. Which isn't bad at all for the guy that was already winning.

Sony announced ton of games to be honest. people who are complaining are waiting for ND and SSM big titles which we know are coming.

Great show.

PSV+ PS3 price cuts
Twitch support
PS4 user interface
Rime
Shadow of the beast
War Thunder
PS4 release date

and more tons of other games

I wouldn't hold my breath for anything amazing from Sony at TGS either but an update on Last Guardian or some such would be nice. Interested more in what third party Japanese devs have been up to.

You're making several mistakes here. Assuming people are asking for shooters and assuming they're asking for them at launch. No one expected launch games to be announced now we're asking for Sony to give us a peek at the still-pretty empty 2014 window.

Oh no I'm not falling for that again and getting hyped for another Sony show. More importantly I'm not getting hyped for a japanese event when most of that industry has gone mobile/handheld.

So much emphasis on indie! So much! E3 and now Gamescom spent wooing the indie crowd. At first I thought it was cool but now I'm getting sick of it, that's not why I purchase new systems. I know Sony is holding so much back with firsty party content, how about you throw us another goddamn bone after The Order. Ugh! The conference was such a big ol bag of meh.

Second Son trailer and Rime were the only highlights for me.

I thought the conference was pretty bad although that feeling was greatly exacerbated by the fucking awful camera direction for the entire thing.

"An interesting bit! I better zoom out and show the crowd!!!!"

Rime looks amazing and I thought Renogun(sp?) looked great too. I was extremely excited when I saw Shadow of the Beast appear on the screen but the footage was actually quite dull. There was a nice selection of indie announcements but hardly any of them were exclusive so I'll be buying them on PC. Vita remote play also looks like it works as advertised but beyond that I have little interest in owning one.

For new thread, only, only because it was SotB and I couldn't get any other thread to load:

SHADOW OF THE FUCKING BEAST.

The End.

I had goosebumps, and took a pic to prove it. Actually, looks nasty so I won't upload it. But I did, and I did.

Psygnosis and Roger Dean FTMFW. I played the original before allaya (well, maybe most of ya). Got my prerelease copy at World of Amiga '87.

Shadow of the Mother Fucking Beast. Nice.

Edit: Fuck it, here. Before and 1 minute after goosebumps.

Before any wisecracks, that's my arm.

I just don't understand this. If a game is good and entertaining, what does it matter who or what the size of the development team?

quality over quantity, and I think ppl are getting a little da ja vu of the 8 bit era where some consoles would have loads of games, more than the competition but the Moriarty those games were bad.

Its great for people who want these indie titles, but its a disappointment for people who want more evolved and richer experiences, to them these indie titles seem like old unnecessary clutter that they dont care for.like of how they majority of GAF thinks of motion controls.

---edit

As of now the X1 has more of these richer and evolved experiences, so its understandable how a gamer wanting these type of experiences would be disappointed with sony's latest showcase of content.

Outside of Killzone, aren't all those AAA games you mention multiplat? How is it a next gen BF4 or CoD, if they are also on current gen systems? Just because they are 1080p or have better lighting or something? You can already get all that on your PC. In fact, I'm pretty sure most of those games you mentioned I can indeed get on a PC. Sony needs more AAA exclusives on the PS4.

Respect! I love real passion.

Thought it was a really good conference. PS3 price drop, Vita price drop, PS4 release date (although wish it was two weeks earlier for EU!). Tones and tones of new game announcements and a next-gen upgrade scheme.

What were people wanting, the same E3 announcements shown again? Save for a few surprises at the VGAs, all the big publishers have blown their load for the year.

I don't see why this conference would cause anyone to cancel their PS4 pre-order unless they never planned on getting it in the first place. All the big AAA games are still coming.

[E] Although saying that, yeah, the actual presentation had issues.

I just don't understand this. If a game is good and entertaining, what does it matter who or what the size of the development team?

Because no one is buying a PS4 to play little indie games they can already play on PS3, Vita or mobile. They should have focused more on AAA stuff as well as Indie.

Overall conference was pretty meh but atleast we got a date.

This was how you do a conference IMO. Just like...actual live UI demo, game after game after game, great announcements, and like 1:30 in length. Scee mauls scea every year.

@ famousmortimer : You were 100% right!
Loved your initiative concerning the DRM issue, and have been enjoying your posts for a while. Way to go, comrade!

Oh yes, concerning the conf, I thought it was alright. Quite boring in its format, and longer than it should have been, but there were many announcements of interest, and I look forward to Rime, Helldivers and Shadow of the Beast, among other things...
