Games you remember, names you don't

There used to be a game on the SNES, me and my dad played back when I was probably 5 or 6 years old. It looked and played very similar to Jackal (that was on NES).

It was a 2 player game, top down, vertical scrolling run n' game styled shooter, and you played as a tank & a helicopter. I remember boss fights too.

I've been wanting to know the game's name for about 18 years now :/ I think we only rented it once as I still have all the original SNES games I owned back then.

Any ideas would be awesome.

I've always wondered about this series... are any of the later games worth picking up? I loved what I played of the first game, but there were so many sequels, I gave up on deciding which one to grab and try.

I have no idea xD I've very rarely ever played any of the games that I guess in this thread, I'm just good at googling things and researching things =P

I don't remember if it was a one-off thing, but there was at least one issue of Official Playstation Magazine (PS2-era) that had a secret demo that you accessed by highlighting a menu element that didn't look like a menu element (I think the demo discs had, essentially, funky set-pieces every month; this one might've been the underwater motif).

It was a demo of a Japanese title. It was 2.5D, and starred some sort of superhero who wielded a double blade (think Darth Maul's weapon). The levels were littered with grapple locations that looked like Plinko pins, and the player could grapple to each one to move around.

HOLY SHIT. I think this is it! Oh man, I'm going to have to watch a bit more footage, seems it was called Super SWIV as well, which is a name I recognize more, but the box art definitely looks familiar.

Thanks man!

Edit: Definitely it! :D

Seems it was a bit of an underrated gem too! I am going to nostalgia it up tonight after work! Cheers!

When I was a kid, I played a game a lot on the Tandy 64. You were in control of a mario like character in a cave.

you had to climb out of the cave while avoiding bats and drops of water.

Any idea what this game was?

A very random guess is Super Pitfall. Looks like it came out on a Tandy but I don't know anything about that platform so there's probably multiple different versions of the Tandy or something.

I tried so hard to figure out what this game was but could never find out. It was an old pc game probably mid 90s ish and all I remember about it is (and my memory is really fuzzy or I could be remembering some parts wrong) you play as I think robots? It was maybe a strategy game and you play on like a grid and I remember part of the gameplay involved going around like screwing in screws or something on this grid. I think there were other Ai robots on the grid too..? I think maybe they were unscrewing your screw or something? Damn I wish I could remember more about it but I was young.

That would be amazing if someone can figure it out form that vauge description. Also I am pretty sure it was 3d
edit: I found someone else in the thread mentioning a similar game which turned out to be "Gubble" I thought it was what I was thinking (fromfree description) but I don't recognize the gameplay at all

I posted a few pages back but still haven't found what I'm looking for. Does anyone know where the sound at the very beginning of this video comes from? It might not actually be from a video game. I contacted the creator of the video, but haven't heard back (didn't really expect to. He probably gets a lot of messages).
I think it is from the title screen of Virtue's Last Reward.
That's it! The video came out almost a year before VLR though so now I'm even more confused. Maybe it was in 999 too. Thanks though!
This is so weird. I was just listening to some Sin and Punishment 2 music and this sound came up. I guess it's just some sample. Some serious Baader-Meinhof phenomena though.

she found it. Ganbare Goemon ... 3 i think

There was an old snes or nes game that was simultaneous Co op. It was a 2 player side scroller in Japanese. This is for my sister in law. It involved characters you gain as you progress through the game. There's also something to do with a panda being thrown at bad guys. Most likely early 90s. Something about the panda throwing bamboo leaves. And the boy and girl throwing something like cards. It's an adventure game. There was one level with a woman with a lot of cats. ... please help. Thank you.

Maybe Pocky & Rocky 1 or 2 for SNES.

Alright I have a really vague one. I played it on a store demo back in the SNES days, but I am not sure if it was an SNES or some other system.

It was a side scroller, I think the level I played you were on the tree tops. You may have been a caveman and you beat things up with your head. You also I think, gripped things with your teeth. It is not Tomba. That is about all I remember, but I always wished I knew what game that was. Any ideas?

I've been looking for this game for so long with no luck. It was:

1- on the NES

2- Side Scrolling shooter

3- One of the levels featured a volcanic cave with huge periodic flames forming half a circle constantly through the level, to avoid it you need to position yourself correctly inside the circle. ( I think this level is toward the end of the game)

Please help me remember the name of this game. Thanks in advance.

There's a game I remember playing on NES from when I was really young. I can't remember much about it other than the fact that it scrolls vertically, and you walk north through the levels. The cartridge had a silver end label, and I seem to remember the end label having a pretty long title.

I don't even remember if the game was good or not I just remember playing it when I was a wee young lad and would like to figure out what game it was. Help me GAF!

?

That's Life Force, which was the NES port of the arcade Salamander, which was in turn the sequel to Gradius. Phew.

A game made by Konami for PS1.

It was an action adventure involving shooting and killing giant insects. I remember it was third person shooter.

I just can't seem to find this game ever.

Gradius III? Maybe?

EDIT: Ah, nevermind, I forgot you said NES, not SNES.

Might of been mentioned before.

Was a Gamecube game. The main character had something that looked like a Swiss armory knife on his back and when he punched, a giant fist popped out and hit your enemies.

You played as 'Spawn' and had to fight enemies with a somewhat angular birds eye camera if I remember correctly.

It was for the dreamcast. I don't think it's called just 'Spawn', I'm sure it called something else.

A side scroller for the commodore 64 that had a witch as a enemy. Or many the player was the witch? :/

Is only of the oldest gaming memories I got and it would be cool if I could put a name to that game.

1) it was on PS1
2) it was one of those top-down vertical shooter type arcade games
3) you fly old WWII era planes
4) epic giant tank, blimps, robot bosses

Man, I've never beat it as a child.

A game I have been trying to remember for a while.

1. Arcade fighting game -maybe japanese

2. One character was south american with a giant stone fist tied to his arm.

3. The credits screen had a bunch of pink cherry blossoms floating in it.

If you guys can figure it out I would appreciate it.

Samurai Showdown?

This computer game where it was pretty old school polygon graphics and you drove around in a tank trying to get to Arcturus.

A DS RPG.

All I remember about it is the boxart had a massive red dragon on it that spanned both screens with the player party on the bottom one.

who knows.

Cauldron ?

Cauldron_Cottage_Hover_Ani.gif

Caudron II ? (platform game, though, but i can see how one would think the witch was the enemy)

There was this Dreamcast game that played like an Adventure/RPG but you were on a submarine, first person viewpoint. It was awesome as hell.

Hmmm I guess it's either Stellar 7, Arcticfox or Nova 9.. Lots of infos & screenshots here.

Stellar 7

Stellar 7... Do you know how long I have been looking for this game? It has been stuck in my head for years! I remember arguing with someone one Sid Meier mid this game because I thought it was Firaxis. Nope, it was Dynamix!

Trying to remember a game I bought for the PS2 way back when from Best Buy

It was a B-tier JRPG from what I remember and everything was blue....well the setting of the place was very blue

Two different demo's for PS1, one where you control a ninja dude in the jungle from a top down view, throwing ninja stars and slizing dudes with your sword. The other you control a cannon ship, evading obstacles, shinking pirate ships and with your boardside cannons, and navigating confined chanals.
